Japanese asking too personal questions: Right. One reason is they think Americans are “direct” and for them that means anything goes. @@djgroopz4952 America really hasn't. I mean, if I've missed something let me know. The one thing that has spoken for me is my American passport. Otherwise, the American media has portrayed us as lazy and uneducated people that come from the ghetto. They've portrayed us as the black sheep of America. What the world seems to only believe about blacks in the diaspora is that we ate naturally strong. Because of America's portray of AA we get offered less money abroad in comparison to whites. Here's one example of many. Hi was living in China and saw an ad for a job. It specifically said 11,000 for AA and 20,000 for a white. They were not even ashamed of the obvious discrimination. I do want to ask though... What makes you say that American media portrays us in a good light or better than other countries?
Amazon is based in Japan too, so many hair products and other products can be ordered from there just like other countries that have Amazon in Europe etc. You can even just go to Amazon's international shopping site too and order. That's what I do.
You get it! There is no sense in getting angry, because it doesn't solve anything. Back in the late 90s, I worked in Shenzhen, China and in Singapore. I got a lot of stares as well. It didn't take long at all to get over it.
The dating part is interesting because I was approached by several Japanese men and asked out on dates. I was actually surprised they were so forward considering their reputation for being so laid back and reserved. One guy even asked me to go out to do dinner with him right then and there (a cute little restaurant near the train stop). He had just gotten off the train and was headed home from work. He stopped me and told me I was so beautiful and asked if I would join him for dinner. I was taken aback because it was so unexpected and unusual for any man, especially a Japanese man, to ask for an immediate date on the spot lol. I'm used to guys asking for your phone number, chatting a while, then going out. But I said no because I was not interested in the men there and was only visiting for a few days (Tokyo) anyway. Btw, I am African American.
I love to visit other countries but I don’t know if I would like to live in places where I don’t see a lot Black Americans. I love my people and would hate to have their presence missing.

You are so blessed to have family there; my gratefulness to your brother and others who guide you well. Truly appreciate your video. Arigato.
Drug laws are VERY strict in Japan - including on prescription drugs. There's a government organization you can contact to find out if your medicine is legal or to get permits to possess in Japan. Also, you should learn hiragana/katakana at the same time, since they're the same thing, but used in different situations and once those are locked down, work on (reading) kanji

While living in America blacks are African American, however when they leave, they have to remove the African part because no one seems to believe the American part. I learned this many years ago. Your story it's wonderful and uplifting. Keep doing you.
Love this channel
I see what she means about her voice, it's really nice and soft
I enjoyed your story, alot! It was real and your feelings are relatable. Best wishes!
Interesting video of Sasha's experience. I definitely believe in exploring different places. Btw, beautiful voice!
Thanks for singing because I was waiting to hear what your voice sound like too. Good job. Do you ever plan on learning to speak the native language? How much longer do you plan on staying in Japan?
beautiful voice Sasha..continue to blossom and open up and your success will soar!!!
Beautiful story!! I wish Sasha the best success in all she does! Good for you for working towards your goals and living your dream!
You go Sasha!! Nice interview!
😍😍😍 her voice!!! Thank you Queen
She had such a beautiful voice 😊
It's truly a shame that a woman can't be brown and talk about her experiences in a foreign country without the rainbow of racists turning up. The world is truly insane.
When I first came to Tokyo 4/5 years ago, I rarely saw other brother and sisters. So it's great to have this series and see black people emerging and thriving here! It'd be cool to be on this series one day :)
Great interview, thanks Sasha. I too lived and worked in Japan as a Black woman. Overall, it was a great experience. I would definitely go back.
How to respond to anyone who asks too many personal questions: In this matter regarding me, you need not concern yourself.
Wow!! Sasha sensei, YOU HAVE AN AWESOME voice!!! Thanks for sharing your story!!!
Very insightful and lovely voice!
I would like to meet Sasha. She is very interesting and I like her disposition and the fact that she lives in the countryside. I would like to learn more about your music skills. :) I enjoy TBEJ
2020 Crabtree Hey, check the video description for her Instagram handle. You can reach out to her there.

