Good boots with solid soles will solve your foot peg problem, as well as protect you when you go down. I never have multiple keys on my bike. Just the key and a large soft key chain so I don't lose it. Dude, get some gear!
@@TheHoodieStore , I removed them from my SM because my foot kept slipping off. The KLX has some of the smallest pegs I have ever had on a bike.
The gas gauge is your odometer. Set it the 0 when you fill up and when you get close to 100 miles you fill up. You usually have to flip it on reserve at 80 miles.
I have this exact bike and agree with this assessment! Uncorking the bike with a slip-on, an air box mod, and a fuel commander is in order. A 300cc 4-stroke isn't designed to win drag races but this bike rocks in the twisties in stock form and as you can see from the video is a hoot on the trails! A few mods and I think you will love it!
Me too.
Great video. When experiencing crosswinds, I’d recommend sticking ur knee out in the direction the wind is coming from. Ur knee will act as a sail and give you some more balance/ control on the bike.
Agreed, I’ve done this many times.
Agree with most things. Gas gauge and 2 gallon tank are my biggest gripes.
I have a 2021 300SM.
I do really love the bike, it performs and what it encompasses as a whole is very comfortable and reliable.
That being said, it's not gonna be like riding a 400-450cc or larger bike.
But can and will it go everywhere? Yes.
Can you reach speeds between 65-75 mph, perhaps faster? Yes.
Reliable, easy to use and a blast to ride?
Yes. Yes. & Yes.
You might try a quick release double key ring with the KLX key on the one ring by itself. This lets you keep the rest of the keys safe and out of the way. I do this as I hate my keys rattling on the triple clamp.
Nice videos about the little details. Ive been debating either the KLX 250, KLX 300, or a TW200 for my first bike.
I just ordered Yamaha XT 250.They have been making that model since 1980
We have 3 tw200 we use for herding cows they make great running around the farm very easy to ride and use on the farm
TDub great for trails . Is like a mule but if on hi ways..limited top end.
TW with chug along all day. It’s a good 1st bike but has 2 major drawbacks. It’s heavy and has little suspension.
I’d go with the air-cooled XT250 as a starter.
I had a KLX250 before and while I LOVE that platform because it fits me just perfect and it was a hoot on trails, the lack of power had me shifting gears waaay too often. So I sold it and bought a DRZ400. Yes, it's about 10 kg heavier and not as easy on the trails, but the massive torque more than makes up for it.
May spring for a KLX300 in the future though
I used to have a DRZ400 and yeah, they have plenty of power!
Hey man! I haul my klx 250 up and let her eat in 2nd,3rd, and 4th! She loves to wheelie. Just decork, open up the Airbox , and change sprockets! The bike will love the back wheel. You have to muscle it up a little in 3 and a lot if your clutching up in 4. But I can easily haul her up in 2&3 and shift through ever gear on the back wheel!
Kick ass video! Love the deep water
Suggest some boots, gloves, and something more substantial than a T shirt. I get 70-74mpg on my 2023 KLX when I am FLOGGING it on fire roads and jeep trails. 2 gallons gives me 140-150 mile range with the fuel light coming on at 98-105 miles. Reset either the A or B tripmeter when filling up. That’s your gas gauge. As the miles on the trip meter increases, the fuel remaining decreases. Its pretty easy.
Who doesn't want a little more power out of their machines? Mark Donohue once said he wouldn't have enough power until his Can-Am car could spin its tires in top gear all the way down the longest straights. That was when the Porsche engineers asked him if 1100 horsepower was enough.
Very true haha
You're being picky but you have the right to be, that is what made it one of the best reviews I have seen great job!!
Love that terrain! How’s the clutch feel?
couldn't stand the weak power of the klx300, so I sold it after 1 month! bought a DR650, now I'm happy.....massive wheelies in all of the gears!! no replacement for displacement!!
They're also way heavier than this bike for what it's made for. Crf450L is better than a dr650se. The dr650se is basically an adventure bike.
@@TheGamersRace adventure, single track, wheelie power, highway cruiser and more! 650 or go home!
@@jasonlawrence8302 I had a 650, it sucked ass compared to my 125 2t. 650 was a slow heavy pig only good for commuting, but then why not got a real commuting bike.
