It may look like a classic TC Cortina but look closer and you'll see a thoroughly modern, very capable, all-purpose race car. With a turbo Barra engine and most of the drivetrain sourced from a late XR6 turbo, Greg managed to achieve the holy grail of car building: the nostalgic looks of his first ride with a modern-day performance that allows him to successfully compete in a variety of events from hill climb to drags. And perhaps the most impressive part is - he managed to do it all in his shed with some help from friends and family!

Greg - legend. Right down to the bare foot drivin'. Mad build mate.
I've always loved that body style
Remember seeing so many Cortina's here in the UK back in the day. Honestly can't recall seeing a Mk3 on the road where I live in years. Gotta love an old fast Ford
CONGRATS FROM CAPE TOWN SA...😀😉👌🇿🇦💖
The four link suspension metal fabrication in the back is a piece of art!
Full respect
It would be nice to hear more of the engine. Even a 30 second clip with no talking would be great.
what an awesome car and build.
Nicest sounding Barra ive heard.
Watching the car drive I'm getting flash backs lol talking to myself I know that rd ...!!!! Doing my own little hill climbs back in the day 🤣
Bloody Cortina Man What a Awesome and Beautiful Barra Cortina never seen one here in NZ I love this Cortina Always Keen
I've got a 2 L manual and 41 manual here in nz
Mate that looks so cool and so we'll made
Great combination all round,
Excellent car 👍👌
NEATO exhaust note.
How mint does it sound!
🎶👂
Australia got all the sick cars! The barra sounds incredible, what a beautiful car. How can I move to Australia? 😂 those hill climbs look like a blast!
Pure dedication prioritising car part budget over shoes
Love the cortinas. Seen a few back in nz. Only 20 over there then moved oz brother brought a 3.3 mark 3. Was ruff butt loved it square headlight he brought it 700 n sold it. Dam wanted to keep it but nowhere to. But yes nice car bro. Fulla n nz had a 4.1 oz mark 4/5 ghia that waz real nice 30 years back.
Everything About this Ford Cortina Man is the Next Level to be Honest We Love It
So she’s a uni Mig colourBeautiful car awesome engineering
Super awesome guy, super cool car
I would love one of those bonnets and door mirrors unfortunately we can't get those items in the UK. But i do have a YB under the bonnet 😁
Great build 👍🏻
Had one of those when i was 16 years of age,
True blue mate !!!
Well done this is an almost identical instance to my race car to be finished 2022. I took it a bit further cutting the entire body work from a barra fg and welding it up under a 1973 car. This allows me to select components off the shelf for fg. I am a queenslander now, but born in Adelaide and have raced willunga hill in my rally car. Keep up the good work and good luck with racing.
Show it
This is a DREAM build. I have a TD Wagon. Inherently, TC/D Cortinas have suspect handling / steering on a good day. I wonder if sending this Barra back into the firewall fixed the floaty steering. Double A Arms should have be decent as Ford intended but I guess the position of the old 4.1 log was never a good idea?! Better positioning on this Barra, and a wider track will also help. If I won lottery I'd send this man my wagon to work the magic.
Thats a weapon alright , 3rd and 4th all the boost
5 years out of a clutch in a thrashbox is pretty impressive
My first car was a green TD 250 4 speed which I later wrote off. I love this car so much. Well done.!!
Jeezus that sounds good. Looks like my TC, sorta : )
I love everything about this story. Be proud. Well done.
Huge Cortina fan. ... Awesome build. Capetown love
That's one nice cortina my first two car were cortinas
With those wide wheels, this thing has the most beautiful looking frontend I've ever seen
I had to hit like when I saw the Cortina and because he is a fellow south aussie
What a legend!
I saw him at Geelong festival of speed. That's a very quick car.
Surely listening to that accent he's from Adelaide or somewhere else in South Australia 🤣👍
Keep up the great work, mate!
Hope to see you back in Geelong soon
One of my favourite car motor combos, and im a Holden guy, awesome work mate 👌
What a beautiful car, simply stunning ❤. I learnt to drive in my mk3 Cortina, fond memories of going sideways and crashing a lot lol.
Great content here.loved the mlk3 cortina
grew up in these cars in the 1970 s in the uk,they were everywhere then.
Like hens teeth now!
Stumbled upon your channel looking for Cortina builds.. Your '73 TC Barra is amazing! Great work 👍 However I'm super keen to see and hear about your '76 TD with the 4.0ltr! In 2002 I finished building my '78 TE (CORTTE) We put a '94 ED xr6 4ltr MPFI engine in it with the 5 speed manual conversion and running gear with a bunch of other mods, for the time was pretty nuts! I really miss it.. Might have to do it all over again at age 41! 😅
Great video. Awesome skills and kudos to you. My Grandma had a similar era 2 door cortina which I always thought would have made a great racer. Love yours
Cool car mate , and nice effort on the Corti . i remember many years ago our next door neighbour brought home a brand new XLE Cortina , iirc the same color as yours with the 250 CI 6 and Auto , it was a nice car.
