Always love to hear one of GOD's greatest guitar talents playing. The LORD needed a guitar player to play beautiful Hymns before HIS Blessed Throne !!!
A beautiful thing to leave in this world. It's amazing; that you get to the end without realizing exactly how brilliant Pete Huttlinger is in this performance. It's a testament to how much control he had, to keep himself out of the way, where many others stumble into the path of the melody. God bless him for leaving such beautiful things for us to find.
With the world being in such turmoil this music by this great artist seems to be the the epitome of the calm we all need. Pete is our very special musician who will be sadly missed forever and ever.RIP gorgeous man.
Simply outstanding performance. Love the soft yet articulate fingerstyle playing with so much rounded, smooth transitions that add the emotional character to the Melody. This is such a simple song with a memorable or familiar structure of chords that without adding accents and Pete's own emphasis this song can be undeservingly lost and blah. Pete has left us his own unique sound etchings, wonderful little accents, flavoring, how he felt. He rounds selected melody line notes so softly together through chord changes without making one big bowl of mashed potatoes. Thank you for leaving your talents with us.
So blessed to have had opportunity of hearing him live at Winfield Bluegrass Festival for years and years!! one of my favorite tunes of his. Still miss him.
Lovely....so smooth and graceful. Pete makes everything look and sound so effortless, but as someone who has tried to learn some of the pieces he has so generously shared, they are devilishly difficult. RIP Pete, and thanks for the rich legacy.
The water is wide, I can't cross over, And neither have I wings to fly. Build me a boat That can carry two And both shall row, my love and I. There is a ship And she sails the sea. She's loaded deep, As deep can be. But not so deep As the love I'm in, I know not how I sink or swim. Oh love is handsome And love is fine, The sweetest flower When first it's new. But love grows old And waxes cold And fades away like Summer dew. Build me a boat That can carry two And both shall row, my love and I, And both shall row, my love and I.
I've listened to and played this song for almost 50 years. Your arrangement (with all due credit, of course, for James's assistance) is my favorite. Thanks, John
Pete was such a hero of mine. I found his music when I was 8, and was a major inspiration for me. I've been playing for almost 20 years now and I still come back to Pete's music all the time. Changed my life forever.
I could be mistaken, but is there a video of him doing "Stars ans Stripes Forever"? I swore I saw him doing it. Maybe it was at a workshop I attended. He seemed like a nice humble man, full of "Heart". I can "feel" his emotion coming out of his fingertips... Amazing player... 5 HEAVENLY STARS! --Van
I have seen and heard many versions of this tune from fingerstyle, classical and even electric players. I absolutely love this version by Pete though, along with Ken Nicol’s arrangement I would say it’s my favourite.
Happy Birthday Pete. Thanks for all he beautiful music.
The smile on his face at the very end says it all, that's why we play right? RIP Pete, thanks for making the world a much better place for all of us!