@@TheGamersRace nothing beats a 125 smoker unless it's a 250 smoker! 650 in the right hands can be a very fast ride!! not a bush pig unless you can't ride! LOL when you need mo powa move on from the little KLX! it is a good little bike though ;-)
@@jasonlawrence8302 Dr650 is slow, heavy, and you can't jump it without blowing the suspension out. The dr650 is only good for the road, and some dry packed roads. Instead of getting a slow bike not really good at any particular thing, I'll keep my street bike and offroad bike separate.
Totally agree man.. all my bike has gear indicator. i just wish kawasaki put one.i will pay extra money for gear indicator and fuel gauge or even ABS brake front only.
Foot pegs, I'm in Thailand my flip flops fit fine
Consider yourself lucky my 2009 and most klxs have no gas warning! I’ve had it run out and catch it sputter and flick to reserve in time. But I was flying down the highway at 130 and she ran out, no indicators… it felt and sounded like I sent the rod through the bottom end I was perplexed on the side of the highway till I said lemme try the reserve and she fired right up.
Being pushed around in the wind is normal. There is a stretch of highway here where the crosswind forces me to lean into the wind or I'll be blown off lol. That's on a Suzy GS500F. Which is a few hundred pounds heavier than the dual sports.
At least no issues reported yet with this new Kawa 300.. whereas the Honda 300 sees some reports of Euro 5 per-ignition, cam chain tensioner, overheating 🥵 or paint job issues
You’ll love it with a full pipe. My 300r after the pc slip on was and is a completely different animal now.
Funny you say that I just ordered a slip on today, deff excited for it!
@@NolanRides if you installed it..does it feel like it has more power or is it just in your head? Lol
Did you get the new foot pegs? Are you happy with them? Where did you find them?
Yes I did get some and like them a lot better! They are these ones amzn.to/3CeqNzN
@@NolanRides Thanks! I just ordered them!
Good stuff. I hate the mirrors on mine and it needs a tail tidy.
Good info and Overview 😁👍
As an "entry-level" bike, it would be nice to have that shift indicator. I agree, once you know the bike, it becomes less important.. great review...
I love my 2021 KLX300DS...but wtf is Kawasaki thinking by not putting a gas guage on this bike. It doesn't make.any senses. I bought mine slightly used (only 200km on it it) so, it wasn't a deal breaker...but really...what were they thinking?
Great vid. You did admit to being “nit pickie”. The title almost scared me to death but none of your complaints are dealbreakers. I’m gettin older, not ancient yet, but I think I should rule out 40mph wheelies. My hog has a gas gauge and it’s pretty much ignored until the lite anyway. Blowing on the highway, its the downside of a lite bike. Keys, yep awkward but I will keep it on its own ring. Really like the video! And I think I will really like the bike.
Forget to mention your video scared me cuz I have one on order. Hard to get anything with the vy russ.
@@JohnFrytag I have one on order too, title scared me as well! lol. How are you liking the bike?
1. Stock mirrors are stupid.
2. No gear reader on display.
3. Pea shooter exhaust needs to go.
4. I swapped to a 13 tooth front, makes a world of difference with pickup. Lose maybe 5 mph off the top speed but I never take it on the highway anyway.
I'm not pickin' on you, serious question - what do you need a fear display for? I see that a lot, seems like the engine RPM's are all that really matters. Again, just curious how people would use that display.
I don’t care about gear selector but a fuel gauge would be nice as would a tachometer. I have neither on my DRZ400 so I use the trip meter to track fuel and the reserve on the tank for backup and listen to the engine for RPMs...I have what’s most important, low end torque and power compared to the 250s/300s.
stock foot pegs and head lamp are lame but the gas gauge SUCKS!!!!.....but this bike rocks and I'll never sell mine.
I'd like to see an ADV version with a large rear rack and a 4+ gallon fuel tank.
I carry my key on a stainless clip on my key ring. I remove the bike key so it's the only key in the bike's ignition when I ride.
It seems that your last two complaints are rhe inevitable consequence of physics for lightweight 300cc bikes in general.
I like that Kawasaki offers this bike in grat camo. I'm not a fan of Kawasaki day glow green or Honda racing red.
The fuel range keeps me away. I would buy it if the aftermarket offered a reliable 200 mile range. People always say "Rotopax" or similar, but those are my answers when I need more the 200 miles.
