Mahalo. I volunteer teaching art at a public school, and have purchased supplies to make these. You have shared really great ideas, here. Mahalo from Hawaii.
Love the design and method. Clicked on this because I have been finding four-leaf clovers and wanted to use them in my designs. For the copper patina, I use rubbing alcohol to get any lingering residue off the solder after I use the steel wool. Also using a wax polish and buffing it with a cotton rag has helped me in the past brighten up the copper.
Can you tell me what would happen if you didn’t copper tape the first level and you just put the flower in the glass and taped with one big tape what would happen do you know can you share?
Your my first Thumbs up & Subscribe! No lie. lol . I recently started pressing flowers and thought I'd try doing my own floating glass frame. Your vid has an uber amount of great info!!! My question (and prob will have many more) is there a recommended glass thickness to use? Thanks
Oh my gosh, that means so much to me, thank you!! ❤️ For glass, I use framing glass (what you use in picture frames) from a local framing shop. It’s very thin, but I don’t know the official thickness of it. The important thing is to not get the the kind with an anti-reflective coating.
love this tutorial! for the stained glass piece, what kind/thickness is the glass you sandwich the flower between? I really want to try this, but I can’t find glass thin enough so that it won’t stick out compared to the other glass in the panel
Hi! Even with the thinnest glass, it will still be thicker than the rest of the stained glass. But you can only tell if you look at the back of the piece. I use framing glass, but have noticed that it varies in thickness. Since I get it free from a framing shop, I end up with a variety of glass that’s all different.
I have watched this video three times in hopes that I'm not missing the answer I'm looking for... and I don't think it's in the video, so here it goes: When you're setting flowers in one section of a multiple piece project, the thickness level is different on that flower segment, correct? Is there a way you ensure that it's level with the rest of the glass? Or do you have a preference in how to solder that piece with the rest (ie raised side outward facing?). I designed a little decorative stained glass frame for flowers, but I'm a bit confused if I need to establish the clear glass over the whole piece or if it would work just to layer the floral segment. (My design currently has regular stained glass as the backing as opposed to entirely clear layers.) Thanks in advance, and thank you SO MUCH for this video. It's so helpful, and was able to use the links you offered for supplies to get myself started. x
Hi! When I do this method I only use paste flux. Liquid and gel causes leakage and condensation. Also, when you burnish your foil it needs to be done really well. I use a kitchen scraper. 👍
Quick question! When you did the stained glass drop with the flower why did you foil the pieces that held the flower individually, then foiled them with the wider tape? Can you just use the wider tape or does the smaller tape allow for a bigger gap? If so, how does that effect the rest of the pieces? Are they all still the same level?
Thanks for this video and also the free glass tip! I’m really new at this and am taking a course now. Want to purchase a soldering iron and looked at the one you recommended, however, there was a comment that there’s a wattage problem when used in the US because it’s made in Japan. What do you think? Are there others that you have tried and could recommend? Thx
Nice job!! The one part I was hoping you'd go over is how you cleaned it after soldering to get all the Flux off. I've tried plated pieces before (butterflies & feathers) the one thing that seems to always happen is, Flux or water gets in between the glass and ruins the piece. I use paste Flux and very little. Do you just dry clean it or clean it with soapy water? Just wondering. Also, I've heard if you wax your piece PRIOR to using the copper patina, it will come out much shinier. Thank you for posting this video. I really appreciate all your details! :)
Great tip on the wax! I'll have to try that. For cleaning, make sure that you reeeeally scrape that foil onto the glass and make sure the glass is clean so that it has a good stick. Sometimes I even warm the glass up on a heating pad because that makes the foil stick better. I've never had a problem with moisture getting into the pieces and I wash with soap and water and then use flux remover for the final clean. :)
This video is so helpful, as is your supply list (purchased several items)! Any tips on spraying the small flowers with the spray you recommended? I tried with them flat and they blew all over the place 🤦♀️
I camt find plain flat clear glass on Amazon, only colored and/or textured glass so I came here hoping that the glass you use would be on your list of supplies used. Could you kindly point me in the right direction for the type of glass you use for pressed flowers? Thanks!
Hi! I love so much your art! I would like to know if this tecnique... can i do with acrilyc sheet Instead of glass.? Thanks and greetings from Colombia 💜🍃✨😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I want to make my own glass medallions instead of bying them but they're for wearing as pendants so I don't think I can use solder that has lead in it. Any idea what I can use instead? Thanks!
Great video, thanks for the info. New to soldering---wanting to focus on pressed flower art/jewelry. As I've watched a lot of videos on the stained glass process/soldering techniques I see some people mention putting the pieces in a pickle solution. Is this step not necessary when you have a spray flux remover like you have? Also, is a flux remover and a finishing polish different? Wanting to shine as much as possible but just wanting to make sure I don't duplicate steps if they are the same product.

