I've rebuilt these walls at least a half dozen times using shack foundations with a garage door entrance... This is clean, while still being "easy", and still vanilla. 10/10 will build next time.
I am about to retake the castle in my current playthrough and this is definitely going to be the build I choose. I knew about the foundation trick but never considered using the barn tileset and incorporating it like that. Nice one! One suggestion I would make for future videos is to only build in daylight or strong light. Its very hard to see what you are doing when it gets dark. I do appreciate it means sleeping your character between sections but it would make the detail much easier to see.🙏
love this entrance you made.. I made it and added a siren that the settlers set off during attacks.. it is connected to the doors on both entrances and will automatically close the doors when they sound the alarm and open them back up when they turn it off..I take pop shots at the mirelurks across the water to cause an attack to test it out.
Glad to see someone else has also seen the combining factors of warehouse, scaffolding and concrete. I've rebuilt the castle walls in previous playthroughs, but never thought of including a building right through the wall; will take into consideration when I reach this place in my current playthrough. =)
That’s a big step up from your original castle build. Well done great use of the space. I almost tried something kind of similar a while back but got frustrated and irritated and scrapped everything.
This is a trip down memory lane. I remember using your original tutorial back in early 2016. How time flies. Also, Castle is probably my favourite settlement to build in. It's always satisfying turning this run down, mirelurk infested area into a thriving settlement with rebuilt walls, shops, refurnished barracks etc. I think I sunk around 3500 hours into F4 😅, majoritiy of which was settlement building. Haven't played in about 4 years, but I'm thinking about picking it up again after the latest update and starting a fresh playthrough 😁
In my steam version, to avoid a multyselection goes up to the sky, it is enough to select first the lone metal pillar and replaceing in the same position one time. after this operation, the multyselection taken by holding the selection button will stay in its place. maybe the same for the other versions.

19:39 - You can fill in this gap if you use the regular concrete floor (found under wood structures). If it won’t snap directly, try adding a shack stairwell to the any of the floors closest to the ground :) It also looks pretty okay because that concrete floor has almost the same colour as the castle walls :)
I use concrete to rebuild my walls, give the castle a bit of a run down look but a little spin to make it look interesting. I am working on a bar and other ideas I never thought of doing in my other gameplays.

Wow that’s a castle. Nice job building. I am playing on PS5 at level 18 and seem to run out of material all the time. I will have to link up Sanctuary with the Castle .
Finally got far enough in the game to do this. It looks great, the only issue I'm having is I only use the conduits for power and that's been a huge fight. Trying to get them close enough to the walls to look like there touching yet getting power to the whole settlement. I got the courtyard set up and am working on the internal areas. I just need to reset the build limit to continue.
Honestly I never settled into the castle, I claimed it via the MM quest line but I didn’t like it. I stationed at Sanctuary til I was ready for the Island. I’ll have to give the castle a try. I like how you did the entrance. Make a nice kill chamber to lock enemies in

Just a heads up. You can definitely move pieces on both the x and y axis. On PS4, it's left bumper and X to move objects vertically. I'm not sure what the button combination is on X box or PC, but they all have it.

