They might be nice, but GOOD LORD they are expensive. IMHO, prohibitively so, especially for people who are new to the hobby. They are also pretty wasteful if you just discard the other switch parts. Some people really, really overhype these. Please remember that there are (different) less expensive options out there.
You make a great point! There are a TON of other options out there and MANY if not MOST people would very happy with a stock tactile at a much more reasonable price point. Browns, Naevies, Ergo Clears, T1s and all JWK tactile recolors, Box Royals, stock Halos, stock Zealios, even Holy Pandas, the list goes on. This video is definitely more of a showcase for the happy little child born between peak tactility and peak sound for those who have experimented with switches and are still unhappy with what they've tried and/or have extra funds to throw at this hobby to experiment.
@@Minterly I think a Dark jade is just as tactile and way cheaper, I did make a 67g zykos and it felt really tactile but maybe I need a 78g to truly tell the difference.
Because it’s not worth it since there are tactile who are better for so much cheaper take tealios v2s as an example they were one of the best linears but now are just dead due to new linears being better values like jwk switches. Also for your statement about gmk keycaps they actually maintain and gain value due to how exclusive they are allowing you to resell them in the long run
Holy, I just put one together since i have a Zealios from a switch tester and spare drop pandas and omg they are amazing, I think you've just converted me to team Zykos
the logical basic stuff, like dont lube the tactile bump and stuff like that. which springs eliminate tactility.... is really important to those who just started this, subbed
That is the best sound I have ever heard in a switch and I will take your word on the feel. Definitely adding this to my to do list for my new keeb. So glad I came across this particular video and can't wait until my new keeb is built with your franken caps. Thank you.
Great, comprehensive video! Love the editing. Playing around with random springs, one thing I did notice was that longer springs of the same weight always produced a stronger tactility vs the shorter version of said same weight spring. Most springs being marketed at bottom out force, doesn't take too much consideration into the potential energy differences of springs when preloaded, and it's potential impact to enhance tactility. Maybe another way to even further enhance the zykos tactility.
Amazing video, the production quality is deliciously good. And thank you for introducing me to the Cult of Zykos! Once I finished your video I ordered the switches I needed and am currently waiting to assemble some Zykos. Thank you and keep up the good work!
If you want the ultimate thock I recommend building the 🅱ykos which use the Boba top housing instead. You can also straight up use the Boba stems, making them more budget that way. They are very similar to Halo stems, but you do give up just a little in tactility for more thocc
Daaamn as soon as the sound test started I knew this was a good switch. I was a bit worried when you said the halo stems create a higher pitched sound but it actually sounds really nice. I love an extremely tactile switch as well.
Whoa, what?? I actually made these switches like a year ago (with Drop HP tops specifically) and big disclaimer, if you open the switches more than a couple times, the panda tops are EXTREMELY prone to cracking. I wound up destroying a whole lot of HP tops this way, lol. I eventually tried NK Blueberry stems in YOK panda housings and I love it! Practically made HP's feel linear by comparison.
i had the pieces laying around and tried this out. i also had drop holy pandas on hand and a batch of halo clears and translucent pandas that came in today. ill say that the tactility is awesome! its a round tactile event much like the zealios instead of the "over coming the hump and then slamming into bottom out" with the drop holy pandas. the zykos is zero pretravel and zero travel after the tactile event before you bottom out. but because we are using the zealios bottom, the bottom out is less "thocky" than the typical holy panda thock. its a BIT more muted but much more thocky than the normal zealios bottom out. About 80% the thock between a zealios bottom out and a holy panda bottom out (towards the holy panda side) I would say. Also, i wanted to note that the invyr top and the bsun tops are really different. they are both polycarbonate, but the bsun top has more ping and a higher note while invyr top has a deeper sound. in short, its the switch that i always wished the zealios were. its more of a "tightly controlled" tactile event compared to the zealios which i would consider a "loose and wobbly" tactile event. and again, the difference between the panda and the zykos is taht i would describe a holy panda tactile event as falling over cliff and hitting rock bottom, and zykos would be like "driving over a speedbump that is right up against a tree."
I had to like this video because of the spring install B roll. how you got aggressive with the final one after failing twice before is hilarious to me.
Exactly. I'm kind of just sitting on my HPs and some old Zealios that I haven't used in a long time. I just bought the 78g durock springs. I'm excited to try this. Might even put these in my Think6.5v2, depending on how it goes. I've been loving my Tangies, though, so I'm having a hard time deciding.
The video quality feels more akin to a channel with 6-digit subscriber counts. I was definitely surprised to see your sub count be this low. Keep it up!
Very nice and detailed video! Given that stem issue I would not advise the mixed housing for people using hot swappable boards. The force to push the switch in can ruin it based on what you showed. One the leaf inside bends tactility is ruined.
I made a couple of Zykos switches with Glorious stems and top housings and it's honestly the best tactile switch I've felt so far. Thanks, I hate that I'll need to make my next build out of these expensive switches now :)
After using many different switches, I realized I don't prefer super tactile switches. Most popular tactile switches today can be overly tactile and they can get uncomfortable. I'm more into subtle tactile switches now, like kailh pro purples or even modded mx clears.
As much as I try to be a keyboard snob my work just got these lenovo keyboards that are some weird psuedo mech membrane thing, it actually feels so nice to type on.
I just want to point out that zilent bottom housings and zealios bottom housings have 2 different sounds/level of tactility. I thought they were the same so when I ran out of zealios bottom housings when I lost 2 to bad leaves my friend had zilents on hand The zykos built with zilent bottom housings seem to let the stem sink deeper causing a slightly weaker bottom out sound compared to zealios
Can confirm, built zanda speed switches (panda housing/stem with gateron clear spring (35g) and zealios bottom) as my osu switch. Want to make more but its hard to buy invyr pandas in lower quantities :(
Made some with some Feker holy pandas and Zealios V2s. Also made some with real holy pandas and I legit can't feel the difference and they sound identical
I need to try these out but so far my favourite tactile switch has been a Frankenswitch with c3 kiwi housing and Boba U4T stem. Either calling it boba Fetts or green apples. Not sure which name suits the colours better
Or you can try a Dark Jade/T1 housing with a Halo stem for EVEN MORE tactility and much cheaper. T1s are basically clones of V2 Zealios and don't have the failure rates of Zykos leaf. The leaf failure is due to how Gateron switch housings are built. Inks will suffer from the same issues.
I actually really hate how T1s sound, so a huge part of the perfect switch for me is a balance of tactility and sound! Although Dark Jade seems like a popular suggestion so I guess I should try those next.
I immediately tried this switch after watching this video and yes, t1 with a halo stem is absolutely more tactile and more enjoyable for me personally. I absolutely love dark jades as well
Great video! What case is that? I really love the look and sound of everything. I already have some homebrewed Holy Pandas and was planning on doing an order from Zeal so this might be something to try!
I messed up a glorious panda by trying to put on the top housing backwards, and i bent it back and it made the bump suuuper prominent. I was able to bend the leaf a bit back again to make it feel normal, but is leaf modding a thing? Cuz u can prob make a brown feel great like that
Great video! Your quest to find the bubble-wrap popping switch, did you find it? - i know you said the feel of the Zykos was like that, but what about the sound?
Hey, I want to make this switch as well. I'm a little bit scared of the soldering part as you said the leaf might move and flatten. I'm using hot swappable board so would that increase the risk of ruining the switch? I cant really pull the pins...
Hi i was wondering how the switches are holding up? Any key chattering or issues with them after using them for a few months? I've read that the drop holy pandas users complain about faulty switches/key chattering and such, thus my concern.
