The Original Sims game has an atmosphere that none of the other games replicate. Sims 2 onward it was "modern living" as a base and adding wackiness through subsequent expansions. Sims 1 had that American TV Sitcom Americana feel that oozed into everything.
That is why Sims 2 was more successful in countries outside of the US. People couldn't really relate to the American TV Sitcom feel, many countries in Europe didn't even have American sitcoms. BUT I love The Sims 1, it's full of nostalgia, even though it's not as relatable to me as it possibly could have been.
Every 30 year old remembers the feeling of booting up their XP each crisp morning and plopping in that scratched CD. Mom walked in, yawning and turned on the coffee. You sat patienrly reading the subtitles on the loading screen. The world was yours, man.

@Lulls Baby Same for me but I'm 20, when i was 8 or 9, my brother buyed a pirate copy with all the expansions, it was a bit fun, until a house fire appears, the fire scares me and my sister shitless, she thought there was a demon on the fire. i was so hooked in high school that i'd sneak into the office room late at night to play. god can you imagine having god damn TIME LIMITS playing a game like this? it was really the first game where you really felt that "The world was yours, man" feeling. sims 2 and minecraft were pretty amazing but there's nothings like your first. I remember one night I heard my mom's footsteps closing in at like 1:00am and I quick-goat-thinking switched the monitor off, ducked under the desk and pulled the office chair in. She see's that the computer is on and shuts it down which killed like an hour of unsaved progress which i quickly made up plus about 5 more hours. 1st-hour study hall really came in handy in those time lol
Amen. I hate when I get into a show or a comic or a video game, and right when I'm starting to really enjoy it, it gets needlessly political or preachy. Like, dude, I'm just trying to have a bit of escapism. At least we have these classics to return to.
I remember the feeling. In my school, only a few classmates were "lucky enough" to have a computer to play it. At home, we had a single computer for the whole family. We couldn't afford the real game, though. I remember when me and my father went to the street market in order to get a pirated copy. I still remember the chills while I watched the installation screen, and my dad clicking that forward button. At that moment, it was only The Sims 1, no expansions. The memories of playing The Sims are some of the greatest memories of my life. I can remember the excitement of going home after school just to play it. I remember the weekends playing it. It was unique. The creation of the family, the description, the house building, the large families struggling to earn a living, the careers, the burglars, the phone calls telling you won/lost something... What a great feeling!
Yes!! Same here! I remember being so excited over seeing a sim washing their hands at the sink. Me, as a 8 year-old: WOOOOW, the technology! she's WASHING HER HANDS and I can see the FOAM!!! 😂
The entire Building Mode had, imo, the most breathtaking music of the game. Those melodies suited perfectly with the spirit of "to build a home". They had something that went beyond the game itself.
The Sims 1 was truly a surreal game. Sound effects that genuinely scared people (Burglar/Fire), horrifying death sounds, the stripper cake, the vibrating heart bed, random phone dialog boxes, all the little mini games, the list could go on. The newer games can never top this unique "feel" The Sims 1 had. Also RIP to the og female voice actor.
This was when the game creator, Will Wright, had control and input of the game. You can definitely see the unique quirks, music and idiosyncrasies of the game were his brainchild. Eventually the game came under full control of EA around the end of the Sims 2, and beginning Sims 3. You can tell the difference. The Sims 1 is a product of pure inspiration.
@@vania4992 It's royalty free and child appropriate. There's not even lyrics to a lot of the songs. No worries about angry Karens screaming about how the music is too inappropriate for their kids. If I were a dentist, I'd play this stuff too, it's chill and calming and most people are already on edge at the dentist. I know I am.
I remember the most of soundtrack except 4. 3rd part was the most played in my childhood and I can remember 50% of soundtrack from there while 4th part is all bland and boring (while 4th soundtrack still sounds beautiful).
LOL ikr i wasted so many hours of my young life on this game but had so much fun, no regrets, i remember seeing the sunrise sometimes being sat at my computer like, yea time to actually get in my real bed right now, lmao.
Thats because it was impossible to play just a little bit... There were so many variables, youd get sucked in. I used to download add ons of items and add them into the file system so i could have new stuff next time i played kahaa
Building mode 2 (45:18 - 50:24) has to be one of the most complex and emotionally mature pieces I've ever heard. Sims 1 had a lot of passion in it's soundtrack, you can really tell.
nostalgia is like looking through rose-tinted glasses, i've played the sims 1 fairly recently, it hasn't aged well, if you've played any of the games that came after it, it won't be the same as that first experience you had with it.
Real orchestra recording. I remember that in the credits you can see the full list of musicians. This game has one of the most wonderful soundtracks ever. Seems like something out of a Disney movie or something, really magical.
My childhood friend who introduced me to the Sims passed away a few years ago and the first "building mode" song got me in the feels pretty good I remember me and him would spend hours designing houses going over the finest details like does the dresser match the doors, it was a lot of fun. RIP.
My childhood best friend I played this game with passed away last year. This hit me too. BIG time. I've been losing myself in Sims 4 when I find the time. I'm so sorry for your loss.
RIP 😢😢😢 I don’t want that to happen to me. My best friend also introduced to this game and I know it would be inevitable to not think of him, even more than how I do it now, if he passes away and I’m still alive. Hopefully their family allowed to play this at his funeral…. FUCK! Why am I thinking that 😢😢😢 I need to call him ASAP
As a Brazilian, I can easily say that this soundtrack is very much like our "Samba" music style, mixed with a new-fusion Jazz style, it just hits really hard, easily one of the most iconic soundtracks of all time.
@@martinmorales5482 Sure, mate. Therapy is so good, helps one understand and accept oneself and others. Going to tell my therapist on Monday how important Sims was for me as a kid and why. Also why I feel like returning to that nostalgia now. Take care!
