I'm not sure i agree completely. I prefer my Twin power FD 4000 compared to my Certate LT 4000DC (inshore saltwater). Reeling in larger lures and fish is noticeably easier with the twin power and it feels like it has more cranking power. Also, when i squeeze the rotor on the Certate, it bends really easy. The twin power rotor is rock solid. Certate does feel a tiny bit easier to turn the handle when free spinning (my guess due to the lighter but flimsier rotor), but on the water i find the opposite. In addition the twin power drag sound is a whole lot nicer and line lay is more even, although i haven't noticed any distance differences when casting. Love both reels, so will keep them both.

Tackle junkie here.. I have the 19 Daiwa Certate LT 2500CXH, 3000CHX, and 18 Exist LT 3000CXH, 4000C-D all still brand new unfished no lines. They all are extremely buttery smooth and extremely low inertia cranking. But one thing is that the 2500 size feels a tab bit clunky (still very minimal compare to other brands)when holding the rotor and tapping on the handle. I guess not all reel will be Exist Lt perfect. But Certate Lt 3000 feels tight and smooth just like the my Exist Lt's. I have brand new unused Shimano Stradic 3000's FL, Vanford, Daiwa Ballistic Lt, Ballistic Lt MQ, Pflueger Patriarch XT, and so much more reels. I still use my lower end reels to fish 2500HGCi4+ and Tatula Lt. Some people said , if you ever fish super high-end reels/rods, you'll never go back. Not true.

A few important points, the Twinpower may "feel" rigid due to the metal rotor, but its body and internal design is actually not very rigid at all, the FD only has a metal reel foot, the side plate is actually plastic, and its the plastic half that supports the internals almost like a capsule, which was a massive downgrade from the previous twinpower of which has a fully metal body still with most internals supported in the stronger reel foot. The rigidity downgrades don't stop there, they also took one of the 2 shaft supports out, the 15 and 17 XD had duel metal rods supporting the main shaft completely eliminating any internal movement, the FD however has only 1 and if you put your hand on the spool and move It from side to side you will actually feel the main shaft along with the rotor moving.... The aim I think was to make the FD the lightest and 'nicest' of the smaller twin powers yet through new design elements, and in doing so they took the opportunity to save money, the reel feels nicer and more "rigid" than what it replaced (due to the metal rotor) but in reality it is no where near as strong as the 15 TP, just something I thought you may find interesting... The Certate LT is absolutely leaps and bounds stronger and more rigid than the TP FD, put a metal rotor on the Certate LT and the thing would feel like a Swiss watch haha (though I prefer the Zaion rotor it has as it give that beautiful light rotational feel (inertia))... Just 1 more thing, I think you meant Stella FJ, not sw haha, the SW is the big fish version😉

@@shore-moneyfishing1939 Yea plastic side plate in the FD and the first twinpower in decades that isn't based off the Stella, instead shimano developed a "mid tier" platform which reels from Stradic FL to 19 Vanquish are all based on, including the TP FD, where as previously the twinpowers vanquishes ect were all based directly on the Stella and the Stradic was a much cheaper build, now though the Stradic and TP are the same general platform and share many parts. Don't get me wrong, the TP FD is a great reel I have 2 and use them extensively and enjoy them, but the reality is it is just the Stradic FL with a metal rotor better tolerances and more fancy body sculpting, if you wanted to get more specific of course you could point out that it has a few more bearings a nicer sounding drag and is "assembled" in Japan (doesnt actually have much made in Japan just assembled there for a higher standard of quality control)... All in all, a great reel, but is it worth double the price of the reel its based on(Stradic FL)? Not a chance...

    • @cozab5487
      @cozab5487 3 года назад +2

@@bestthingsinceslicedrice For heavier styles of fishing the TP FD is definitely better than the Vanford, its essentially like taking a Stradic FL and giving it a metal rotor better quality control slightly higher level of refinement and much better tolerances and comparing it with the Vanford for an idea, for finesse fishing though the Vanford is still the better option.

