I bought all my Leica cameras from Camera West and Leica San Francisco and you’re right! They’re the best and they stand behind what they sell! My M11 was freezing after two months they gave me a brand new one! No hassle, no fuss! Wayne at Leica SF is the best as are Sean and the rest of the crew! You hit another home run with this video! ✊🏿👏🏿✊🏿! Great job!!
I sold my M10-R because i had so many issues with motion blur/camera shake in my images starting at 1/90th and below. 40mpx is the beginning of the limits of a ragefinder without IBIS for me. Plus, you need to be extra accurate with focusing because when you zoom in... Well, you can't not see it if you miss even slighlty ! Hope your experience won't be as bad as mine. Cheers !
You are correct, but it is not the the 40 MP sensor. Any sensor over the 12 MP will show blur unless an effctive VR/IBIS has been employed, a shutter speed of 1/2 of the reciprocal of the focal length is used, or the camera has to be solidly mounted on a stable platform. A decade or so ago, Nikon introduced their 36MP D800. Everybody rushed to buy it and very soon they all started complaining about the lenses being soft. It wasn't the lens, it was the resolution of the sensor that would show a movement of even 0.01mm. When Olympus introduced the High Res Mode in their EM5 MKII/ EM1 MKII, They made it clear that it had to be used only when the camera was mounted on a tripod. In the menu there is options to set the delay in shutter release from 2s upwards. I really don't know what Leica is trying to achieve with introducing a 60MP sensor in a rangefinder without IBIS? It might just work in the Q3 and the 28mmm lens, but otherwise.. And before everyone starts to throw insults at me, I have Leicas, 3 of them, and I have been a photographer for over 45 years, and digital for about 20 years. I think I know what I am talking about.
@@lensman5762 Thanks for sharing. I went for the M10R because it felt like the absolute max resolution that made sense to me without IBIS. The M11 just felt like resolution was prioritized, but wasn't fully executed.
I recently did the switch from M10 to M10-R and couldn’t be happier (just released a video about it on my channel as well)! That extra resolution, added dynamic range and small addition like level, perspective control and touchscreen make this camera the “ultimate” digital M camera (yes, even over the M11 which represents a departure from the classic look and feel of the M series IMO) happy to see that you went over the preliminary quirks and that you gave it a fair try. The Leica community is so passionate. I have a similar relationship here in Montreal with the guys at Camtec/Leica Boutique. It adds to the whole experience! Happy shooting! Cheers, Fred
I want to change from Leica Q to Leica M, Leica M10-r is on my shortlist. it might be 2 years before I make up my mind, so I have time. thanks for this video.
I know you have been using your M11 for a while now. Would you say you miss the M10r or not even a small bit? M11 suffers from freezing issues. Not sure about the M10r
M10R froze, which is why I made this specific video in response to my initial one about it freezing. My M11 has frozen before, but it's not chronic or ongoing. Just kind of random in certain scenarios. It's never messed me up or made me miss a shot. I loved the M10R, but the M11, for me, is so much more practical. The battery life alone is a massive, MASSIVE upgrade to the M11. I can go two full days on an M11 charge. I had 4 batteries for a full day on my M10R.
Why would a different base iso make the camera meter differently and over expose ? That doesnt make sense, an exposure is an exposure irrespective of the base iso of the camera!!!!
The lower base ISO just means you can shoot slower shutter speeds in bright light. I love 1.4, but it's hard to do that in CA with a higher base ISO without engaging the electronic shutter, something I detest.
@@davidherring well at 3:54 you say M10R meters touch brighter because it has a lower base ISO. Base ISO has nothing to do with how a camera meters but rather to do with metering mechanism and software.
Hello, did you have any issue with low aperture blurry photos? I hear that for more pixels without IBIS you need to increase shutter speed? Where you could shoot handheld at equivalent of focal length on the m10 you need to be at minimun 125 on the M10-R for ex?
M10-R it is much better than the m10!! I love my m10R, When I bought it, it froze and I realized it was my memory card, I changed it and that's it, but I have noticed that it gets a little hot when I use the screen, With the battery I have no problems, one battery, lasts me all day on the street,, but i have had no problem with my camera so far, i use it for street photography, i love the colors combined with vintage Leica lenses.