I love that one. Listening to it, i imagine suburbs in the 50s, where every house is exactly the same, perfect little lawns and mail boxes. House wives kissing their husbands goodbye as they head off to work.
I was pregnant and put on bed rest and played this game alot, sipping tea and hot cocoa and wasting time screaming at sims setting fire to everything lol
I'm playing Sims 3. 1 and 2 wouldn't satisfy me as much anymore, because of Sims 3's true 3D graphics, open world, much more flexibility and options concerning building and playing in general. But I still have the good times of 1 in my mind. And all Sims 1 CDs/DVDs in my shelf. 😉
I'm trying to reinstall it right now. But I never really learned how to play it well. I expect to spend hours spraying cockroaches before getting visited by the tragic clown and then losing the whole house to a fire my first time cooking something. Wish me luck lol
im 27 now and i was about 9 when i played the sims. im a musician now and i have to say thanks to this music as it would've definitely helped me listening to all this for hours on end. Fantastic music, fantastic game, fantastic memories.
I remember the summer vacations of 2001. Playing this game with my best friend after hours of walking around the neighborhood and playing soccer. We would meet early in the morning and would say our goodbyes "only" after 8pm. Then we would exchange funny messages on ICQ and go to sleep only to do all that again the next day. This soundtrack brings back so many great memories of being a restless kid full of hopes and dreams, sharing life with a likewise restless kid who once was "the new guy" in school and no one wanted to talk to him. I did. And boy, oh boy, did I make the right choice. We're still best friends to this day, a bit far away from each other and with families and work, but every time we meet It's summer of '01 again. Thanks for making this soundtrack available. It made my day. =)
I so relate! My best friend I played this with actually passed away last year and just the other day, I ran across some picture that reminded me of classic sims and for a split second, I thought of messaging her about it. It's weird how something as simple as the sims created this crazy bond. We would play the sims, walk to the park, or play games on the original playstation. Those summers were magical.
I could say the same for The Sims 2. Don't care if the sequel is basically an upgraded version of the original, remaster them both as HD remasters a la Final Fantasy X/X-2!
Whenever I get drunk I start playing this soundtrack nomatter where I am and I just love that about myself. Now instead of going into spotify I'll just look this link up 🤣 ty!
30 here. It's March 2023 and I'm still highly addicted to Jazz and Bossa Nova thanks to the genius artistic minds of Marc Russo and Jerry Martin. Love you guys. Nothing like some modern high tempo suburban or city jazz. I'd love to open my own Sims cafe or restaurant irl.
This music makes me so damn happy it's ridiculous. Listened to these for easily hundreds of hours and haven't heard them in almost 20 years. One of the greatest OSTs and it doesn't get enough praise today.
The building mode music sure bring me back to early 2000s..spent countless hours hearing them. Thanks man for letting me experiences this masterpiece music.
It’s the Build Mode tracks that stick with me the most. They just capture that wistful nostalgia like nothing else. Every time I listen to them it’s like everything stops for a moment and I can see right back to the world I lived in when I was a child. It’s like going back home. And more than any of the others, Build Mode 6 is the one I get lost in the most. It’s like a warm, bittersweet hug from an old friend I can’t quite go back to. It’s ironic they have such mundane and clinical names because they’re some of the most profoundly moving pieces of music I have in my life.
45:18 Buying Lumber Truly, truly, one of my fondest memories. Having a bad day at school (as many were) and coming home to silently cry into this music as the sound of the piano drifts my mind away...
spent 3 hours building a new house; spent 1 hours building a new family; spent 10 mins inputting money cheats; spent 3 hours decorating the house; spent 10 mins playing with the new house and family; 5 more mins later, cooked them all by lighting a fire in a confined room with a lot of wooden chairs.
nothing was as traumatizing as getting robbed or getting those "prank" phone calls as a kid... made my parents sit next to me every time I played bc of it lol, at least the music makes the experience much better
@@JohnDoe-on6ru GOD SAME. I started making my Sim not answer the phone when it rang after missing a day, and eventually I just stopped giving my Sims phones lol
I love listening to the Sims 1 Soundtrack when I am working on Assignments or Studying for school its literally perfect! Thank you for this:) Sims 1 and Sims 3 are literally the best games out there!
To be honest, all sims Soundtracks (except for 4) have been memorable to me in their unique way... But first The Sims will always have the best soundtrack in my opinion. All the songs work really well with the idea of simulating life, they all fit the idea they were meant to be used at... Specially Makin' Magic OMG those songs are incredible
@@MrPillowStudios Yeah, but Sims 4 has already been out for a very long time, recieving DLC after DLC, more and more meaningless gameplay after meaningless gameplay... I remember when I bought the game on the release date, and still it has not marked me by any means, the saddest part is that a lot of people feel the same way I do. Sims 4 just focused on the wrong things instead of focusing on being a Sims game, like the older games have =P
Fun fact: in the italian version of The Sims 1, they apparently forgot to insert neighborhood 1 e 2 track so I grew up without listening to these masterpieces. Nonetheless this I have goosebumbs goosebumps anyways
Might be my memory being defective, but I had the french version of the game and can't also recall neighborhood 1 nor 2 while I remember all the others.
@@ishakenjy8344 I think you'd remember them if they were in the game. but anyways the composers of the tracks are the same, so the vibe is the same!! chilsss
Yeah, in Europe tha "Jazzy" neighborhood 1 and 2 themes and the main theme of The Sims (neighborhood 3), weren't included on the game, and instead only the "Latin" themes would play. The audio archives for them are still in the game files and can be just put in the corresponding folder for nhood music. You can actually put any music! The game had several changes for different regions: in Europe we had different street styles, roofs and wallpapers for some houses; in Asia they had that plus different models for the characters, with mostly asian faces.
My Lord this brings back some memories. Build mode is simultaneously the most iconic collection of tracks, while also sounding like one of those old-timey infomercial things from the 80s and 90s. Lol.
