You would have been better putting the Rhododendron and Camellia in Ericaceous compost they are an acid-loving plant they prefer a soil pH of about 5.5 .My favourite plants

The longer days & lighter nights have finally arrived. I love to get in the garden & enjoy the plants that I've grown. It's exciting to pot plants & create a beautiful place to sit & enjoy. I'm already seeing huge bumble bees at work & ladybirds basking in the sunny spots. The range of birdsong is so therapeutic. I can see squirrels in the woodland from my bedroom window & they are fascinating to watch. Being around nature helps me to destress. As you gradually find what works in your garden, you'll be amazed at what you've achieved. Nature at It's best. Your plans for the hall & kitchen sounds a perfect solution to your needs & you paint a perfect image of the layout. Happy Easter to you & all your family ❤x
Bleeding heart y mums plant I have 3 Toni u need ericaceous compost for your Rhododendron and Camellia and if u buy Pieris it also need ericaceous compost now if u have these plants in your garden already they are fine to go straight into the ground I love gardening sending love 🏴💞
Loving that you are having a pot garden. Your Camelia needs to be placed where it doesn't get the morning sun. They do better in dappled shade. A sheltered spot is a must without exposure to wind. You need a pot several sizes bigger than the pot you bought it in. Acidic soil is best they do a mix for Rhododendrons and azaleas which is also good for your Camelia. I wish you well with her. In my new kitchen l have had an ironing board put in it folds underneath the working top it’s brilliant says dragging out the ironing board which is now in the roof.

Morning Toni aw that was one of my mums favourite plants seeing it brought back lovely memories of her gardening 💞 great to see you back. I’ve also recently moved and feel exactly the same. I’m living my best life at 63 💖
Toni always make sure you tease the roots out of the plants you are potting otherwise they remain pot bound. And your Camellia and Roadie will need a special ericaceous compost to stop them going yellow. Dicentra will be absolutely fine, it lost its soil because because it had clearly only been recently re potted which wasn’t your fault don’t worry! What l would suggest is googling and finding a proper plant nurseries, it will save you pounds and you’ll be buying much better, healthy grown plants. Pop into your local charity shop and treat yourself to a really good plant/ gardening book for beginners and happy gardening trust me it’s totally addictive! 🌺🌸

Toni, whatever you do, don't plant anything direct into the ceramic pots! They grow so big and you'll never get them out without breaking the pot. Put a plastic pot inside the ceramic one. x

Toni, your Campanula,also known as Star of Bethlehem was a good buy , it will come up every year,I have had mine now for 10 years now.
Campanula...or star of Bethlehem is a beautiful plant. Will spread and thicken every year. I had it in my old house it was fab.
Great idea toni using the original pot as a guide,,my nan used to put stones in the bottom of big pots to weigh it down then fill it with compost,might be an idea for your big plant hope you have a lovely Easter xx
For your larger pot, put some cardboard torn up in the bottom. That way you won't need to need so much soil. I think with your camelia, you may need a specific soil for it? Enjoy your garden x

When watering, especially in sunshine, only water around the base of the plant or the leaves with burn xx

Have a nice dinner together tomorrow, and those deserts sounded real nice. Your plants you've potted up will be fine, as long as we don't get anymore frost and snow, which watch out for, because they have said we might get some. It's such as that, that I have noticed kill's your new plants off. Great Idea with your kitchen,and I know exactly what you mean about wanting somewhere to sit and eat, but do the kitchen and it like kills two birds with one stone. Gosh so excited for you, getting a new kitchen, it would be a thought maybe to think about the era of the house when planning your next kitchen. Anyway crack on ,and see you soon. 🥰🐾🐾💖

Put empty plastic pots turned upside down in bigger pots instead of stones and it keeps it light and has extra drainage

Toni, in your big Pot, put some drainage stones at the bottom and you won't need so much earth to fill it.
Your house is lovely as it is but if you need more light in the hallway remove the cupboard by the front door as you mentioned earlier. I would leave the kitchen as it is, knock through to the utility room and use some of that space for a small dining table. Less work and expense xx
I love that you are into gardening..you will love it but it is disheartening when some plants dont survive so perhaps watch Gardeners World on Friday night BBC2 and buy a couple of books and ask at the garden center also bei g outside just pottering about does wonders for your mental health..❤

Get some liquid tomato food and add to the watering can and feed your pots once a week. Always check the pots don't dry out even when raining.