Hi, thanks for your video! I have a basic question about the buffer on the M10-R. Does it fill up faster than the the M10? The specs list that buffer at 2GB. I was thinking of up grading from my M240 which has a relatively slow buffer for the amount of consecutive pictures i tend to fire off, I can take about 4 or 5 then it restricts me and I just switch to another camera that is strapped on. I'm looking for a little more freedom, I'm wondering if the M10-P or M10 can handle more buffer utilization, or does the M10-R buffer deal with the data as quickly as the other M10s. Thanks! I guess I could always pay $300 to $500 to rent it, but That amount of money is already allocated to Ballet lessons, Flamenco lessons, sewing lessons, food, new shoes (how can a child's feet grow so damn fast!), coffee, etc...
The buffer has held me up a few times if I'm shooting burst with a model. Sometimes I like to take 20-30 shots of a model in a flow rather than a pose. That's the only time I've had buffer issues.
@@davidherring I really appreciate the reply! How does the 10-R buffer compare with the M10 buffer? Is the M10 much more able to take lots of pics without having to "rest"? Thanks!
I've saved up for the M11...but curious whether to wait for the next iteration (M11-P/R) due to the issues people experienced with the release of the M11. I'm in no rush, and would prefer new over used (thus, am not interested in any of the M10 options)
Great video. I can definitely relate to that gut feeling after you drop a good chunk of money on a piece of equipment and it not working as you expect it to. Happy that you have the support there and that it’s all good now. I’m working up to add a digital body to compliment my film MP which is currently out for repair. What lens/focal length do you prefer?
@@davidherring I love 35 too and looking to get a 50. Trying to decide if I want the summicron or not. I saw you were shooting with it. How do you like not having the focus tab?
@@thomasjayprince For lack of tab didn't bother me too much. It's really no different than the much bigger lenses for DSLR or mirrorless, just smaller in the hand. The lack of tab didn't phase me. While I like the summicron a lot, at the end of the day, I really wanted to get a forever lens...the summilux! Picked it up, and listed my summicron for sale.
Nice channel. I love your colours and I really resonate with the way you colour grade. I am curious to know what you think about the M11 colours? To my eyes, I like the m10, m10R more. All the samples from the M11 I found online have a very clear magenta shift and the blues look quite digital to me. Not sure how to explain this but I usually prefer the blues to be a touch towards the cyan and the skin to be on point without going towards the reds. I find this to be easier with M10, M10R. Cheers
No but the commercial work I do requires 40+mp for cropping for use variety, like tourism, product, etc. I shoot the R line of Sony and currently the M10R.
Nice, glad to hear everything is fine now for you with the M10R :). I agree, local camera store are just cool, specially with good customer service. Had the same great experience with a Leica store here in Germany. They invited me for coffee, but due to family duties, I can't take that invite as often as I would like to :D Will you sell your M10 or keep it as a "M10 backup"? :) Great video as always!
I actually had someone buy it locally before I even listed it! Rather have it in someone’s hands than on my shelf as a backup. So my Leica setup is now the M10R, Q2, and M6. Can’t think of a better setup for this season I’m in!
Love the intro to the video! 😊 I got my M10-R right around the same time you did, so I'd watched your previous video with a lot of interest...and-given your title-a lot of trepidation. Glad to see that you're now happier with the camera than you were a couple of weeks ago. I bought mine used (in great condition) from the Leica store here in Boston and was very happy with my decision to buy it from them. The staff was super helpful and accommodating. The camera works like a charm, yet my one gripe with it, which you also touched upon, is the multi-field metering: I find it to be a bit inconstant and 'temperamental', so to speak. But, since the dynamic range on this camera is just insane, no detail is really 'lost' either in the highlights or the shadows if one's shooting in raw. So, for me, it's a keeper. 👍
actually Leica servis is ...... i repair mine in my home town for less than 1 of 10 the price. Leica really offer me new with discount than repair mine so .... this is red line for me.
I own an M10r and have never had issues with it. My point is about buying used from shops or ebay. I have bought tons of stuff but always try to avoid ebay as I find the prices massively inflated, often more than a shop which gives a guarantee. No guarentee from ebay just very greedy sellers.