Great vid. You don't need the music. All the sounds, as little as they are, are part of the process. People won't get bored, they're learning 😊
This amazing. Please do more videos. Please 🥺 . Don't stop .
I'm definitely working on more! :-) Glad it was helpful!!
I second that!

Great tips!! I'm pretty sure I used alcohol the one time I had big success with it, will definitely start doing that again!
Can you tell me what would happen if you didn’t copper tape the first level and you just put the flower in the glass and taped with one big tape what would happen do you know can you share?
Really nice
Wow,thanks so much for this!
My goodness thank you 😊 thank you 😊.
So beautiful.⚘ I'l ltry to adapt them with my idea.👍👍👍 Thanks.
Thanks!! :)
Thank you great video

P.S. they will give you their glass scraps for free.
@@glassypatterns4289 Thank you much. Ill check with my local framing shop! ;)

I'm so new to this and I love it. Can I just leave it without giving it a copper finish, please?? I like the silver look. THANK YOU in advance.
Absolutely! That's way easier. :)
I like that very much

Hi, great video. How do you avoid condensation building up on the glass when you use the soldering iron? Thanks

@glassypatterns4289 great advice, thank you

I wanted the inside to be silver instead of copper and I did not have quarter-inch silver tape. I talk about it more in the video. :)
Gran video.Me encantaría que los subtítulos fueran en castellano.Muchas gracias
What glass thickness did you use for the soldered to stained glass? Very helpful video!
Hi, thank you so much for inspiring me. Can you please share the link to the scraper tool you used? It looks like a smooth glide for the foil.
너무 이뻐요^^♡

Hi! Yes they definitely like to blow all over the place! 😂 I hold the small flowers with tweezer when I spray them. Hope that helps!
Just use a small stick pin.
Was hoping your Supply list would tell where you got your colored glass. Can you share?
This Video so helpful.
May I ask something?
Is it possible if we replace glass with plexiglass?
Hello! Do we know if water droplets will form between both pieces of glass for things like this? 🧐
Aww thanks so much! I think that acrilyc would melt when you solder it. However, I've never tried it so I can't be sure about that.
I just tried with leaves but the patina seeped through the sandwiched glass. How do you avoid that from happening?
I know you didn’t use glue here, but when you do use glue to hold the flowers in place, what kind of glue do you find is best?
Hi! I talk all about glue at around the 7 minute mark. :-)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I want to make my own glass medallions instead of bying them but they're for wearing as pendants so I don't think I can use solder that has lead in it. Any idea what I can use instead? Thanks!
You can buy lead free solder
Great video, thank you! Where can I find the tool that you use to smooth the foil onto the glass?
Hi! It's a common kitchen scraper that you can find on Amazon and it works great!
Question! Could you leave the piece just fouled without the solder? Or is it not strong enough to keep everything together ?
You could and some people do, but it has an overall cheaper look since it's just tape.
Are your flowers already dried? Or do you put them in freshly cut? Wouldn't they deteriorate or something if there's still moisture?
They are dried already. If you put them in fresh they’ll turn brown and they would be flat enough.
Is there a certain jump ring material or thickness I need to look for? Those jump rings you used are no longer available.
You do not mention the glass you use in supplies. Lovely idea
Hi! That's because I mentioned in the video that I get the glass for free from local framing shops. :)
Can you tell me what the blue liquid you use in 24:41 is? I really wanna know. Love your video
Lovely video, why do you foil twice?
Great video, thanks for the info. New to soldering---wanting to focus on pressed flower art/jewelry. As I've watched a lot of videos on the stained glass process/soldering techniques I see some people mention putting the pieces in a pickle solution. Where can you get dried flowers? Do you have a tutorial on drying flowers?
Lindo.
Essa argola é de metal?
Can you tell me which glue you used in the video.
Are these real flowers or artificial flowers?
Is that a cork board you are working on? Or what type of material is that?
Yes it's corkboard! I like it because it's cheap and the pins go into it easily. However, you have to store it flat or it'll get a little warped.
So you ever do this but with fabric?
“The reason is because....” 😂
Cual es la patina del final del video para volver al color cobre?
Do you press the flowers first before the preservation spray?
I buy them pre-pressed on Etsy. :)
How do I press the flowers to begin with?
Where do you purchase the glass? I can’t find a good website
Why do you foil the pieces twice? Thank you.
Hi! I explained that in the video. It's only for that particular technique where I want the foil to be the same width as the rest of the piece.
I am having trouble trying to understand why you foiled twice? Could you not have just foiled the two pieces together?
@Dani Marie I new I should have gone back and watched it again. Thanks for explaining to this slow witted subscriber. Keep up the good work.
