Manny -- I just discovered you. You explain photography so easily and with ease! Your vibe is so chill (I get a NY vibe, idk why... might be your accent). You're not yelling at us, you're not doing any crazy (and annoying) music and effects, and you're also speaking to us while showing us the behind the scene. But what you're also doing is you're educating us. I'm in the process of building my portfolio. I don't have all the gears I need (so I rent). But you make photography so easy and simple.
Thank you so much for making these videos! Please keep doing them!

I used to own this lens not once but twice, and you are 100% right! I did a shoot of a very hot woman in NYC and not one person was paying any attention to her while everyone was watching me. Then out of nowhere two undercover cops approached me and asked me very nicely what I was taking photos of even though the model was clearly present. The lens threw them off because of the size. I got some of my best shots with it but I feel the Sigma 135mm f1.8 was on the same level as far as portrait shots are concerned. The 200 was good shooting the model in a crowd because due to the bokeh the model would stand out clearly even with all the people around her. Eventually, because of the size and weight I stopped taking it out of the house and eventually sold it. Till this day I still miss the Canon 200mm f2.0 but I can’t find it anywhere brand new. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat…….and then I recently found a Nikon 200mm f2.0 VR II in 9+ condition at B&H photo so I bought it immediately 😊😊😊

Manny has such a strong presence on the internet. Not only is he constantly working with models, but he posts what he does generously and sets an incredibly high bar for other photogs. He creates such beauty for his subjects that women must be clamoring for him to shoot their portraits. I agree with him that super-reaching lenses in general create a dramatic intensity, regardless if you've spent thousands or hundreds on the zoom lens. I also agree that it is difficult as heck for the photographer because the subject is so far away!

  • @dance2jam

Thanks for making this series of videos Manny including the 200mm f2 in the 3 of them I've seen. First, really enjoy your videos and explanations. Second, it is fun to watch these videos after I've owned the Nikon 200mm f2 for several months (purchased used of course). Now, I'm a relatively new photographer - and do mostly wildlife, sports, and action (dance). Most professional sports photographers (some very well known names) told me they use a series of zooms - and I get it. Flexibility to get "the shot" when your reputation depends on it. I purchased the lens because I had heard about it talked about for a few years - but nothing specific and liked the images I saw in forums with it. So I broke down, bought it used, and OMG. Now, after about 5 months - and shooting it a lot, the words coming out of my mouth to photographer friends were exactly the words you issue in this video. "Something about this lens", "The look is unique to anything I shoot or have seen others shoot", "It will set you apart", "It will set you back", "You'll attract unwanted attention", "It's heavy as #*$)". All that said, and there is something, when you have the space to operate in, that creates a combination of just enough DOF, smooth bokeh, and sense of dimensionality - that the moment you see the images - they speak to you like no other image from other lenses I've shot. The 24-70mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 zooms may be better for Ice Hockey when you need (as usual) the flexibility of a zoom. That said, all the players see my shots with the 200mm f2 and want copies. I was waiting on the Nikkor Z 135mm f1.8 - but purchased this instead - and after watching your other comparison video with the Sony 135mm f1.8 and hearing your comments, I'm just glad I made the purchase of this used bad boy. Heavy yes. Ergonomically balanced - no. Still expensive - yes. But if you appreciate the look this puppy brings you, the rest is gravy.

I've got the 200mm f/2, and it's a razor that creams backgrounds. On an APSC sensor you need even more working distance though. It's lighter, faster, probably sharper, but also $6K with a TC. It compresses space so much that people become flat cutouts in front of the background though. An interesting look, but not the most flattering for beauty shots, IMO. Senior pics, absolutely.
