A few things: The Western Conference caught up to them, they tried to wisely trade for a new core before backfired in the cheapest way possible, and they kept pushing until the wheels fell off. That's the price of being a contending team. If you push too high, the fall will just be worse and what a fall the Lakers went through. And then, no one wanted to go there. I think they're still in this dark age. RIP KOBE🕊️
They’re not in a dark age still 😂 They made WCF recently, it’s definitely a pretender team more than a contender team now but whos to say they cant achieve deep playoff success. Even if they cant win it shouldnt be looked like as a lackluster team. Many teams would swap places to be in this “dark era”
@@jnulmtd It's not the dark ages of like they're really bad. But it's more of they're trying to keep pushing with the tactics that they have and they just get unlucky or they're very stagnant. Even with the championship that they won it just feels like a respite. Management once again being complacent at the worst possible time and trying to fix the one thing that should not be broken.
@@cheekypasta55 That 2019-20 Championship was like the Yankees 2009 championship, a complete joyful respite and then painful memories around it. It made them think that they were better than what they were and they once again tried to fix what was the furthest thing from broken, just like what happened after 2020. And, it didn't work.
Really appreciate this vid. I used to hate Kobe as a kid. Not sure why. Maybe all allegations of selfishness, public beef with Shaq, etc left an impression on my young mind. It wasn't until his later years when I started to look into the kind of person he was off court that I learned to truly appreciate his greatness on it. It's crazy to think that he was only 33 when he played his last playoff game. He had so many more years left in him. It's crazy how that one ridiculous veto messed up so much about his latter years. He definitely would have had at least one more ring with CP. Heck, he might even have another if they'd just brought Phil back to handle Dwight's ego.
David Stern vetoed the Chris Paul trade because Dan Gilbert and the small-market owners had argued that CP3 (and Dwight Howard later) going to the Lakers would upset the power balance in the NBA, and Stern decided to heed their words.
The 2012 playoffs was the sign that Kobe's era was at its end. You got Dirk getting swept, the Celtics big three fighting to the brink for their last game together and of course Kobe losing to the next gen of MVPs in the west.