Chills down my spine... I just began middle school when The Sims was released, more than 20 yrs later this music brings back everything, my old room, the desk (the kind with the cut out for the PC on the floor), the cheap ass PC and CRT monitor, Windows ME baby! It's incredible how music, especially this songs I probably listened to for hundreds of hours without realizing, have this "wormhole" time & space effect!
These sims music are so chill and relax, it's almost become part of my gene. You will never get tired of it and it's even make you feel like being at home. I started to play sims since i was in primary school then i like bossa nova though this background music. love it!
Making magic was the trauma of my childhood. I was like 7yo and created my first sim using my real name, next thing I know is that there’s a genie who made my house burn with my Sim in it. So it’s like, 7yo me watching myself DIE. I screamed to death and didn’t play the game for a whole year 😂😂😂😂
i remember staying up all night with nothing to worry about the next day, my biggest problem in life was building this home with this wonderful music - thank you for uploading
I’ve been playing sims ever since I was 4, and I’m 22 now. The first track is the first thing I think of every single time I think of sims, and it NEVER fails to hit. Ain’t nothin like the original sims soundtrack ❤
We grew up with this amazing soundtrack. Now in my 30s and listening to this especially the "Build Mode", it creates a sense of gratitude in me and makes me realize, decades ago I was building my dream homes and families and neighborhood and lifestyles in that virtual world back when reality was simple, and now I'm actually living all these wonderful dreams - a wonderful home, family, lovely daughter and wife, gradually acquiring possessions and building our temporary home in preparation to achieve our very own dream home. Grateful for dreaming then, believing, and oftentimes toughness of life can makes us forget the good, but moments like listening to these instrumentals, helps brings back gratitude in my heart.
This is so relaxing! Brings memories of my teen years taking care of my sims and not for myself for hours 😄 Nowadays I play Sims 4, but the first game was something else including the soundtrack 💜
Playing this game on my PC back in 2002 was exhilarating. Being 7 or 8 years old, building houses, and having pure imagination of my Sims' lives with a great soundtrack made being a kid in that particular era great. Now that I'm an adult who's a musician (and loves music), I can't help but to appreciate this soundtrack even more.
I remember bein a kid and going into build mode and just zoning out at the incredible piano bein blasted into my ears and completely forget I was even playing a game. I don't know who made this soundtrack or how much they were paid, but it wasn't enough.
While doing my taxes, and listening to this, my brain be like: "maaaaaan, I hate being an adult." But we have to face reality... Sims' music always takes me back. I'm reinstalling that bad boy with all of the DLC. One good thing about being an adult is having the money you can spend without anyone telling you what to do with it. :D Only if I could find a complete brand new copy lol I remember waking up at 4 in the morning and firing up the family PC hoping my mom wouldn't hear the damn thing, I put my shitty earphones on and just play for hours until the inevitable morning sermon. I miss those days. I even remember seeing commercials of this at malls and just be so damn excited to go home! I'm not crying! You are!
without this soundtrack - i could'nt work in peace. I think - it is truly the soundtrack of my life :D I wish I could be young again! Every Christmas, my parents have given us another expansion pack of THE SIMS. Every evening, my sister and me, we played this game and we were so excited about all the new stuff, new cool hairstyles, new music ... it was SO GREAT. I will never forget this time. It was just too peaceful and calm and lovely. SIMS had a huge impact :) Thanks to Mr. Will Wright !!!
I have been adding one more view probably daily to this video since last year. Monday to Friday. It all started when I was looking for background music to do my daily work, and Sims 1 has given me the best results helping me to concentrate way more than other sounds or music. I read that this is because it tricks my brain by thinking that I am actually playing the game and not doing an actual work. It travels me back to me playing the game in my room after school, all the excitement and joy of the moment and makes me feel like I'm in that safe place once more. I you haven’t tried I recommend you to do it 💛
2:40:42 is The Humble Brothers - Superstar and I first heard it in The Sims Bustin Out and it is ridiculously amazing quality and a well produced song. It's probably my favourite song in the sims. I also love Build 1 & 2, they are so emotional.
i remember playing this game in my first personal "only for me" computer. a compaq presario 1200 laptop. it meant the world to me, even if the screen was complete crap, you moved 5 cm to the side and you could not see anything and all games had that ghosting effect, it had its charm that i will never forget. playing sims and age of empires 2 was all i was playing for a long time in 2001. i was always trying to play counter strike 1.5 but my laptop was just not powerful enought to handle it , playing in software mode at very low fps when adding bots. so just playing maps alone, exploring all their corners and being amazed at being able to wonder in a 3d enviroment. playing sims and hearing all these magical songs imprinted deep in my mind forever, as well as all the tunes from Aoe2. playing with my grandmother in the back, who i lost last year. she loved me so much, i was never able to properly express her my love to her with words, but i think i was by my actions. a time when i was a kid and my biggest resposability was just to study for school and cope with the complications of dealing with other kids at school. a completely different world that will never come back but will live forever in my memory until i die.
wish i could have began my engineering degree back then when this stuff was fresh, would have blown my mind to simulate what i was learning with newer and newer releases.
The sims was my favorite fantasy adventrue game, imagine being able to own a house and have relatively stable job security. Everywhere is always hiring!
what we want is the music of The Sims, with the graphics and customisability of Sims 3, the complexity of Cities Skylines (yes, I want to be able to build and modify neighbourhood AS I PLAY), and the gameplay and expansion packs of Sims 2. All in one. when can we have that please?
Neighborhood4. I remember this song playing so vividly. I loved it, still do. Turning 30 this year - The Sims will always hold a very special place in my heart. So many teenage years were spent playing this game.

