Here's a look at a beginner wood carving tool kit. In this video we'll be unboxing the Tekchic Deluxe Wood Carving Kit. I'll show you what's included and share my first impressions. I'll also test to see if these tools are sharp right out of the box.
As I mention in this video, I recommend that beginners strongly consider what tools they really need. Buying tools in a set or a kit can result in purchasing tools that you may not use. For example, this kit includes tools for carving figures and tools used for carving wooden spoons. In my experience most carvers either carve figures or spoons exclusively rather than carving both.

Brilliant cousin Jack. I have a set of 5 I bought which include the 2 you suggested. Just need to buy a gorge and v tool to be complete. Between you and Doug Linker I am well served with advice. Thankyou.

Hi John, I like the tools made by Flexcut and Pfeil (AKA Swiss Made) if they’re available in your part of the world.

@whittling Thankyou. I can get both here in Western Australia. Flexcut are more in my budget so that's what I will get.

I liked your honest reviews! My question is what carving knives do you use and recommend?

Hi Bruce! I have many knives from many brands. Very often I use my Stanley 199 Utility Knife with Lenox Gold razor blades. I also recommend Flexcut because they have a wide variety of knives and other tools that are readily available and reasonably priced.

Nice set up. Any thoughts on a chainmail glove ?❤

The gloves in this kit are level 5 cut resistant which is good. I would recommend wrapping some safety tape around the fingers of the glove for better grip. I don’t have a chainmail glove but I imagine it would be difficult to grip the wood.

What is that kiridashi knife used for, I got this set and I’m confused what I’d use it for

It can be useful for a variety of cuts. For example, getting into tight spaces and corners that may be difficult with a standard blade and for chip carving as well. Happy carving!
