If every player out there actually played for a solid 30 minutes per day and did it with purpose, there would be a whole lot more great players rolling around out there! Basically, most people don't practice. They just play other players. That AINT good enough.....Great video as always!
I've spent about a year away from the game due to many life events taking up my energy. Just got back into the game yesterday, this video could not have had better timing. I was able to almost clear a whole rack in straight pool, but I have definitely lost the touch. Time to get it back through these drills!
I do agree 100% ... If Straight Pool were shown/made available (to view)/played/promoted, it would create more interest .... and understanding (of the game)
That's a good point about using a Magic Rack. I'll have to start doing that. I've been logging my breaks (from your suggestion) and find that my success/failure is all over the place. I've determined that my real problem is that I'm a lousy racker. 🙂Thanks for another great video.
Great video! I've noticed that depending on the practice day, I can struggle on a specific drill. When that happens, would you recommend to keep working on that drill to get it done or switch to another drill and come back at it the next day? Thanks!
If you get frustrated, change things up. You dont want practice to be a pain in the ass. Got back to the drill another day or make it a little easier. Dont force it. Remember, drills are not test.
Thanks for watching! And thats for supporting the channel T. I hope you check out FXBTV our streaming channel. We are very proud of it. Thanks again for watching and leaving. your comments.
Excellent advice as always, B. I felt singled out when you talked about the guy who chases the 1 ball around, trying to make a hero shot when I should be taking ball in hand after the break. 😢 LOL J/K, I’m going to take your advice and try playing some straight pool. I play all the games, but not much straight pool because it’s so hard. That’s probably why I should play it, huh? I had some guys in a Facebook group tell me to play some straight pool to slow me down when I practice because I noticed by the time I’m done practicing, I’m shooting way too fast. I haven’t really followed it up, though, but hearing you recommend it makes it more legit.
Another banger - can’t have too many reminders about practice! Question- my friends and I only play 8 ball. To continue to get better at position play in 8 ball, should I still do straight pool or 8 ball against the ghost?
Thanks B! Appreciate you. I’m lucky enough to have a pool table and I’m back to getting reps in. I’m going to restructure my practice sessions to be - Acid test, Mighty X and then 9 ball. I’ve been pondering lessons too but don’t want to start lessons until I can truly commit to more time on a consistent basis. Curious. what % of your lessons are virtual vs in-person?
It really depends. But I do about 25-30 Zoom lessons each week. And 3 - 4 In person lessons during the week. Some weeks more, some less. I pretty much took off most of November because I am headed to Vegas and did not have much time. But will start up in person lessons in December.
Great video, but my nemesis and has been for the 45 years that I have been playing on and off, has always been with object balls frozen on the rails. Currently, I play 9 games of 8-ball every weekly with a friend of mine and I usually win 7 to 8 of them, but the only shots he is better than me at are those shots. I have used your drills for those shots, but I just haven't been able to be confident with those frozen rail shots. I'll keep practicing and trying.
👍 not playing City Pool League only have 9 team they won't do 2 Division only 10 or more team , only Club League that January after New Year , i need rewatch how hold cue noticing something about my good break then frustrated break
While practicing your draw is definitely important. Trying to practice the power draw when you're not going pro and you're just a casual player/recreational player wouldn't be the best thing since it's an emergency shot. There's definitely other more useful and important shots out there. For example it's good to practice your jump shot but that shot doesn't always happen. What should be practiced at first is definitely cueball path/position play, cueball control, follow shot, learn to use ball in hand, use natural roll properly and master it, cut shots, bank shots, safety shots, break shots, picking the right shots, normal draw shot, straight shots
The thing you’re missing about the long DrawShot is even though you may not take that shot often, if you have that shot, you have got a host lof other shots. You can shoot shots such as mid range straw shots with English. All derivatives of your ability to shoot a long DrawShot. That’s why we laugh at Dr. Peabody and his draw for show comment. If you can press 300 pounds you can press 200 pounds. And if you don’t have a long DrawShot, you don’t have a good stroke- bottom line.
That doesn’t seem to be the case because some guys just continue to lose every year. They lose at cards they lose at Pool and just keep losing and losing. They are the foundation on which the gambling industry is built.
@@FXBilliardsI agree 100%. In my experiences, i know countless guys that dont gamble that have played the same speed for ten years. They seem to plateau around an apa 5-6 skill level. The top players all would match up and push themselves. Regardless, love your channel and you put out great content. Keep up the good work!!
I saw a guy doing it at the Super Billiards Expo 15 years ago. I cant remember how long it took to get good at it but Earl Strickland KILLS IT! The most important part (believe it our not) is the toss of the moving ball. Notice which hand I use and where I send the ball. To make things worse, I use high left on these shots so the CUE BALL comes back to me. Put in some work and you will get it, but it's not EZ.
@ thanks Bryan ! That’s some pretty heavy stuff you just laid on me . The funny part is I understand . I definitely know it takes talent , and you’ve got that .
Thanks for watching. That might be all you need, but dropping in some drills will speed your improvement tremendously - I wish I had done drill a long time ago.

If you want to get better at 8ball position, you should play rotation games like 9-ball.
Thanks B! Appreciate you. I’m lucky enough to have a pool table and I’m back to getting reps in. I’m going to restructure my practice sessions to be - Acid test, Mighty X and then 9 ball. You mention in your videos that you have students. How do i find a "teacher" in New Jersey?
Email me at fxbilliards@gmail.com and tell me what part of New Jersey you’re in

Are you aiming at the ball or the ball and the rail at the same time? 😉
Is it better to do lots of reps each time when learning a new shot?
I would put in as many as you can stand doing. Then move to something else and come back to the shot you are learning.
@ thanks!
Drill, baby drill!

What’s the difference between 8ball and straight pool
They are completely different games with completely different rules. I don’t think I could explain the difference right here.
While practicing your draw is definitely important. Trying to practice the power draw when you're not going pro and you're just a casual player/recreational player wouldn't be the best thing since it's an emergency shot. Getting in action and the threat of losing your dough will improve your game more than anything

Bryan how much practice did it take you to do that rolling ball shot ? I’ve tried it but … can’t quite get there 😢. Thanks man !

I usually just break 15 balls and shoot them off focusing on my pre shot and alignment.
