    I agree with the sentiment that "A bad day in the field, is still better than a good day in the office!"

    Service is more than a word. It’s a calling. I’m a Marine vet of Iraq and Afghanistan, and I proudly continue to serve our nation in the US Forest Service.

    I was hoping to view this comment section and see more support for folks who gave a part of themselves to an organization that exemplifies the strength and pride of our great country. I was sadly mistaken. I am an Iraq War Veteran. I come from a long family line of military veterans. And, I am a "minority". I do struggle with PTSD. I do have some regrets. I did volunteer. For folks criticizing the Park Service for welcoming veterans, I feel bad for you. If you dont like the Veteran's preference policy, vote in a representative that feels the same way. Odds are, you are going to have a hard time finding one. Most people aren't as synical as you.
    God Bless the USA and God Bless all those who have given their lives in support of this country and its values.

      @It's me, Joolz I am. Fortunately the Department of Veterans Affairs has been getting better in regards to treatment methods for PTSD. Unbeknownst to a lot of Americans, President Obama sought to improve care within the VA for mental health treatment. It has been slowly getting better ever since.

      @discorperted You say "HAS" to hire me, in all caps. I can see you take a considerable amount of disdain in the fact. I'm sorry minority veterans are taking your jobs that you so rightly deserve and have earned. Maybe one day that will change and you can go back to doing what you love to do. Never mind those men and women who come back and want to be active members of the workforce and community. Maybe we should go back to the days when it was difficult for them. Those policies had adverse results though, which led to homelessness, substance disorders and exacerbated mental health issues. Seems like a logical outcome.
      And finally, I was not forced to serve or sacrafice my own well being. I chose to answer a call very few did. I am not ashamed, nor do I feel sorry for myself. Yes I have PTSD, and if I were to do it all over again, I would make the same decision without question. Period!

      @It's me, Joolz My experience with the VA has mostly been positive. There were some barriers at first, but nothing that could not be overcome. I have access to mental health care, support groups targeted towards veterans from my era, and benefits that help me prepare for life after the military. If I were to change one thing it would be the disability benefits process. Not all veterans who went to a combat zone receive the level of disability pay that I receive monthly. I feel like anyone that set foot in a combat zone deserves a 100 percent disability rating no matter their career or experiences. One day, that time in a deployed environment will have some sort of effect on their life. And for that, we should as a society, we should take care of them.

      @It's me, Joolz I haven't spoken to elected officials. I suppose that would be a good idea. I'm not sure how much I can change or influence, but you dont know until you try right. I do see it as an issue today. Fortunately when it comes to claims, wait times are getting better. I think the issue was the increase in returning veterans after the wars drew down. There was a massive influx in the amount of claims that were being processed

      @discorperted I'm not interested in a national park job. Dont really need it. And as for destroying a country, I did no such thing. I was an active participant in the rebuild process of Iraq. I worked hand in hand with my Iraqi counterparts in attempting to stabilize their economy and bring security to their city. I did not murder innocent women, children or men. I maintained a professional relationship with Iraqi Securoty Forces and made a lasting impression on the community I served. So much so that when I returned for my second deployment I was greeted like family. So no, I am not ashamed about my service. And I am truly hurt to see what happened after we left.

    They would serve better with the Border Patrol Service. Are people trying to illegally enter, etc... our national Parks?

    • @F1Mike000
      @F1Mike000 6 лет назад +7

      Illegal immigration across the border really hasn't been a big problem since about a decade ago. It really was more of an early 2000s problem.

    • @F1Mike000
      @F1Mike000 6 лет назад +2

      @discorperted visa overstays aren't the same as illegal border crossers.

      @discorperted what does that have to do with the border patrol?

    • @F1Mike000
      @F1Mike000 6 лет назад

      @discorpertedI'm pretty sure the Border Patrol can only operate within 100 miles of the border. Also their name implies that their job is to patrol the border, not to find and deport people from national parks.
