Canceling a 16K order isn't just unprofessional it can shut down a small business. That's disgusting!
I hope In the future she will get half of the cost of a large order up front as a deposit.
Big business taking the direct approach to off small businesses. Hiding behind the government regulations they generate wasn't enough.
Elon didn’t do it, but I bet he can fire who did.
Poor business practices by not taking a deposit for such a large order
@@Tavz1111 Still, shitty behavior.
When taking big orders there should be an agreement of non-refundable deposit.
yea she has become too successful and needs to change her policies.
That's how I run my business and pretty happy when they cancel. You make money and do nothing.
Usually there is. She should’ve been smart.
As a small business, you almost never turn down a large corporation. And she took orders from other large corporations before.
Half upfront to start the order. It's like this with any bakery or catering service.
So happy her neighbors helped her, now that's community support.
wonderful community
She canceled orders on regular customers.
If a multi-billion company places an order, you’d think they would follow through.
Deposit or no deposit.
it was one person who works at tesla, not the entire company. I suspect the person who made this poor choice has been let go for doing something so callous.
How do you know it was a Tesla employee and not a prankster or angry Democrat on the war path against Elon? Show me the proof ! Who orders thousands of pies? Nobody … This is a scam or political attack on Tesla.
Yea, that’s not at all how things work.. especially with massive corporations. No PO, no guarantee. No contract, no order.
You’re dealing with a MASSIVELY complex accounting system. If it was as simple as that, you’d have employees ordering all types of nonsense all the time digging the company into bankruptcy and also creating a lot of fraud/theft.
Elon said on X that they're going to make it right.
@@josh_m How?
thats why you charge when they place such a big order. put a non refund deposit.
Hell, next time tesla wants to place an order, make them pay up front.

Wait, 16K worth of pies with no deposit. Sounds like this order was never meant to be paid
Or not officially ordered. You would think they had a written communication for an order this big.
That's what the bakery gets for, thinking they can trust a billion dollar business without a contract.
How many companies are going to use this vendor now? You're putting your job on the line if they decide to go to the media if something goes wrong. It's unprofessional to say the least.
Ah yes. Circumvent all blame from Tesla...
@@stuartburns8657 It could have been handled better. I deal with vendors all the time and never has it ever come to something like this. It should have been worked out internally. I would block this vendor from being used again. Plenty of small businesses would love to get a corporate account where they know they won't get stiffed.
Instead of helping and supporting small businesses, large corporations and billionaires always hurt them.
Not always
@@eileenmcdonald1599yes always, there's a reason they become big
Think before you type…in addition to the 120,000 direct employees of Musk owned companies there are hundreds of thousands of jobs created in the supply chain companies that support his companies…but ya know, Elon bad🤣
Honestly, I would ask for a (nonrefundable) downpayment if the order is that big
I would request a full payment from Tesla, beforehand....hahaha
the way it works with large companies ordering from small companies is that the small company is completely at the mercy of the large one.
I've worked for several small companies providing consultancy services to multinationals. Most times you get shafted. Bills get paid late, sometimes not at all. Customer changes the contract to a lower rate unilaterally without prior notice.
If you complain you lose the contract completely and effectively are out of business as you now have half your staff or worse without a paying customer.
California law recognizes verbal contracts (with evidence). If the nice lady has voice messages or emails placing the order Tesla is on the hook for any expenses incurred to fill that order before cancellation.
If you’d listened, you’d know that Tesla has already said they are going to pay for it.
it was canceled a few days prior... sure its sad for her but if there was no agreement on cancelation clause then tesla isnt liable... i am sure you have bought something from amazon used it and decided to return it, now the seller is out of money because they cant resale the item. It is the same if you purchase and didn't use it the seller still lose money because of the return shipping cost
They said that the person who mentioned the order wasn't authorized to place any order. I suspect she told the pie company that she is going to get authorization and paper work in order and the pie company jumped on the potential order. Then the employee who called in probably said, it's a no go and the pie company was stuck with all the ingredients.
@@juliahello6673 No, Elon said that. Maybe he will and maybe he won't.
@@temujinkhan6326 Returns are at the discretion of the seller. There is no legal requirement to accept returns for fit items. It is done as a courtesy and good business practice. Amazon has a warehouse where they market returns and recondition products. Didn't know that, did ya?
Please people, always buy local first. We are in the same neighborhood. Our kids are friends with your kids and we support local community events and businesses too. Thank you!
You mean the local business that cancelled local customer orders to take a big order from a scummy corporation?
Whay does buying local have to do with this story?
@@eileenmcdonald1599 that it was the LOCAL community that stepped up to cover for an international business that couldn't care less about hurting a local business. think before you buy. think about how your money gets spent when you support local businesses versus just buying corporate products.
People who don't know how to cook have no idea as to the amount of time, effort, and money that goes into preparing something. It's like calling someone who's invited you to dinner an hour before and saying 'my five kids are coming too.'
Actually (based on an unfortunately true story), *it's more like the person saying them **_AND their five kids_** are coming to dinner, and then an hour before, they call and say the kids' Dad picked them up so only she is coming.* Now, you've spent an extra $170 on food for people that aren't coming. And you can't eat much so now the food will go to waste. (can you tell I'm still pissed off at her? 🤫)
Nothing surprises me about Elon anymore. If this didn’t go viral they would have happily stiffed this woman.
Once again musk doesn’t work for Tesla, he’s is simple a shareholder, but you probably already know that. Why is musk name even coming up in the story. Because someone doesn’t like him and wants to manipulate people to think musk is sitting in his office thinking of ways to screw over a small business.
He didn't stiff this uneducated baker.
@mindfornication4fun But one of his bootlickers did. Tomato Tomato.
There are some amazingly kind people in the world and the people in that line are the perfect example
Exactly we usually don’t see them, but there are plenty around. I live in another country otherwise I would support them, as I grew up in a Restaurant, and catering business, I understand the hard work and money involved in doing business before you even get paid.
The baker should post this prominently on the Net and in their shop: "YOU ORDER, YOU PAY."

