So after watching this film and following my first attempt at Street Photography, please let me know in the comments below if this genre is something which you’d like to see more of on the channel. Thank you.
Hi Andrew I do enjoy Street Photography but I find it both challenging and satisfying. It's not easy to get a 'great' Street shot and unlike landscape photography you can't plan anything. That's what I like about shooting street, it's an opportunist type of photography. My favourite image was the barber shop where you had the barber stood perfectly behind the face on the front window. That to me is great Street Photography. I shoot with the Fuji X system and it's fantastic for street as it's mirrorless so lightweight and compact with the electronic viewfinder and lcd showing your exposure you know you should be correctly exposed. I shoot with a large selection of lenses but generally stick to using the 35mm f2 (about 50mm on a FF sensor)
This was my first real go at this particular genre and boy was it a challenge - not only the photography but filming it for YT! I really enjoyed it tho and went on to make a couple more Street videos , practicing and learning all the way but plenty more learning to do !! That barber shot was my favourite too - the juxtaposition I just loved :) I'm yet to make the leap to mirrorless but agreed that a lightweight camera set up is best (and less obtrusive also) I'm watching much street stuff on YT to gain more experience but hope I'll improve over time. Much appreciated again Paul and big thanks 👍
You looked like you really enjoyed that, great photos for your first time at street photography. I'm wondering how cool would some shots be of the tram and surrounding buildings during the blue hour with the city lights?
Thanks Russ and I had an awesome time , really enjoyed the trip and just finished another one in Leeds in the rain which was as equally challenging and enjoyable! Funny you should mention blue hour as my plans include a night time shoot so why not start it in blue hour indeed ! Cheers mate
Excellent first attempt at the genre and loved the photographs you captured Andrew. So many good images - loved the waiter shot, the arches and the guy with the coffee looking straight at you !! Very enjoyable :)
Great Video Andrew! Fantastic summary about the subject and gear needed for street photography I love the abstract images! great framing and use of colour in all the images (including the monochrome images) I think you have found a new genre Excellent Video!
Thanks Tony and I had a most enjoyable time out practicing and learning . Plenty challenges that I learned from which will help me when next out on the streets. Glad you enjoyed the images and I find the monochrome shots can often work the best for the people shots. I love this genre and will certainly be having another go as it was so rewarding - thanks again for the support and have a great week .
So good to see you here again! Fun stuff, and very timely. I'm in the middle of editing a street POV video I shot on Labor Day, September 5 to you! 😂🤣 Thanks for sharing the day. Street photography is challenging, but very fun.
Ah thank you Jim ! Yep it was a great day out and a real challenge with plenty learned for next time - so much harder than it looks and can’t wait to watch your POV 👍🏻
So good Andrew. Love this one Really enjoyed this film and your street photos are exceptional. Use of colour and light is wonderful mate A really relaxing watch with some fantastic images 👍👍👏👏👏
Thanks Dave and much appreciated- it was a challenge and I learned plenty so another city adventure planned to practice some more. Really enjoyed the wander around town and thanks once again 👍🏻
I really liked this vlog Andrew. I could never do what you did as I am too worried about being confronted by someone. I like the checker board pattern on the floor and the select color images. Have a great week.
Thanks Duane and you just have to be confident and explain what you’re doing if approached at all - I would offer to show them the images and send them to them If they liked them or delete if they requested. I wasn’t questioned that day but I do have that contingency if it ever arose. Thanks again and take care 👍🏻
It was great for me to see such a faraway and exotic land haha I just got back from there half an hour ago! Some good shots there Andrew, nice to follow you around some familiar sights and catch your take on them.'Girl eating lunch kerbside' was a particular favourite from the set, alongside the excellent barber shop framing.
I thought you may recognise this place Dave ;) Enjoyed a brilliant day out and the lunch girl was my favourite - Learned a lot and plenty to put right in the next City adventure - thanks so much and take care
Great images Andrew - even more so considering it was your first attempt. My faves were 4:06 and 9:20. The articulated screen on the D5300 looks really useful for street, as it provides more options to hold the camera at waist height and get the shot more inconspicuously. Would definitely be interested to see more!
Many thanks Robert and really enjoyed the challenge which has whet my appetite for this genre . And yes I will miss that screen when I eventually upgrade - comes in really useful indeed. Much appreciated and thanks again and look forward to your overseas videos soon 🇺🇸
Great work, Andrew! Think I'm a bit shy to bring my camera out and face people...and had a really bad experience once as well. But everyday life is indeed where the people are and we can all count ourselves fortunate that people are out there capturing it as it can all certainly change faster than we can even imagine. Take good care and have a happy weekend. Bruce and Otis
I think that you just have to be confident when on the streets Bruce and if ever I was challenged I would explain what I was doing and offer to show them the image or delete the file if they so requested - I'm sure that I will get questioned at some point but I am prepared. Thanks for watching and take care guys :)
I'd have loved to come with you on this one. This kind of urban photography really gets your creative juices flowing as you demonstrated in this inspiring video, Andrew. Terrific job which got a full watch from me. 👍
Many many thanks and having now tried this out I’ve certainly got the taste for more street photography adventures! Learned a lot and as they say practice makes perfect so more practice it has to be - much appreciated and thanks again 👍🏻
You crushed mate. You have seen more of Manchester than me and I’m only 1hr drive from it. 😂 fantastic street photography, you captured the story in each image perfectly.