From owning a Daiwa Bg to the Stradic FL then going to the Vanford and now Daiwa Certate LT.
In my opinion, save yourself the hassle and spend extra money to buy the Daiwa Certate LT.
This reel is on a whole different level, plus dont fall for Shimano's marketting gimick like the X-Protect and the Long stroke spool.
Dont get me wrong. I am no fanboy of any brand but based on my experience, I accidentally dunked my Stradic FL and saltwater came inside even tho it was only for a few seconds, so the x-protect feature to me felt like it was worthles. Then as for the Long Stroke Spool that Shimano claims that allows you to have longer casting distance. Well when I casted the Certate LT side by side against my Vanford.
The Certate casted further compared to my Vanford and best of all, the Certate is way smoother and had no reeling sound compared to the Vanford.
So by the end of the day. To me the Daiwa Certate maybe more expensive but its a one time buy.

The Daiwa Certate LT was smoother, has lower start up inertia and i find it more refined when I fished it side by side against the new Twin Power Xd.
The only redeeming feature I see that the Twin Power has against the Certate LT is that its simple to maintain.

I was debating about getting these same 3 Shimano reels myself too (Stradic FL, Vanford, Twin Power FD) and will stick with Daiwa based on your comments here as, I too believe any of the newer Daiwa Monocoque Reels are better, stronger, and smoother as I will pick up a Certate 4000D-C soon but for the molment I just picked up a Daiwa BG MQ 3000 for light Inshore/Surf and this (Large Zinc Geared) Reel is pretty ridiculously smooth out of the box and feels Rock Solid although it is heavier than a Certate LT4000D-C I will give it a shot for Light Inshore/Surf

Depends what you mean by "UL" fishing - 4-6lb fluoro I would probably go with Vanquish, that is Shimano's high end "ultralight" reel...but, I would expect a revamp on the Vanquish this year or next, so maybe you want to wait for the new models. But if physical weight of the reel isn't an issue, the Certate has the smoothest drag I've ever experienced, and that is important for UL fishing and light lines. The Luvias Airity is probably the direct competitor to the Vanquish, and a better value before the new Vanquish comes out anyway. I don't think you can go wrong with Certate, Vanquish, Luvias Airity for any freshwater fishing.

@@marcussturgeon7151 There's more nuance to it since the C shimanos are usually 1 spool size up on the same body, and then you have the non-compact MHG models which is a size down in spool ie 3000mhg is a 4k body with a 3k spool, not to mention all the shallow spool models you find in the JDM sphere. Also consider gear size - Daiwa monocoque bodies will squeeze in a significantly larger gear set than its Shimano counterpart. Slower ratios will stay smoother longer, and we find 5:1 spinning reels more than fast enough to pick up slack. The other reason is slower ratios are much more versatile if you ever use it for moving presentations like counting down a swimbait or bucktail and swimming it horizontally - much easier to keep a slow steady wind with a lower gear ratio reel.

Waiting for my certate 2600xh to arrive...expectations are high given my shimano FL has gone thru service with all bearings changed and holly molly it is so much smoother than I remembered and yes I really hope the certate hype is real.

I like the worm gear oscillation with better line lay and I like the feel of it as you wind it. Its not as smooth but just feel more direct connection with lures. I like daiwas line roller better. the shimanos line rollor some time the line rolls up higher then it should be in that small groove. Daiwas got more of an edge were the line runs and its better.I line shimanos bail wire better to.Daiwas drag kick ass amazing smooth.

Line lay is the only thing Shimano has over Daiwa now, and it's much closer than before.

@@hownowbrowntrouttasmania7389 for sea fishing 10 kg fish there is no comparison. Certate is wildly superior

My Penn Fierce 3 and slammer has better line lay then my certate lt.The certate hasn't caught any massive fish and I've used it for 50 hours of casting catching small trout and its not as nice to wined now as it was new.

Sure you can - the drag, the torque, everything feels better on a better reel.