@@blakeberlin6295 - My G310GS consistently provides a 200 mile range on the road. I don't ride highways, where it would be a bit worse. That's my only real complaint about the baby GS. Instead of a 2.9 gallon tank, it should have had a 5+ gallon tank. I'll get a 1.75 gallon Rotopax to carry under my bags on the rear rack when traveling in western states, but it really bugs me having to pack extra fuel. It's a needless hassle. Even though I already have my baby GS, I'm still hoping that BMW will make an Adventure version. The fuel tank would probably be $400+ but I'd likely buy one to get another gallon or more of fuel without carrying an external fuel bottle. An adventure bike should have at least a 300 mile range, although longer range is an advantage for a city commuter bike. Who likes stopping so often for fuel?
Spot on observation about the foot pegs ----- way too short. Can you tell us which aftermarket pegs you plan to put on the bike?
These are the pegs I got that just came in the mail today amzn.to/3rI4uwh will probably be putting them on tmrrw but from first looking at them they seem real good quality actually.
dude. that area you took a ride in was beautiful
The wind, thanx for the laugh🤣. Spit my coffee. Good video. 👍
a 650 or 450 version like this would be nice. some real power.
Which bike is better for beginners. The Honda 300 l or the Kawasaki 300? Keep in mind I’m a bigger guy 5’11 and 240lbs of all American chunk. Lmao or would I better off learning on something bigger. I really like the TW 200 but I don’t think that thing will be big enough to get me through the woods. I will mostly be off road only on streets to get to trails
I haven’t rode the 300l but personally I think both the 300l and klx300 are good options, dont think you can go wrong with either bike!
the honda suspension will be too soft, i have the klx 300 i'm 230lbs, my friend has the honda 300, he is 195, my suspension is fine, my klx is more nimble on the trails, than the honda, if money is not a problem, get the ktm 350 or 500 in a four stroke. but i love my klx
OMG, stop your whining dude. I got this bike and it is so freaking awesome. Try focusing on something positive, this bike AMAZING!!!
Aye, this is a two part video, the classic 5 things I love/hate duo. They really pull the ideas out of their asses if they have to, it's useful information about the bike nonetheless. This info will actually help the bike get more sought after since the data is being put out there, and you can plan to modify it in advance.
Ordered mine can’t wait!
congrats
Get it yet?
@@zaidumar7168 Yeah I’ve had it for a couple months, runs great
@@acewarrior55k38 congrats!..I have a deposit on a 2022,couldn't find a 21 anywhere,..still no date, but I'm locked in!
Some dual-sports are more punchy....but also cost $3000+ more!
If there was a dealership near me, i would definitely get the Husqvarna 701 supermoto. And if they weren't so maintenance intensive (oil change / valve checks every few hours), i would also get a Beta 400 or 500 motorcycle.
The venerable Suzuki DRZ400 has way more torque and power and even with just 5 gears cruises the freeway much easier and faster and isn’t $3000+ more.
love the riding gear
Skinny pants and loafers, lol
@@noelleonard2498 hey i cant say anything iv done the same thing or worse lol. Liked the video. I would love to be young again and so some dirt riding..😂
Tried out the 300SM today. No off road version available. I don’t know if the SM is geared different, but definitely not the power I was thinking it might have. But it is much better than the 250. I’ve owned a couple different 250’s, and the 300 is a much better improvement.
What is your height and weight? I am 6'2" 205. Wondering about bottoming out the suspension at my size
i'm 6 ft 230, have not bottomed my 2021 klx 300 out yet
@@jasonledbetter6324 I’m 5 foot 9 at 230 you think it will haul my ass a round just fine?
What Pegs did you put on? Are most pegs compatible with most bikes?
These ones amzn.to/3sAGrAl make sure to select ones for klx250 300, it looks like only green may be in stock now but look at related items, I’m actually not too sure if most pegs are universal fit or not
Great video, but gear indicator?????
Nearly gave the bike a proper submerging there, nice save.
I've a crf250l , and the pegs are the same. First bike ever I'm going to change the pegs on. Had a great moment yesterday, when I stomped all my weight on it, but it wasn't it. It was the back brake.
Bike looks great, not available to us in the UK though, or I'd be considering one.
I have the same issue getting the key Into mine at first too!! Your not alone
I have the KLX300SM and it’s the same issue with the key and it doesn’t have a crossbar on the handlebars like the DS.
Two of my bikes bikes don’t have a fuel ⛽️ gauge but it’s no biggie after a few rides you get an idea of what range the bike will do and most fuel gauges are very inaccurate anyway.
