      It's not needed actually, we rarely use onions in our soups as igbos.

    Thanks a lot, Joyful cook. I made this soup today using your recipe except for the smoked catfish. It took time (I guess because it's my first time and the use of 1 gas ) I started at 6:46 pm and ended it at 9:27 pm. Thank you once again.

    On a side note ma I think you should talk about the particular specie of coco yam to use if your looking for that Specific Oha taste is not all coco yam that can be used. My opinion though

      The cocoyam dissolves in the broth and causes it to thicken, giving it the famous oha consistency

    Sis, how do we remove the cocoyam when it's already blended and added to the soup? I understood everything except that bit. Would like to know. I am not Nigerian but love the cooking ❤❤

      When it is already blended? How do you mean? When you blend it with blender it is already a paste and When added to the soup it dissolves. Maybe you mean something else?

    Hello Joyful cook am watching from Nigeria and I from the northern part of Nigeria I want to ask why use hand to cut the oha why can't you use knife to cut the leaves

      Oha leaf doesn't go well when cut with knife like other greens. It's best hand tossed

    This is my first time watching. I’m in Baltimore, Md USA. There is an African restaurant here that serves Nigerian food, but I do not know what to get. I don’t think I would eat periwinkle, but the leafy green soup, I most definitely want and to experience eating with my fingers using the poundo yams instead of utensils would be AWESOME