I liked the TD models better than the boxy TE`s .
Epic bloke. Epic engine. Epic build. Thank you for sharing.
This is kinda perfect without being too perfectl Freakin' love it Mate. Good on ya!
Wow! Brilliant build and story
Top notch especially for a shed build really nice job 👍
That Barra actually sounds good!🤷🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣😉
True ingeneer!!!! congratulations from México!
Beautiful car!
you legend.
The race course he is running around 10:30 looks absolutely nuts, I wanna go for a spin! also, sick car, awesome build
An absolutely terrific build, that will keep your reflexes sharp for sure !!
Awesome build Greg, thanks Haltech for bringing us this story 👍
That is truly the best story I’ve heard all year from a car Lover. 👌🏼
Love what you have done in this build !

Cool as 😎
In South Africa Ford built and sold a Corrina XR6 👍 twas a V6 though 🤔
We used have these with stasky and hutch stripes on the side .my dad had about 5 but the best one was GXL ghia in metallic green.
Great story, car and bloke.
Well done my friend 🙌
Shes a beauty 😍
Love this, motivates me to learn as many skills as possible for my build. Inspirational
No shoes driving what a mad lad
Great stuff! Well done Mate🤘🏼💪🏼
I love this 🇬🇧
That is totally mint! What an awesome setup 👍😎
That blue Cortina in the background at around 2:55, is the number plate TD1976?! I think that was my old car! I had it for over a decade and my Dad and I built it up in his shed. Loved that car!! 💪💪💪
Fraid your looking for a different car. it is a 76 but had it the last 23 years and when I got it, it was green with a vinyl roof.
@@bowdenracing7046 Ok wow - it was the Ford Blueprint colour that caught my eye. I’d never seen another one in that colour - great minds think alike! Great work mate 🤙
Top job Greg, well done mate 👌
The one engine i so desperately need in the states
There's a guy who brings them in over there.. I'm not sure of his name but I can't imagine he'd be too much trouble to find..Cheers
Cortina finally gets the correct engine.
We've heard the same thing said about Mustangs:)
Well done mate.
Brilliant car!!!
the onboard sounds unreal - nearly NA
Wicked machine, perfection
Ps that thing is nice built and looks mega fun
Dream build 💯
Mad Max and beautiful beastly car
Very nice build
Hell yeah that's sick bit more poke than the old crossflow
It was not even a crossflow, as you can see in the video !!
@@arkhsm I think the original poster is talking about the fact that they also came out with a 250 6cyl, and this motor now eclipses that.
Take a breath before you type.
@@onedayiwillmakesomecontent Same to you, smartass !!
Cortina and Barra... unknown to most in the 'States. Kind of like Scott's anchor tattoo...
America: Viper/Charger/Challenger/Corvette/Camaro/Shelby/GT350
Americans: WHY DIDN’T WE GET THE BARRA?!?
His wife buys him a project car? Thats an awesome wife right there.
She's hiding something..... obviously went to K-mart without telling him...
Nice build
Amazeballs. All hail the mighty Barra.
Very nice car
Very cool
I wish we had these in the states but ill have to settle for a amc amx
righteous, best safety boots ever
LOL😄
Wow my Cortina looked just like the one at the end....
Nice 👍
Love that he's flogging it on the road with no shoes on. Guess the thongs got in the way.
If love one of those skirts under the bumper
I know wiring can be daunting but honestly wiring in a Haltech these days isn't hard work. Haltech make things so easy and straight forward and user friendly with all their guides and videos, coupled with all the resources on the internet. If you research, take your time with one wire at a time it will all fall into place. Then you will be ready to tackle the job again and do an ever better neater install. Its def a skill worth learning :)
I used to own a orange td cortina all og.. buld no. 161.. spewing I gave it away...would be worth some coin now...
👏👏👏👍😎
I like it the original was a 200 and 250 crossflows in the sixes plus I have seen v8 Cortina made from a 253 holden engine.
Love it! Nothing wrong with drag cars, but I prefer road course cars. Beautiful car
You could make it look so much better
Actually sounds good! Most Barra’s sound like a Dyson vacuum 🤣
Yeah, it sounds really crisp !!
Love my barra, but it sounds crap
Uncle did it for me...
I don't like 70s Cortinas but this is a great race car.
Wicked Corty! Obviously not a drag car, but has it been down the strip?
Its like Wil.E.Coyote strapped a Barra to his ACME rocket
