Incredible documentary series. We never get to hear about this in the West. I have also researched the names of the various figures in the series and its just amazing that you captured so much. I am also awed by the enormous sacrifice made by those who perished. Thank you so much.
I appreciate very much this documentary and everything else Star Media has done so far and I've learned many interesting facts and details about the eastern front during ww1 (previously unknown to me). However I have couple of remarks and corrections about the Serbian campaign in 1915. Bulgarian participation on the side of central powers in ww1 was completely omitted from this documentary. Serbia was not attacked only from the north. It was simultaneously attacked from both Austria and Germany from the north (350 000 troops) and Bulgaria from the east (400 000 troops). If it was not for the Bulgarians, Serbian army could have withdrawn to the south toward Macedonia and Greece (not toward the west and the Adriatic coast) where it could have connected with the French and British allies already there in Salonika, and the Serbian Golgotha (winter-time retreat through Albanian mountains) would have been avoided. Also, the entire country was occupied and divided equally between Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria after the Serbian retreat, and the most severe reprisals against civilian population in occupied Serbia after 1915 were mostly done by the Bulgarians unfortunately. Another remark, king Peter I Kara-Georgevich wasn't really walking incognito alongside peasants during the winter retreat in 1915 (as presented here), he was carried by his officers and soldiers on improvised stretchers and on their shoulders. Otherwise than that, I really enjoyed watching this series.
I know I'm rather late but thank you for taking time to explain that. Retreating to the west now makes sense in the face of a Bulgarian offensive. I knew nothing of this before.
I love Star Media content. You always deliver the most amazing doco's and films. Much of this series is completely new to me. I had no idea about this front. Russia deserved far better allies. What a shameful waste of young lives and we were back into another European meet grinder too soon. No side came away whole. I was surprised to learn how effective (horse) cavalry was in this theatre of the war. Australia was a newborne nation when WW1 sucked us into the horror. Australia should have done more to supply Russian soldiers with meat, grains and steel. It's tragic that we didn't. What is the point of being an ally if we failed when Russia needed help? During this time in our history, Australians were "English" and as they threw our soldiers lives away in mass suicide attacks, I think people moved away from the decaying empire.
I hadn't thought about that but you're right. The Pacific was largely untouched so supplies could have been landed at Vladivostok and sent by train to the front lines. Did Australia have much in the way of an industrial base back then?
@@blackrabbit212 Blank checks make many things possible. Along the east and southern coastal cities, we had large ironworks, coal for thousands of years, car manufacturing that could have been repurposed, aircraft manufacturing, the capacity to supply all strategic metals, and an underutilized workforce of women. And we had a fat-headed MacArthur who saw everything as his. He didn't play well with others. Factor in NZ and we'd have been able to clothe an army with heavy woolen clothing, sheepskins, and wheat. We made aircraft, trucks, bulldozers, and tanks. The strategic threat was a big Japanese fleet. By the time the Soviets were fighting to breathe, we could have added the extra rolling stock to help the logistic effort. Like I said, either we were allies or we were a joke. I've wondered about the number of Soviet soldiers who might have lived if we sent a few tons of penicillin.
Australia could barely feed itself after a major drought in 1914 and the production was not large enough, its industry was burgeoning and the little surplus it had mostly went to Britain. International shipping was heavily disrupted and Britain and its commonwealth only saw Russia as a convenient ally rather than a friend to truly help.
@@SFDPSFDP What a load of garbage. Australia has been affluent and able to produce far more than needed to feed people. Out of a population of fewer than 5M, we sent 416,000 men, all volunteers. No troop ships were lost and we supplied huge amounts of supplies. Over 60,000 died and 150,000 wounded. The nation was 14 years old. Many Australians considered the UK as the mother country in 1914. The war prompted a steady decline in feelings to Britain. All allies are a convenience. Russia took itself out of the war and embraced communism. Scholars now treat the Great War and WW2 as one horror. You might want to read more on this topic before commenting.

The eradication of mankind altogether is when peace might happen, might because we have such a lasting legacy that even our own destruction might not be enough to relieve the world of our war damage.

Excellent production, the historical figures, timelines, maps, subtitles tell a great and tragic story. thank you
I love this show! So beautifully done. Thank you for the English subtitles. The Russian army fought so bravely in both world wars. Thank you so much!

what's the accordion music at the end?
I imagine it 's the march Farewell of Slavianka. . . the most famous march of the Russian Army,
No it's not that one for sure...it's not militaristic for sure
The melody is still similar to Farewell of Slavianka, this is done by the flim composer, Boris Kukoba.
В жопе найдёшь эту музыку, армян. Армян всегда останется армяном.

Just like saying the USA won both wars is completely stupid. Of course they mix in national pride, because each nation fought to the end.
At least they managed to get most of it right. Plus, the errors that are present aren’t exactly too significant or glaring.