Never could nail down that experience with words until you said it, Americana sitcom series is perfect.

Except Buying Lumber, that track is beyond melancholic.
I haven't heard this music in about 18 years, holy shit that nostalgia hit me hard.
Same, brother. Same. 😭
we're same broo damn
so we're all here huh 😭
After school. Every day. My mom would be yelling to let my brother use it for a bit. Fantastic times.
So almost when the game was made
The Sims 1 was truly a surreal game.

I thought I remembered Sims1 very well - but I can't remember any mini games? Remind me please 😍
I knew that the music at my dentist's clinic sounded familiar
why does my dentist play the same music? is this a dentist thing?
@@vania4992 It's royalty free and child appropriate. There's not even lyrics to a lot of the songs. No worries about angry Karens screaming about how the music is too inappropriate for their kids. If I were a dentist, I'd play this stuff too, it's chill and calming and most people are already on edge at the dentist. I know I am.
@@EdwardoLover Why would they be royalty free? They were composed for the games and can be bought on Amazon or iTunes.

same here, i can remember 1 and 2 music, but nothing comes to mind from 4, 3 wasnt bad, but not as memorable
There was one loading screen theme from Sims 3 that stuck with me, but I see what you mean. Sims 1 music is iconic

It's like this music was composed for the sole purpose of being nostalgic.
Animal Crossing on GameCube (which came out roughly round the same time) is another great example of that!
yep, even back then it seemed... special, iconic.