Great video Andrew! This was really interesting to see you do this type of photography, I've been contemplating doing one myself and this might just give me the motivation to do so! Very brave to leave your other camera lying around unattended to film yourself though, not sure I will be doing that here! I got a bit anxietal every time you walked away from your vlogging camera. I'm not as familiar with Manchester as Dave is but I was able to pick out quite a few spots that I've been to as well, especially along the tram lines. Some really amazing images in here. I think my favorites would have to be the two ladies in the colorful dresses 2:51, the couple in the restaurant 3:56, and the girl eating lunch 6:37. Beautiful city, amazing architecture - you captured it and the human element as well, great storytelling with your images. I've always thought Liverpool would be a great place for street photography - along the waterfront near the Liver building, the Beatles statue, the dock areas, as well as Liverpool One. Great stuff as always my friend, really enjoyed it. Hope you are pushing through this tough weekend over there. Take care!
Many thanks Paul and great all round comments which, as always, are much appreciated. It was a reasonably quiet Tuesday in town and I felt comfortable with positioning the vloging camera in certain spots - to be honest nobody was giving a fig about what I was doing - everyone in their own worlds - I was never asked about my photography until right at the end of the day when at the train station some teenagers came over and interrupted my outro ! Very pleasant kids and I think I picked up a sub or two ha ha. I like your choices with my fave being the kerbside lady eating lunch - loved the moment and the light and shadow in that one. It was a huge challenge and I learned plenty which I can maybe share in the next one - One big challenge (with the vlog rather than the photography) was audio - the GoPro Hero 3 sound is crap and i ditched almost all that sound as it was so poor so I'm looking for a decent stand alone outdoor audio recorder (any suggestions welcome btw) As for the next one it could well be Liverpool or Leeds as my daughter lives there - both have great opportunities. We went to London yesterday hence the late reply but yes all good thanks and thanks once more - all the best mate :)
Hi Andrew Just found your channel - 👍👍 I see that you don’t spend much time talking about the gear, but can I ask what L-bracket you use for your D5300? I cannot find one with an antirotation lip. New subscriber 😀
@@MrDunk66 no worries - I hear the Three Legged Thing do a good L bracket but I’ve not checked out compatibility with the Nikon. Something I’ll be looking to get and need to do some research 🧐
@@AndrewHamiltonPhotography It will be difficult to find one dedicated to the D5300. Soif you have an Arca Swiss tripod head, if I was you, I would try a cheap one from ebay before spending top dollar. None of the universal types will probably be 100% satisfactory. Look out for one with a low lip on the rear, they are very hard to find. The camera is light weight so flopping the head over for portraits with short to medium DX lenses is probably perfectly fine, and your long lens will have a rotating collar so it sits on the top
This camera is still very capable even at 2023. Use it with my fashion streetphotoshoot, and it's 3D tracking is absolutely phenomenal for it's age. Most images came out sharp using burst and 3D tracking
It’s a great DSLR which has provided me with many years of photography enjoyment. It has all the features one would expect from Nikon , is easy to use , has a great flip screen and GPS function which is great for geo tagging images. I have a good selection of lenses to compliment the various scenarios I come across when out in the field. Ultimately it’s all about the eye of the photographer , choosing a good composition and capturing it in the best conditions which may be just a smart phone or full frame mirror less camera. Practice practice Practice would be my best recommendation and focus on mastering the art of photography and familiarity with your gear regardless of what camera you own. Thanks for watching :)

Thanks so much Andrew and it's not easy for sure ! Yeah I've seen the High level Bridge and can see the similarities which reminds me Newcastle would be a great place to shoot! I stuck with the 35mm for a few hours and then switched out and then was messing about so yes, maybe just take one indeed. Some terrific shots Andrew.
Brilliant sketch about my old home town. Coincidentally I also own a Nikon D5300 and a 35mm f1.8 DX lens. Thanks Andrew.
Glad you enjoyed a trip down memory lane Nigel and I love this body and lens for street photography! Thanks for watching and much appreciated 👍🏻😊
Love the photos you took. Very beautiful sharing and learn lots. Thank you for wonderful sharing 😍❤️👍👍
