For those of you wondering where I got these from, I ordered and received these three mudskippers from AquariumFishSale.com. The staff was very helpful and friendly when I called, and said that I could call back anytime with more questions.
Hi Zenzo, great video. I got my Mudskippers from AquariumFishSale.com, too. I originally ordered the Indian Mudskippers over the weekend before New Years, but since they were out of stock, they offered to sub the African Mudskippers for no upgrade charge. I also ordered CPDs and Emerald Dwarf Rasbora in the same order. All the fish arrived in great shape, packaged well and healthy. Aquariumfishsale.com is great and I will order from them again! I also tried ordering Indian Mudskippers from Arizona Aquatic Gardens, but after a month of waiting (and their website saying they were in stock that entire time), I gave up and cancelled my order with them. I was at least happy they didn't send the other items on the same order since I asked them not to in the comments on the order (fiddler crabs and a banana plant), and I did get them to respond once by text (never answered the phone or email), but that was the only good part of the transaction. I also still don't have my refund and started a dispute with my cc company. I hope you don't mind me sharing my full experience. Btw, you should totally get some bumblebee gobies to go in on the puffer side. I ordered some from The Wet spot last week and they are awesome little fish! They'll be going in with my FIgure 8 puffer once they're out of quarantine and the salinity in my puffer tank is high enough.
There is a (949) on their website that you can call. To be fair, they have been receiving a lot of calls lately because of my videos. Try them in the afternoon. I’m sure they will answer.
The mudskippers are so stinkin' cute, seeing them always makes me think...hmmmm, I have that space out in the enclosed porch...I could justify getting a new tank.
I'm so glad Shemp is doing well! I was worried about him. The conditions he arrived in was horrific I'm shocked he survived. He looked like he spent a month in that bag, poor thing. Can't wait to get to see all four skips together.
Wooooow, it's coming along so nicely! Looking good! Glad the new one is doing okay so far, can't wait to see him added to the others! My snails distracted my halfway through the video. They're usually on the tank walls so I get excited when they're exploring the ground and decor. Then I decided to get a (literal) midnight snack of carrots and ranch dressing, got the idea to add a piece of carrot in front of one of the snails, and watched it discover it. Then I grabbed my DSLR camera to try to film it. I've only used the filming function once I think, two years ago, to record a moth emerging from a cocoon (which it sadly got stuck in and died). Then I finished the video. Snail is still chowing down on the carrot piece 20 minutes later.
Thanks for making all these videos with lots of info. Mudskippers are so awesome! I really want to set up a mudskipper tank one day. And it is really cool that the puffer has his name on his back.
Great vid. You have a new sub too :). Just a suggestion: when mixing the brackish water you could just find out how much salt you need per gallon of freshwater to reach the desired salinity by gradually adding salt and mixing rather than mixing to 1.022 and adding freshwater back to get where you want. It is really the same thing, however, this might help to prevent mixing too much brackish water and will only take one step.
Yes, I did try that. The issue I have is that if I’m going to change like 15 gallons or so of water, I’d have to premix and store the brackish water, and then make sure that I only drain out 15 gallons. Maybe I the future I’ll setup a 30 gallon storage bin filled with pre-made brackish water to make things more simple. Thanks for the comment, and thank you for subscribing!
LOL you owe me 150 bucks next time I see you I had to have some after I watched your video in the African MudSkippers and had to have them just kidding thanks man onenofnmy FAVORITE fish of all my tanks ....
What are the dimensions of that Fish Tube shirt frame? Also, where did you get that shirt? Think they will be at Aquashella in Dallas this March? Thanks bro!
The Fish Tube sign is a poster that we were all signing for fans at the Aquatic Experience last year. I had a few of my friends and fellow RUclipsrs sign mine. I will be at Aquashella on the Saturday event. I think we will have more posters available that we will be signing.
Hi. Once again an interesting video. You do 'bang on' a little bit though. I don't beleive any Bumblebee Goby will be eaten, I was told a few years ago that the colour (notice the CORRECT spelling of 'colour'? 😊) puts others off as it's a warning colour, true or not I can't say 100%. Thanks from here in the U.K (England).
I miss my figure 8 puffer it had purple eyes have not seen another one like it acted like a dog got all excited when I got home I hand-fed him it was in a smaller tank with the hang on back filter with no strainer on the intake for years put him in a bigger tank put that filter in there to cycle the tank and what do you know that poor thing got sucked up in my filter very sad hard lesson to learn
The people that bitched about gas formations in the sand have never owned a tank. It's one of the rarest things to ever happen in the hobby. And if it does happen, you weren't cleaning enough.
I had my spouse interested.... right up until you said the "w" word🤣 I don't understand why people have so many misunderstandings about anaerobic process, it eliminates nitrates from the water. A few plants with roots deep in the substrate prevent the majority of off gassing. What do people think happens outside 🤔
I had the same sort of thing I got mud slippers and a puffer and they put them in the same bag and the puffer killed the mud skippers the puffer was fine and one skipper was alive but had holes in him and died a few days later his two legs where missing and an eye
It was in water slightly more salty than fresh, as I was preparing to do this. It started as a sponge in fresh water, and I upped it a little bit while continuing to feed the filter. It was fine.
I don't get it. Why do you dissolve salt to make saltwater and then mix it with fresh water to make brakish? Why not just dissolve the salt in fresh water till you get the desired, brakish salinity? Is just like boiling water, than mixing it with cold water to get warm water! Just heat up to desired temp in the first place! uheuehuehueh
Because it takes hours (mixed) to a day or two to fully dissolve the salt. If you just pour salt into fresh water, it won’t be at the right salinity for like two days.
@@TazawaTanks Dude, what kind of salt do you use? I used to use seachem's one back when a still had my reef and it would take just a couple of minutes for the salinity to stabilize and a couple of hour for the salt to fully mix (by fully mix, i mean for the water to became crystal clear again). Do you use a pump for mixing? A used to use a 2000l/h (~700g/l?) in a 100l (~30g) container for water mixing. Maybe its that that makes the difference?