Kind of, one should not be ashamed about elevator music.
Don't be afraid, in fact Sims got me in to it...
That’s such a cool fact! I have to check that out next time I play because I missed it.
We need republish of this game. But not remastered, maybe some bugs or glitch fixes. We need the same classic graphics. That's what makes it cool.
exactly. there was such a nice feeling to it. expansive yet just enough. just a rerelease that's polished and we would all rejoice.
Yes, also adding forgotten mechanics like stairs, visit lots, and why not? Childs that actually grow up
Much like the new Age Of Empires they remastered, Id buy Sims 1 again...
I would like the same 2D sprites redrawn in HD, but still 2D.
nostalgia is like looking through rose-tinted glasses, i've played the sims 1 fairly recently, it hasn't aged well, if you've played any of the games that came after it, it won't be the same as that first experience you had with it.
Real orchestra recording. I remember that in the credits you can see the full list of musicians. This game has one of the most wonderful soundtracks ever. Seems like something out of a Disney movie or something, really magical.
10:04 my favorite, sax is amazing.
Yes. I don't know how but I've heard some The Sims tracks used in random tv shows, like Masterchef Italian version (lol).
My childhood friend who introduced me to the Sims passed away a few years ago and the first "building mode" song got me in the feels pretty good I remember me and him would spend hours designing houses going over the finest details like does the dresser match the doors, it was a lot of fun. RIP.

I don’t want that to happen to me. My best friend also introduced to this game and I know it would be inevitable to not think of him, even more than how I do it now, if he passes away and I’m still alive. Hopefully their family allowed to play this at his funeral…. FUCK! Why am I thinking that 😢😢😢
I need to call him ASAP

As a Brazilian, I can easily say that this soundtrack is very much like our "Samba" music style, mixed with a new-fusion Jazz style, it just hits really hard, easily one of the most iconic soundtracks of all time.

Wow, it's the Buy Mode songs for me. Feel like these are sporadically stuck in my head for the last 18 or so years
Honestly this soundtrack is iconic.
Aww. Thanks for sharing that nice little part of your life. I was happiest when I was playing this game as a kid with no friends lol.

Those summers were magical.
i was hired as a background dj in a company lunch, download this 3 hours track and they loved it. thank you so much ☺

The audio archives for them are still in the game files and can be just put in the corresponding folder for nhood music. You can actually put any music!

Brings memories of my teen years taking care of my sims and not for myself for hours 😄
Nowadays I play Sims 4, but the first game was something else including the soundtrack 💜

While doing my taxes, and listening to this, my brain be like:
"maaaaaan, I hate being an adult."
But we have to face reality...
Sims' music always takes me back. I'm reinstalling that bad boy with all of the DLC. One good thing about being an adult is having the money you can spend without anyone telling you what to do with it. :D
Only if I could find a complete brand new copy lol
I remember waking up at 4 in the morning and firing up the family PC hoping my mom wouldn't hear the damn thing, I put my shitty earphones on and just play for hours until the inevitable morning sermon.

We’re the real Sims. I’m just glad they haven’t taken the pool ladder away yet....
i remember playing this game in my first personal "only for me" computer. a compaq presario 1200 laptop. it meant the world to me, even if the screen was complete crap, you moved 5 cm to the side and you could not see anything and all games had that ghosting effect, it had its charm that i will never forget. playing sims and age of empires 2 was all i was playing for a long time in 2001. i was always trying to play counter strike 1.5 but my laptop was just not powerful enought to handle it , playing in software mode at very low fps when adding bots. so just playing maps alone, exploring all their corners and being amazed at being able to wonder in a 3d enviroment. playing sims and hearing all these magical songs imprinted deep in my mind forever, as well as all the tunes from Aoe2. playing with my grandmother in the back, who i lost last year. she loved me so much, i was never able to properly express her my love to her with words, but i think i was by my actions. a time when i was a kid and my biggest resposability was just to study for school and cope with the complications of dealing with other kids at school. a completely different world that will never come back but will live forever in my memory until i die.
The best playlist for any Architecture project!
wish i could have began my engineering degree back then when this stuff was fresh, would have blown my mind to simulate what i was learning with newer and newer releases.
