There is no Cultural group called "half-white".
And anyone who seeks to identify as your half-white is essentially a nobody, is one lacking Cultural Identity.
Her Cultural Identity IS African; because African people of Jamaica, in general, aren't going to allow her to be a 'nobody', which ALL who identify as your 'half-white' is.

    • @nirbija

      "semantics"?
Do you understand what Culture and Cultural Identity are?
Culture is the set of BEHAVIORS that a group shares generation after generation, and with which the group is identifiable.
Your so-called 'bi-racial or half this or half that are different from your Cultural Identity.
We are dealing with two distinct and different things. So no; it's not semantics.
The woman is of mixed, which is about race/biology.
However, the woman in the video identifies as Black, culturally. (No point in trying to identify as white; she will not be allowed/accepted.)
She lives the dominant Black Culture in Jamaica. And while in Japan, she herself indicates that she is identifiable with other Black people from America and Caribbean.
She sure as hell does not identify with your so-called "white german"

"Here I don't get a color". When more people realize that they are not a color but instead a human being I think they will make bigger strides. The power of her words. I am so glad that I discovered this channel. I get a lot of inspiration from listening to these interviews. Keep them coming. Lee-Ann is so grounded in who she is, especially when she spoke about dating, celebrity, her talents and facing other challenges.

@@streetstruck8951 Not saying to diminish it at all. This channel is all about the black experience in Japan. It highlights so many and so much about black people setting up and living life in Japan. You are going to meet ignorance and racism no matter where you go and no matter what race or color you are. Even your own race will choose to judge you. But you cannot let that define you or you will be spinning tires and getting nowhere in life if you choose to take on the task of trying to challenge that. Just be aware of who you are and go forward with it.

A friend of mine from university started going to an English language school as a child (about 35-40 years ago...), and she initially had a white American teacher. She was so scared of this white teacher since she had never seen non-Asian foreigners, and in our culture (at least in the old days), being pale in Japan means you are not healthy. She thought her teacher was sick or something because the teacher was so pale. She said that she even started crying when she saw this white American teacher. Then, this teacher was gone and she had an African-American teacher, and she was happy that she now had a teacher who was not "pale". When I first heard this story from her, I thought it was a very interesting story.

Some foreigners misunderstand that Japanese who live in rural area and small city are very racist because the probability of encountering Black people/foreigners in local cities and countryside in Japan is very low compared to Tokyo and other big cities.
As a Japanese, I hope to reduce their stereotypes easily by allowing foreigners like her to share their experiences in Japan.

Japanese are what I refer to as Space Invadors.
while working as a street artist I. NYC i was at a location that was a popular tourist spot. i recall several times Japanese tour buses would drop people off at my location. while I was engaged in drawing someone's caricature.
I cant tell you how many times I was physically startled to find a Jaoanese person so incredibly close to me that if I made a sudden move I'd knock them over.

The “touching of our hair” section touched me. Perhaps because she comes from an island of color, this is a new experience for her. However, in the states, we get that at least once a month. I’m wondering if I would be more receptive of the invasion if I were actually in a more homogenous society. Here, it seems invasive, unless I personally know the person reaching for my head.

You can always find some remote jobs(Jobs that let you work from home.) So that you can have an income source while living here in Japan.

@@noir935 actually, that may not work. Without a company to sponsor you, you'll be subject to the travel visa rules. So you'll get 30-90 days before you have to leave (depending on what country you're from).