Thanks for sharing Kristi! My only concern with the bumblebee gobies is that the mudskippers might eat them.

That is awesome that Po's name is right on the back.
You forgot to mention all the love you give them. That's is the most important care factor is see here.
I love the puffer's new name! I totally didn't notice the PO spelled out on his back; too cute. :)
Po, the Dragon Warrior, and the Furious Four. I love it.
He needs to get a fifth mudskipper and rename them the Furious Five!
I never noticed! "Po" is perfect...LOL Shemp is looking good as well. Great save.
Thanks so much for the update. This is my favorite tank to watch.

Zenzo ....the Three Stooges and Po...look very happy in their home that you created. ...you are a great Dad !
I'd like this a thousand times myself if RUclips would let me! Great informative video! I'm so happy little Shemp is doing well.
Ooh I like the plants!
Adds a little color to the tank
Dope video! I'm now less intimidated to to brackish haha. Also digging the LRB poster!
I'm so glad that you made this video I'm going to be setting up a brackish water tank for mollies and guppies fish this spring
Tank is looking great. Nice vid.
its a good environment for po no stairs

Yesssss this is a long awaited video!
Thanks, i love mudskippers and this vid was really helpfull.
Liking the plants. The tank looks really good.#gainzforshemp
I’m thinking about keeping the same fish set up. Great video! How do you do water changes?
Dylan Martin The same as any other tank. Just drain water out with a siphon or a pump and pour water back in.
LOL you owe me 150 bucks next time I see you I had to have some after I watched your video in the African MudSkippers and had to have them just kidding thanks man onenofnmy FAVORITE fish of all my tanks ....
How do you keep that thick layer of sand from stinking up? I can do whatever I want, it'll start stinking in no time.
Great update, Thanks
Love the name!!
Thank you for the video! As always awesome video and keep it up! Just wish you would show the process of mixing brackish water. Meaning more in depth.
All it is, is basically me standing on a ladder and pouring in salt water from that container while a hose is filling with fresh water.
Great video, I wish you would show more of the tank while you talk though...
Great video bro I love your Channel
Best thing to wake up to
Thks for sharing..
Great video bro .which automatic food dispenser you recommend thanks
I think the Eheim one is probably the best.
@@TazawaTanks thanks buddy
For beginners like me, what should I do. I from Malaysia..
Thinking about a peapuffer myself..we just added a mud puppy to our black water tank .. a different one from this one here ..
The beauty of brackish water is you don't have to be right on with your salinity. It's a good stepping stone to a full marine setup.
I've had similar Mudskippers and one got to 9 inches long. I don't see them being offered at those sizes anymore.
Hi Tazawa
I've got mudskippers along with archers, could u pls link me to vid of how to care for them. Thnx
Watch my Brackish playlist.

Don't know if you are aware (probable are) but you can feed Puffers Shrimp, mussles & scallops.

Are you going to try to mimic tidal conditions somehow by raising and lowering the water level?
No. I’m just leaving it at a static depth.
How do you compensate for the increasing salinity of the tank as water evaporates? Or is it not an issue?
It’s not really an issue because of the tight fitting lids. I hardly get any evaporation from the brackish tank.
Thanks for the quick reply. You have me wanting to do a mud skipper tank.
Tazawa Tanks
Thanks again!! More great info.
Nice one

LOL! Does "bang on" mean I talk too much? Thanks for watching all the way from the U.K. I love my U.K. audience!
Tazawa Tanks Yes it does! 😉. I deliberately used that term assuming a Yank wouldn't know what it means. 😄
Good video
👍🏻👍🏻 Awesome 😎
How deep is area for puffer
Nice
I'm early! :D Nice video yet again!

I am sorry. That is sad.
Do you need to mist mudskippers
No, just a well-fitting lid.
The people that bitched about gas formations in the sand have never owned a tank. It's one of the rarest things to ever happen in the hobby. And if it does happen, you weren't cleaning enough.
can they live on freshwater?
Yes, but they do better in salinity.
For some reason the decoration in the water made me completely not recognize this tank. You should totally add tons of macroalgae or something
Great name :) :)

How did you cycle the tank?
With an existing sponge filter I had running.
@@TazawaTanks Was the existing sponge from a fresh water tank? would the bacteria survive and thrive in a brackish water tank?
It was in water slightly more salty than fresh, as I was preparing to do this. It started as a sponge in fresh water, and I upped it a little bit while continuing to feed the filter. It was fine.
@@TazawaTanks Thank you Zenzo.
mudskipper species?
African mudskippers.
do u know the Latin name for your mudskippers?
Periophthalmus I believe. Still trying to nail down the exact subspecies.
I want a puffer
Taylor Hudgins aren’t they aggressive
@@itstony5076 I think there nippy but some of the bigger puffers like mbu puffers are not to aggressive
But normally not good community fish
Russell Dzugas Bumblebee gobies are also brackish water fish and green scat too. But after he put the puffer in, I gave up my ideas.
Aren't mudskippers territorial?
A little bit. Similar to cichlids or other goby species.
👍💪
#skippergainz lol
These are Indian mudskippers right?!
Also are you not worried about the puffer trying to eat the mudskippers?
No its Do
