Aperture is like a representation for the human body. Its the perfect mess. Its technonogy is the best there is, but its so badly managed that its a miracle its still working.
It would've been also funny if there was a line like "Please approach the platform now. There is only a 52.8519% chance of it not supporting your weight and making you fall down into the bottomless pit" Perhaps such a line is there but we didn't hear it... But if not should it be one. Would fit Portal's humor pretty well imo.

When it's Valve and it's about cutting edge technology (or basically any technology) it has to be Aperature Science I guess... But at least it's not a bad choice: the cleanness of the lab environment means that performance is less of an issue since you can get away with less detailed objects.

The reason i love VR so much is, in a normal game you'd just walk forward through the door. In VR it's easy to just watch the walls and take the sights in. And not miss the dialogue meant for people who stand around. It's like stopping to listen the birds and watch the trees in real life. Feels like peace. With something new to see and being free to stop anywhere. Not worrying about blocking the road. Even better if you can pick up a random object and turn it around looking at it.
