    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    This is Diana Ross the trailblazer glittering in gold. In the 60’s it was groundbreaking to see an African-American woman holding hands with a Caucasian man and also kissing him and he kissing her on national tv. Diana was there at the forefront of the civil rights movement simply through being the lovely entertainer she still is and tearing down barriers in a sweet, fun manner. Through her music and aura as a performer, she brought many races and generations together at a pivotal time in our nation. Many social norms that we take for granted today, she forged years ago all while wearing her sequins and feathers and singing in her own unique style. People of all persuasions just naturally joined in with her. La Ross The Boss!

      I read Mary Wilson's book, "Dream Girls", and she said they were on Sullivan so often they thought of it as the Supremes show. She said Ed Sullivan loved them and made no bones about it. He was crazy about them!

      @Tes7000 2 года назад +1

      William: I don't think that was great advice, or perhaps they took it too far. When I listen to old Supremes concerts, it is always disappointing how many show tunes are in their set, to the point of show tunes being the majority of the show. I get that the goal was to make the Supremes a top act for older concert-goers at top clubs in Vegas and venues like The Copacabana, but it doesn't make sense to me that people were paying money to see The Supremes only to hear rushed medleys of their hits.