Yup I use the trip meter on my DRZ and I always have the reserve on the tank
With the Kawi you just need a watch. An hour and a half till empty.
For those that want a fuel gage and a gear indicator got out get the Honda 300l then spend 1500 on new suspension
Most of your complaints if fixed by Kawi would raise the price which is one of its best features
Dude, get bar risers...You will thank me later..Much better riding position especially when standing...Also, the hideous rear fender extension...Get a tail tidy and it will make it look alot better....I have a video of it on my channel...Have you ever ridden the Suzuki DRZ400s? It's a torquey beast...
I had a KLX250 and drz400, sold the KLX. I kinda regret it sometimes because the KLX felt so much lighter and was easier in tight stuff, but the power was hard to argue with.
I'm sure no matter which bike I sold I'd have had regrets, but I definitely find myself picking up the DRZ from naps more often. I'm thinking about moving to a KLX300 lol.
You are right about nit picking.
Look forward to the 5 things you like. Are you going to uncork????
Thank you and I do have a few things in the mail that should help with uncorking haha
@@NolanRides Cool looking forward to it.
What state are you in bro?
Ha! I have the same key issue! My CRF250L was the same exact way. The foot pegs have def got to go. What’s #3 gonna be???
Great bike. Cheap ,light, upgradable.
I have the KLX 300 R dirt bike and the foot pegs are also tiny. Sucks for standing up on the bike
It really does, my new ones came in today so we will see how they do.
I put a set of pivot pegz on my Klx300 and I love them, for some reason the stock pegs seemed to be angled slightly backwards on my bike.
I just got a 23. Great bike!
4:16 if you "boyz" complain about the gear indicator, maybe you should get your mama on the back seat to wipe your nose off
Biggest complaint I have with this bike is the 2 gallon tank. What are some of the mold to get more power out of it?
Better exhaust is a big one.
I agree with the key. I don’t have any other keys on mine and it’s awkward inserting the key.
That gage display is way advanced then the drz or the crf
Is this a gas/oil mixture
I like it for a city putt and trail exploring bike
50cc isn't a huge difference in power?🤔 Imagine that. Every bike ever made comes with small footpegs, it's a moot point at this stage Im tired of guys whining about. Big foot pegs catch stumps and roots, thats why they come small. How far are you trying to push your luck with gas? I mean half a gallon indicator... time to stop at the next station.🤷 I feel like the only person who appreciates not overcomplicating things adding more crap to go wrong and cost you. They put it where it counts on these bikes, you get more power than the Honda and an actual suspension.
Gud lookin bro i thought dat at first but appreciate dat🇵🇷💥
I have no other keys on my bike keys, wears all the paint off your bars
Yeah I need a key tag!
💯
I got a klx230 I’m worried it’s not gonna have enough power or do you think I’m over reacting
The bike is 5.5k
That's about the gist of it.
Even if you spent $10k+ on any other dual sport there would still be nick picking.
I have a gas guage on my 2020 klx230.
What kind of swamps you ride in there?
I'm debating between the 230 and this.. how you liking your 230
I'd go with the 230, it's simpler, lighter, cheaper to buy and maintain, and almost as strong as the 300.
That's what I'm leaning towrds
I’d say the pinkie sized exhaust hole is my least favorite thing about my klx300
Very true haha
Why do they make them so high, it stops me from buying
Have you taken any hard slams yet?
she needs alot more power!! those 1st gear wheelies are OK but 2nd gear takes an aerial scientist to get it up LOL!
I can do second gear wheelies fine I can just get the wheel up in third but can’t hold it
I can do second gear wheelies fine I can just get the wheel up in third but can’t hold it
Thinking of going from a drz400sm to this with the expecting the power to be similar, not sure if you have any like comparison information
Not the same power as the DRZ, you would be disappointed......
@@fastdude2002 I confirm! I own a DRZ400SM and have both KLX300 and SM on hand right now for a test ride. The KLX have qualities but they don't have the same power as the DRZ...
Actually I've heard they aren't that far apart on power, but the drz has way more torque down low in the rpm's
Can you tour on this how is the comfort or stiffness of suspension?
LOL....!!! NITPICKIN!! 4REAL...