I cant do this on PC. I can't place the floors into the ground using pillar trick. It's only allowing me to place the foundations on top of the ground. Do you know why? I know you used Xbox but any tips for PC gamers?
I'm actually on PC, I just use an Xbox controller. I believe I stated in the video, but the build is very tedious. If placement is even only slightly off, the build will not work right. Make sure you've also scrapped everything in the general area that you're trying to build; that way nothing is in your way. I tend to use the "scrapall" command when I start a fresh build. However, DO NOT use that command until you've completed the Old Guns quest from Ronnie Shaw.
I just copied this place piece by piece. Originally came to find a castle wall tutorial and left with a wicked badass warehouse I can trap Preston that goof in, thank the heavens 🎉
The only thing going against the castle is it's non-central location. For me, it's too far east. So I still turn Sanctuary Hills into my western base of operations. I know fast travel is a game mechanic, but if you're utilizing artillery, you'll want to place your cannons in well fortified settlements.
I honestly went straight into this game, thinking like I was on Skyrim. Just killing and doing mission and discovering new areas. Not knowing anything, I just restarted the whole game over at level 31 and so many hours invested, lol damn...
@Cb9611 lol, so do I. I just made bad decisions on it and not knowing later they were important the game. I might, in the near future, replay it again. I loved it. Just still need to learn the mechanics.
The only thing I do not like about the Castle is that you can't clean it up and remove all the debris, or replace the damaged walls. I think you should be able to demolish the damaged portions, use settlers (human power) to dig down and replace the foundations so that the walls can be rebuilt properly. Do not forget that humans built the old forts without machines. They did it by hand, with hand tools, and good planning. No excavators, no tractors or cutting machines to make it easier. All done with hammers, chisels, shovels, picks, blood, sweat and tears.
That's the main thing that's always irked me about The Castle. I may end up using "Scrap Everything" to clean it up more but I prefer to play mostly Vanilla.
@@Cb9611 It is a decent mod, but you have to be careful with the older versions. I've deleted the walls completely once. Also, it doesn't remove all the debris, just most of it. It also doesn't cut the damaged walls straight. Those ugly portions with half built bricks and the slope is still there. I guess the devs only built the castle with damaged portions, and didn't add the two or three sections as removable skins. Short sighted, but the entire game is that way. Medieval Europe had massive castles built by hand, and human powered cranes. I would like to see those elements built into the game. Individual brick blocks, gravel blocks for the filling to absorb the punishment, and the outer layer meant to take the punishment of siege weapons.
There's one thing that always bothered me about using Concrete Blocks to fix the Castle's exterior walls: sometimes, the blocks intrude on the useable space inside the walls, including the access to the "inside" portion of the walls. Does your build suffer from this same problem? You never check to see.
@@Cb9611 I knew it would one day be attacked so going by the boy scout motto "Be prepared" I tried to get as many minutes in there as possible without mods. The nuclear reactor help power the 24 turrets, and lights. The Institute and the Brotherhood didn't have a chance.
Imagine if fallout were live and millions of people could build where ever they wanted but also conquer each other build trade routes ext. Also able to from gang settlements or attack take over or destroy others stuff that would be great
I don't like supports I like everything to float supported by one flight of stairs,this is especially funny looking with the wood structures build and the first pice of big floor with the single flight of stairs
What platform are you using Jay? I’m on Ps5 and have a similar problem, it’s so irritating when controls are not properly assigned by the devs that port games across platforms. Building is one of the joys of games for me, at least it should be a joy!

Yeah, don't let my tone fool you too much. I'm still happy, just not as energetic. Life happens, yah know? I was 18-19 when Fallout 4 first came out and now I'm 27. 2020-2022 were really rough years for me emotionally. But I'm all good now, just more mellowed out.
Think about it. According to the story about Ft. Independence, a mirelurk queen broke the walls, yet the one you fight can't do that. Bethesda really likes it that they force us to build with broken crap.

The castle is one of the most squishiest set on Wednesday is. You can build stuff outside and move them inside the walls

This is such a good build! I wish Bethesda would give FO4 the free cam building option like in FO76, it makes building so much easier.

I used the Vault tech supports and the red end caps,.. and later on replaced some support with a 2x3 overseer room,.. 😋😋😋

Concrete floor triangle for corner. Fiddle and you can get a wall into ground

I actually have a perfect corner on my walls, it's tricky but very possible and looks great.
How do you get to build with concrete? My foundation only comes from hardwood.

You need the Contraptions DLC for Fallout 4 to access the Warehouse structures.

I use the barn build to make a 3 level barracks similar to barracks at Fort McHenry. My castle holds 52 minutemen.
