- A song from the cancelled Batman the Musical. The Musical was to be produced by Warner Bros Theater Ventures, and be an adaption of the first two movies with the same cast [excluding the Penguin]. I'm very disappointed, the songs were absolutely brilliant. Hopefully if the Spiderman Musical does well, DC will bring back the project to compete with it.
About the song: This song, as well as 'Gotham City', a lament by the people living in it about the condition of the town would've opened the show.
RIP to the genius that is Jim Steinman. I would pay good money if this was ever released.
I can definitely see Matt Reeves' The Batman vibing with this.

It's like a gothic version of Hear The Screams, it's brilliant, and Steinmans vocals give it this feel and I love it so damn much!
I don't care how, but these songs need to get released!
they will probably appear on the next steinman / meatloaf album as he has recorded most of steinmans back catalogue when some of the songs would be better left alone . 'pandoras box' and 'bad for good' for example
I'd love a modern cover of The Graveyard Shift for Matt Reeves' upcoming film The Batman. Too bad it obviously won't happen.
A fan production could be staged so long as it was non-profit

I love the intro moments of "The Spooky Song" and the obvious "God speed" from "Bad For Good." Then the chord progression of "Spooky Song" comes back. A very odd tune, but awesome. So basically all of Steinman.
Steinman recycles. A lot.
And some of the lyrics are from Original Sin too!
Steinman originally used "god speed, speed us away" in the 1980s for the song Nowhere Fast from the film Streets of Fire
@@kentallard8852 Before that, in "Bad for Good", and then the music goes all the way back to "Song of the Dream Engine" in 1969, even some of the God speed lines

Steinman amazing as always, but i gotta say, i'm enjoying this David J. Smith guy, but Steinman's got a pretty good sounding Batman voice
I'm actually more interested in the comments than the video. The number of people who like it and the people who don't are pretty... not exactly evenly split, but more divided than the internet usually is. It's a bit fascinating.

"god speed, speed us away" is reused from his Streets of Fire song Nowhere Fast
I don't know at all, but I heavily suspect he used it here first and then used it there when this fell thru

@kentallard8852 I believe that too. I know he likes to reuse his stuff when their original projects fell thru. I extrapolated instead of researched.
I'm the biggest Jim Steinman fan around, but I am glad this musical was never made.

Just so there is no doubt about this: This son is NOT written by Jim Steinmann. IT's one of 3 that a fan named Scaramouche made for the now defunct fansite "Dark Knight of the Soul" page, where you could find all the Steinmann demos for the musical. A few people (including me) recorded tributes. Scaramouche's songs were actually better sounding because the demos were literally recorded in Jim's home without much post production. Scaramuche's songs were called "Dark Entwined with Darkness", "I'll Decorate the City in RIvers of Blood" and this one, "The Graveyard Shift." Jim's own were called "Gotham City" "The Joker's Song(Wonderful Toys)" "Catwoman's Song", "Not Allowed to Love" "In The Land Of The Pig THe Butcher Is King", "Cry To Heaven" and "We're Still The Children We Once Were". I think most of them are out on RUclips somewhere, and a few are re-recorded (In the land of the pig by Meat Loaf, Not Allowed to love is in the new Bat Out of Hell musical etc).
Just give Scaramouche his credit. He is/was awesome. I wish he'd do more.