BEJ: you rock in chopstick land. Great job and presentation too. Cheers!
I'm detecting an island ting going on there in her accent.
I thought it was just me
Same here
@@Walmartgimp probably why she got upset about the "where you came from question?"... Jamaica by way of America..nothing to be ashamed of.
When she said she was from America I thought I heard wrong. I hear a little British twang when she speaks. I was leaning towards London.
She may be picking up on different accents living abroad
Thanks for your encouragement and sharing your experience.
Gorgeous voice! I'm in Korea at the moment. Should pop on over to Japan before heading back to the States
Beautiful voice!!! More please!
I lived in Sasebo from 01-04. Loved it!
i remember a Japanese student in France who told me "you're not French, you're American" and I did not get why she said that. I understand now that because I am a tall guy who wears big silly tee shirts and in her mind it was how an American guy would be
yyyaaaaayy great job!!!
This is the content I signed up for as a fellow black woman in Japan 😍
Hi Sasha, my fellow Philadelphian. You made the right decision. Philadelphia has gone to the dogs. Love travelling and hoping to go back to Egypt, but to stay
I think most people mistakenly get their idea of what an American looks like from Hollywood. Couldn't be farthest from the truth.
Not just from Hollywood but also from reading materials (books, pamphlets & essays), oral communication & executive actions (laws & policies) perpetuated by groups of people who are biased or racists . Keep in mind before Hollywood was created the propaganda was already being spread throughout the globe
@@JMac7395 true.
Go Sasha!
I was stationed in Okinawa while in the Marines…my experiences were different. My step mother taught English in Korea… I hear about teaching English in Asia most of all. Love that you get more opportunities to sing.🎶
Great interview, Thanks my sister.
Oh her voice is so cute 🖤
Thanks! Your videos mean a lot to me. The American media has portrayed blacks in such a bad way that it's good blacks are abroad telling the truth about us. I'm black and have been living abroad for 10 yrs from Europe to Asia. I am now living in UAE 6 yrs now. My cousin has been in Japan over 30 yrs. I've subscribed.
I don't actually think there is a country that has showcased Black people better than the USA.
Awesome videos my guy 👌🏼🤠
She has a lovely smile
Great interview, great honest observations, advice. You sound like Andra Day, and I love Andra!!
I am glad to see that you are very thoughtful ❤️ I was hoping to hear your singing voice... Love your video.
She has amazing voice!
she seems awesome! so sweet and genuine
Wow. Thank You For The Share! 😁
It would be interesting to hear how her character shines through in the beats that she makes...
Ellise she shines just fine here.
@@PHlophe ...
Basically I'd be interested in hearing her beats if that wasn't clear in my initial comment...
Tear it up in Japan, Sasha...
Great Interview. Thanks for being so honest and real. Your voice is like Whoaaa🔥🔥❤️
Omg she is soooo precious and sweet! I hope you blow up sis and become successful!~~~
Amazon is based in Japan too, so many hair products and other products can be ordered from there just like other countries that have Amazon in Europe etc. You can even just go to Amazon's international shopping site too and order. That's what I do.
Awe what a treat👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
You get it! There is no sense in getting angry, because it doesn't solve anything. Back in the late 90s, I worked in Shenzhen, China and in Singapore. I got a lot of stares as well. It didn't take long at all to get over it.
She’s so sweet and is super likeable with a beautiful voice.😍
Keep being great Sasha
Please!! Let her sing a whole song next time brova. Her vocal style is🔥
Thank you for sharing your experiences.
4:25 The story about the little girl 👧 was very eye-opening about how Japanese profile foreigners. A white person...
I love to visit other countries but I don’t know if I would like to live in places where I don’t see a lot Black Americans. I love my people and would hate to have their presence missing.
Ey
Street Struck Troll be gone. I hope you’re not black bc that type of psychology is bad for healthy lifestyle
freddy njagi Nothing about America is scary when it comes to the basics. Don’t let TV propaganda control your brain
freddy njagi News is propaganda which causes your brain to be use, thus, being controlled. See what I mean?
Gr8 interview
She sound really good... I’ll buy that album 👍🏾
Konnichi wa, Sasha. Some mediciine is illegal!? Whoa. Could you be more specific about doctors and medications? I'm writing this from bed. Heard plenty about hair, underwear, and stares. Semi-learning Japanese but need to kick it up. Would you recommend vocabulary/hiragana, katakana first or both at same time? You are so blessed to have family there; my gratefulness to your brother and others who guide you well. Truly appreciate your video. Arigato.
Drug laws are VERY strict in Japan - including on prescription drugs. There's a government organization you can contact to find out if your medicine is legal or to get permits to possess in Japan. Also, you should learn hiragana/katakana at the same time, since they're the same thing, but used in different situations and once those are locked down, work on (reading) kanji
Over the counter meds with Codeine are also illegal.
@@MajorG25 Holy Cow. Thanks for all the relevant info. Government organization--US or Japan? Well, Japan wouldn't help me much now, would it? Learning language on my own and what words I know I speak to the Latinos in my neighborhood. They take it very well; maybe she's from that village in Costa Rica. Thanks much for your info.
@@shaneikdennis3488 Well, that's my middle name as it is been prescribed as a major pain medication for several years. I'll just start with learning the language/writing/get to kanji. Arigato.
Uve gotten fresher my Guy. I can see the YT revenue are rolling in. 😁
Wish You Well
Thanks for the well wishes, but you’re thinking way too deep. It’s just a new intro with a more recent haircut. The previous one was from 2017.
The Black Experience Japan Undestood!
Sasha can saaaaaaaang!
May not sista find genuine love. Much success to her! Enjoyed the interview! Very motivating!
It's good to hear the experiences of Blacks who have moved to Japan to live. I've been to Japan on business several times and my experiences are skewed because of it. As an (Black) American businessman , I'm treated with the utmost respect and the same thing has happened in Taiwan, China, Singapore, etc. I don't think I could live in Japan because the people are too formal for my tastes.
Beautiful and with a beautiful voice.
Already happened to me but in Italy, that stranger would not accept that I was French because I'm black. The fact that he was already adult and I a teenager was the most disturbing.
Good interview, nice to hear from someplace other than Tokyo!
Wow, I'm from Philly too. Love your story.
We live in Chiang Mai, Thailand now. Check my family out @thescottsofchiangmai on IG
I liker her personality :) She seems like a very kind and warm person.
Very soulful voice!! All the best to u.