I ride a 2002 HONDA XR250 & I've got no speedometer, not to mention a gas indicater or gear indicator ( not sure why anyone would ever need that . That's something u feel ) & I'm fine on the road ( or dirt ) Plus I gotta say that each & every time I ride anywhere, I have protective riding boots ,gloves & always a helmet on. So my feet are pretty much glued to the foot pegs. If u don't have boots on , riding any motorcycle, then you've got no business riding. In my humble opinion. So yeah your basically riding a Cadillac bro... Plus u even have electric freakin start!...LOL... Im kickin' only...
But honestly I'm not bustin your balls man. I just watched your video & was thinking to myself , W.H.A.T?
This dude is riding in style..!!!
Just had to let u know.
Plus I've been checking out the Kawasaki 300 for maybe my next bike to buy pretty soon. Everything I've watched on it is all really positive stuff. So , could be.
Keep riding & STAY SAFE ! 🤘
I get nervous sseing you ride with no hand and arm protection. As for power try a 52 tooth rear sprocket makes a world of difference at higher speed. Yhe final gearing is thus due to noise reatrictions at 60mph .Lower rpm equals less noise.
Does it have keyless entry?
Should have a gear indicator for sure.
Why?
I have a yammie xt250 its similar fun, I might kick it down to my wife and get one of these but may go with the supermoto cause I find myself on the street more than I thought...
If history is an indication you might want to buy the SM soon. I missed out getting one in 2011 because they only made the in 2009 - 2010 coinciding with release of the new KLX250S. In 2011 the only ones I could find were 10 hours away. I ended up with a 2012 dual sport. Sold it in '18, and recently picked up the KLX300SM in ebony/lime green.
@@Dave-sw2dm how do you like it
I went from an Xt250 to 2022 klx300, haven't regretted it yet. XT250 was a great bike though, still have it 👍. Just wish the fuel tank was bigger on the KLX.
Can you put supermoto tires on this?
The Honda has fuel and gear indicator. I also would like to see what you think of it after changing pipes and adding the power commander. There's another guy on RUclips with videos about it and he said it added way more power, also made his exhaust cooler.
Strong side wind affects all bikes to a degree.
congrats on your 300 i want one for the boss it will be next year for ours but we did just score a 21 BRP and shes sickkkkk !!!! enjoy the night and keep chasing #livetoride
Please wear the appropriate foot wear turkey..
No Nike socks. Wouldn't have to pick your feet up. 😉
Kawasaki can't release bike such as these "uncorked" and stay passing the require emission standards to be sold as street legal machines. Biggest complaint with the Honda CRF450RL.
Unfortunately gonna have to get a full exhaust, eco flash, smog/emissions delete to get this gains.
Sorry had to say it junior...
Some things I don't like no gear indicator also no fuel gauge.
not even gas gauge? that sucks
Kawasaki wielded the handlebars shut. So you have to drill to get full handguards on.
Pro Taper, my dude.
This or the Honda?
You like farkles or suspension? Honda has better tech and aftermarket, KLX has much better suspension.
what the heck are those big round cement things that you ride by ?
I think it's a sewer right of way?
Lack of power doesn't matter near as much as other factors, the team red crf300 dual sport sucks balls on suspension and the stock klx300 suspension is way better than a tiny bit more power or a tiny bit more convenience farkles unless you weigh 100lbs or don't mind spending another 500-600-1000 dollars on suspension then get the klx 300
You are allowed to only hate 4 things about your bike before you are required to sell it.
how tall are you
NO BARK BUSTERS?
I thought those ROW's looked familiar, then I saw you come out to the graveyard! G-Vegas baby! Have you seen the abandoned homeless camp back there?
Don’t think I’ve seen the homeless camp!
@@NolanRides it's huge, I think the last hurricane made them abandon it. It looks like a whole community of people lived back there. From the looks of your video, you had to have been all over it and just didn't see it. They hid it well in the woods, but several paths lead to it. Love your bike btw. I work with GUC and hope to find a 300 in stock at Ron Ayers soon. Maybe we can get together.
@@dsdahustla Yeah man hit me up on instagram nolan.rides, and I swear I saw they got another camo one few days ago!
@@NolanRides damn! Ryan was supposed to call me of they got anything. I'll have to call. Thanks.
You can't do much about number 5 with that type of machine other than changing your diving technique when that happens.
You have to make up your mind. Are they things you dislike, or things you hate? Those two words don't mean the same thing.
They should have changed the design or give it something to differ from the 250
I have a Klx 250s and I have the same problem with the keys 🤣
Hey ill buy it from you and pay a little more then what its worth. Im serious, i cant find one and i am dead set on it.
