January 11, 1977: the day Mark Hamill's career - and life - nearly ended. Though he'd bounce back to become one of Hollywood's most iconic actors, the impact of the incident went beyond just physical pain, leaving Mark scarred in more ways than one. But after years of dodging rumors and denying the truth, the Star Wars star has finally come clean about what really happened that day, and how the course of his career changed forever.

Subconsciously, I always knew something was different about Mark's face in Empire and Jedi. In A New Hope, his nose and features were much sharper. In Empire and Jedi, his nose was MUCH flatter, broader and his features much more rounded. I thought it was odd, for his face to change that much in just a few short years between ANH and ESB. I always chalked it up to him aging. But I'm so glad he was okay, that must have been hell to go through as a young actor. Love Mark Hamill!
Indeed, he has appeared as another person to me.
The reason Mark Hamill was not a high profile actor after the Empire strikes back, is because he had gotten married and he and his wife ware having children and he wanted to do roles where he could be home in the evening with his family. Animation roles allowed him to do that. Plus he didn’t want to be typecast. It had nothing to do with his face; his older brother is a psychologist and helped him get through the mental adjustments of seeing a different person in the mirror after the surgery. Personally, I never saw much of a difference.
it's because he lost his original attractiveness. Many actors get married.
@@benjos.2083 you completed ignored the comment and pulled some shit out your ass, thank you internet!
.....
Yeah I remember watching an interview when he was younger talking about the accident. And also talked about the rumors about how he had "crazy surgery that changed his look" when it wasn't that bad at all.
People are so dumb.
The moral of the story, SLOW THE FUCK DOWN WHEN DRIVING. Traffic laws exist for a reason.
Tar wars? 1:52
"TAR Wars"?!?!? LOL!!!!!!
These auto generated voice-overs are terrible
The fact they rebuilt his nose as good as they did in 1976 is pretty amazing. Also has to be traumatizing to be an actor and now your face looks completely different.
I think it affected his confidence quite a bit and is one of the biggest reasons why he got into voice acting in the years following the original Star Wars movies.
They must have forgived mark hammil for looking different in star wars when he voiced the joker
Finally it's admitted. the change on his outlines has drastically modified his original face.
I've never seen Mark talk in detail about the extent of his injuries, but they were clearly severe enough to require reconstructive surgery to his nose and upper lip.
There was no need for a body double because all the photography had already been done by the time Mark had his accident. In fact, less than a month after the accident, Lucas was screening an early cut of the film, missing most of the special effects, for Fox executives.
The hospital healed his face mark hamills girlfriend at the time marilou healed his spirit and gave him his confidence and courage back she’s the one who healed him in my opinion
And by the way, the proof is provided by the deleted scenes where Luke face was rebuilt by a droid. The only reason to have made those scenes was the necessity to justify the severe change on his face caused by both the accident and plastic surgery. The only one who told the truth was Carrie Fisher.
My opinion is that Luke died with that accident and Hamill acting career too, indeed he moved from authoritative outlines by a deep look to a "joker" face. I don't understand the reason Lukas, Mark and many others choose to hide the truth, but what I know is that was a choice so stupid since the reality was so apparent.
I never saw Tar Wars? Is it good?
TAR WARZ
Tar wars? Really Mr… 🤦♂️
I never really saw the difference. You have to look really hard. And who’s doing that. People who have had voluntary cosmetic surgery in Hollywood have more noticeable before and after photos than him. He was still a pretty boy after the accident. I actually think his pretty looks may have kept him from getting roles afterwards.
I think he lost a bunch of his young look with this accident
I think it made him even more attractive 🤷🏼♀️he got real lucky
Tar Wars? 🤦🏻♂️
I’m sorry… Did you say “tar wars”?
Tar Wars 😂
This is not true at all he didnt need plastic surgery.
AI videos. Vomit. Aren't even real videos.
He was hot. After the accident, he was ok.
What a shitty thing to say about someone who was almost killed
@@codzab084 this is how people think huh? It’s unbelievable.
@@codzab084 the truth hoits. He had a symmetrical face with a classic Roman nose. The accident messed up his hot SoCal visage. He was still handsome enough to be a leading man. Just not as extraordinary looking as he'd been before.
@@codzab084 it's not a moral debate, it is an aesthetics matter.
@@johndalton3180 I completely agree.
