You can get a job at any National Park via hospitality . Housekeeping, laundry, groundskeeping, maintanance, tour or adventure guides, kayak canoe guides, guest services front desk at a lot of the hotels and properties on or close by. Most are seasonal but it's a great way to work and explore. I'm 29 and doing it this summer Fathom Fives National Park.
With everybody currently around me being so absolved in practically anything but the present moment, it can be difficult to remember how to stay true to this part of myself, being able to give my body, mind and soul what it needs to be a happy human. So thank you, thank you for reminding me its not silly, its not weird, to prioritize myself and my happiness~ a fellow 20-something environmental science dweeb
I came here because I thought about applying for a Park Ranger Trainee at a park that I love in my state but I subscribed because I just love your attitude and your energy please keep up with your doing
i’m about to graduate from highschool, and i’m struggling with figuring out my plans after graduation ! my parent’s recommended working at a national park, and this video really helped ! i love you vibe and we share the same name !! thank you for this
I’m going through the same thing, Ive been researching jobs and internships at national parks. I’ve decided to apply to a science internship that will start in the may but that definitely won’t be my only option, I’m still looking for more internships/jobs. Are you planning on working in the summer then starting school in fall?
@@samantha9782 no, i’m actually planning to finish up my AA in the fall/spring of next year and then interning/working afterwards !! i’m still unsure of where, and what i’ll major in, but i’m excited nonetheless. what park are you most interested in interning/working at ??
@@izzzeee I don’t have a location in mind yet, the internship I plan on applying for isn’t available until Dec 1 but I assume they’ll have me choose a specific park or at least my preferred park. When I see the options I’ll look into which one seems to fit me best. For my major, my current plan is wildlife biology as I’d like to work in wildlife research or rehabilitation. My ideal plan is to intern this summer and or next summer, then after I’ve completed 2 years of college I can work as a seasonal ranger (or another nps job) in the summer of my junior and senior year. Do you have any areas of interest for what kind of job you want w nps?
solid video... been thinking about natl/state parks as an option for me... But I have to say, you might want to get to that laundry at some point. It's not going to do itself. Hiker trash. I love it
This is great! Thank you Izzy! I am starting on my journey as a back country guide and I appreciate your words of encouragement. I'm doing the WFR course in December and I'm excited for this adventure. Keep up the good work and thanks again.
Katie R hi Katie! It’s not a necessity to have a college degree, but showing strength in requirements for your position, adaptability, and a strong cover letter is a good place to begin! I also recommend having a wilderness first aid certification which can give you a leg up :)
Izzy Thank you! And can’t wait to see your journey with the PCT. I am 22 years old & plan on hiking the PCT in the start of spring 2020. I’m doing for almost the exact same mental health reasons you have been through. Its the first time I have seen anyone like me, talk about this journey. I’m so excited for you & thank you for sharing. ❤️
@@kkrose96 Thank you for being a part of my journey! Mental health is so important and I am glad there are people like us to bring more compassion and understanding to the world :) Best of luck on your PCT journey!!
@Katie girl absolutely! I've already been reached out to for jobs very soon after applying. Check out coolworks.com for lots of various different opportunities inside and around National Parks or Xanterra and Aramark. If you're in it for the money you might be a little disappointed but from what I've grasped employees are able to save a lot of what they make bc room/board and food are already taken out of your check ! :) Much luck to you 🌸
Hey Izzy, what is the hiring process like? I assume some parks are harder to get into than others, so does that limit which jobs you can get hired for, or are there generally openings?
Sorry, two more questions. Are there positions that you can work year round? And do you have to pay for the room and board out of pocket, or is it factored into your pay?
I know this is an old video but I am genuinely curious. I'm in highschool and want to do an internship at a national park. Do you know what I can expect from that?
DestroyerZ it’s something I’m working on as well. It depends on the place 100%, working your way up the chain to be completely honest. Again, some jobs are full time, most are seasonal. But with that you can make connections and see where an experience can lead you.
look into WG (wage grade) seasonal jobs. there are plenty of summer seasonal WG 3/4/5's that you can be eligible for with experience. they are usually called "maintenance worker" on USAJOBS. I was a WG-4 custodial worker in Yosemite for a summer, it was awesome. It can lead to a permanent job if you're lucky!
Hi I recently graduated with a similar degree. This might be late but With a degree you should be able to get a job as a biological technician, it’s either if you apply to lesser know locations and apply to everything that interests you.
onejollyholly I worked with a non profit that focused on education through guided hikes :) where I worked was partnered with the NPS, so not directly under it.

Lizzy, hi my name is Cory. I'm retiring soon and it's always been a dream of mine to work in the smokie mountain national park, any advice.
I would do it but they pay so little. Volunteering would be nice though.
More videos please.

Mama always said "make your bed before company comes!" Or is this the look of a person who is discovering their true self? Which is?
Are you thinking fo an update video ?
I really want that opportunity
It sounds glamorous to me
I don't know if you will see this, I know this is an old video, but what advice would you give to someone with a pet?
how often do they drug test when you work there?
How/where did you apply to work in the park?
Is it possible to have this job permanently? I mean, i don't wanna work for 6 months and that's it

Can you even work there without college

What job did you have in the national park? Was it with the NPS?

I start in 20 days
How is it?
You dont have to have gone to college at all to get a job in a national park
You are damn beautiful!
20 years old? sorry i thought you were like 28 lol.
I’m a lawyer and have been fantasizing about quitting and working at a national park for the last few years
