    Victor Bray was the stuff of legend when I was growing up. It's so great to see Ben following in his footsteps. He seems like a great bloke.

    Victor bray was my all time favorite driver in the early 90s great to see ben doing well and he has been for quite some time awesome family can't wait to see what they do in the future

    Our family troop carrier in the 90's had one of these engines...I still remember Dad telling me how he chirped the wheels leaving the dealership on a test drive! Said he loved the 'Go' it had for such a big rig so we got it! It was the first car I learnt how to drive in too out on the clay pans out bush.
    Being a petrol I remember people at the service station telling Dad (On more than one occasion) that he'd put the wrong fuel in it because they assumed it was a diesel. Would love to see one tickled up and put in a lighter platform....4.5 litre 6cylnder running on unleaded, 'yew' beauty!

    I went to the same primary school a few years under Victor Bray. And went to the same Scout group as him.
    He was mates with my older brother.
    He was full of beans always, and had a real wild streak, though the sense not get into trouble with the police, afaik.
    I went to a different high school, so lost touch with him and his brothers.
    I can say his family was very respected in the region. My mother was great friends with Victor's mother who was a lovely lady.
    His dad was a hard worker who developed Australia's foremost hydroponic tomato farm. They got premium prices for their tommies in Syd and Mel markets, mainly to high end restaurants.
    Victor's brothers have all done well in their own way. And there's so much of young Victor in Ben.
    Bloody great interview. Who would have thought a 6 cylinder Landcruiser could compete.

    I rebuilt my parents 105 series 1fzfe engine and i was absolutely amazed at how well designed it is. They have oil injection for the pistons as standard even though they aren't boosted. Thats why a landcruiser with 500k kms is still worth good money. They built them to last almost forever.

      I recently bought a 1uz 4 liter for a project. Forged internals and overly engineered on every detail. Great used engine for $700.

      You said it bud we'll made indeed and it's like at 500 there just getting broken in lol they are made to last its to bad they don't build all motors this way maybe we wouldn't be such a throw away world like now lol

    whats the major advantage of running no intercooler? for better throttle response?
    I do know meth runs way cooler than normal petrol so prob one reason why it does not need much cooling of the charged air before it enters the cylinders.

    • @Hellsslave666
      @Hellsslave666 6 лет назад +4

      Just a little anecdote: I was a a ractor pulling event a while ago where they had a bigblock V8 single turbo on meth and on the intake right after the Injectors there was Frozen condensation. :O

    • @bruizey7319
      @bruizey7319 6 лет назад +5

      Yep! a blown alcohol motor will have condensation on the blower case at idle. You said it - better turbo response (shorter intake) so good for spooling large turbos, no need for intercooling. Plus methanol is a lot more forgiving than petrol to tune - less chance of detonation.

    • @justso1823
      @justso1823 6 лет назад +2

      Its only running for a short pass so should not suffer heat soak plus intercoolers cause turbo lag

  • @ldnwholesale8552
    @ldnwholesale8552 6 лет назад

    Now it just needs a proper body and a front diff!
    In reality there is a LOT of engines than can be modified, it is just a lot harder when you cannot buy parts off the shelf.
    50s and 60s road racers and speedway teams used some off stuff at times which made very good power. Things like Puegoets and Renaults in midgets, 292 Chev 6 or 300 Ford truck motors in Supermodifieds
    And it is easier to destroke an engine than bore way beyond the blocks capacity

    • @Lax_On_The_Tracks
      @Lax_On_The_Tracks 6 лет назад +2

      @@davey_projects2977 the advantage of the air solenoid shifter is basically it can be in the next gear before any human could possibly shift as fast. It's been used in drag racing for decades and just works. Alot of others also use a CO2 assisted shifter for automatics normally programmed with a shift timer.
