Something the Orville did better than any other Trek show (Yes, the Orville is a Trek show - it's earned that right) is astropolitics. Between the Moclans, the Kaylon, and the Krill, I was constantly at the edge of my seat, trying to figure out who was going to end up allied with whom, and I fell for the red herring and got the full level of enjoyment out of the surprise every time.

I loved how far they went flipping the status quo on it's head by the end, and doing it in a manner that was logically consistent with the universe.
Even though I doubt we'll ever get another season, they really ended it on a very satisfying high note and left enough time for a nice resolution to tie a bow on it.

That's something I also felt Babylon 5 did better Trek. It felt like there was more weight with the Centauri vs. Narn conflict than the Cardassian vs. Bajoran conflict. The Orville gets it right as well.

It’s quite interesting when you think of it from their perspective. Originally a song about being hopeful that things will improve is turned into a depressing song about a girl singing how things will only get worse for her. Both kind of fit with the plot and events happening overall

The Krill are like the Literary Orcs to me. Capable of ubderstanding and appreciating many things but subtext and deeper themes. The way they talk about everything in a brusque and straightforward manner. It's like war and deception are a one-note thing for them. So when someone blindsides them, the tactic is something so obvious it escaped them.