She could have handed them out as appreciation to her customer base in the name of Tesla to honor of Black history.
$16,000 for a small bakery like hers is a lot, for Tesla it takes half a second to make that much.
Tesla will be asked for an upfront deposit by any small business they orders from.

*It seems to me that for a small business owner like Ms. Rasetarinera receives an order that is so disproportionately "out of the ordinary" that the business would have gotten some sort of contractual agreement that tesla would HAVE to put up a deposit of some sort; such as AT LEAST SAY 30% of the total of the order......*
this is a weird story, im a caterer for over 15yrs, never heard of anyone taking an order like that without a deposit that covers the food cost.. otherwise you will go out of business. people cancel even when theyve signed a contract and then ask for the deposit back..
The pie order was $9k less than a replacement Tesla battery. If Tesla can't make this right, then they have bigger issues than they know.
The idiot baker needs to take some business classes
These companies often do this, some underling places the order, then some jerk manager cancels it. They don't care about the chaos they create for other people. Always charge these clowns a Deposit before you do any work.
Wonder if canceled because not a black owned business.
@@erniejones5008probably. Or someone placed an order they weren't allowed to place, and a supervisor or higher level manager decided to cancel because of that.
Have seen that happen more than once when working for major corporations.
Lower level managers have a very strict set of rules they have to follow when ordering stuff, and a low budget platform.
Everything outside that MUST get prior approval, but sometimes the lower level manager will place the order first and ask for permission later, assuming it will be granted.
She should always demand non-refundable deposits for orders that size.

Yeah, I really would’ve thought that they’d take a down payment for at least the cost of ingredients. The business should re-evaluate their process for large orders. The whole thing could’ve been a lot less impactful then, most companies aren’t going to just abandon thousands lol

@@nboddie1036 this story was reported on multiple times in a matter of a few days. The media did at least 2 maybe 3 follow up reports. This is hardly earth shattering news. It’s obvious someone at Tesla with no real authority stepped out of line and made a mess but the media has made this seem like the entire Tesla organization was behind this. Report it then let it live online, but there were several reports about this. The current and former mayor went to visit the store obviously to show that they care more then musk. It’s so blatantly obvious you miss it because you want to. How about a story about publicly funded hybrid VTA cars sitting behind a covered fence for years without being used or maintained. the city wants to sell them and now the city needs public money to sell them. That story got a once over then found a place online. There are no follow ups with the mayor or people from VTA. Let’s be totally honest. While a bakery in San Jose admittedly got screwed over it gets at least 2 follow reports to show the public support… is that really necessary?? Come on, this is about trying to shame musk more then it’s about the business owner and her troubles. The left wing media and by extension its followers see musk as a threat and making him the bad guy can keep the followers on edge. It’s an obvious tactic to distort the reality of Tesla and musk. Wake up dude it’s not about pies or public support for a mistreated business owner It’s more then that, way more then that.

It's nice they got local support but everyone knows corporate accounts is where the money is made. I'm sure they lost a customer in life from Tesla and many other large corporations. I'm glad this bakery won out in the end with all the free publicity and extra business. I bet many of today's customers had never heard of this bakery two days ago.
I’m amazed by the kindness people still exhibit !
Tesla is too big to fail? Really?
Tesla should've paid the $16k anyways and if they didn't want the pies -- just give it away.

He's gonna order 10k pies and then cancel on the day of delivery LOL.
I used to work for a jewelry manufacturer and Jim and Tammy Bakker tried to do the same thing. Thankfully the owners of the company were savvy enough to force them to follow through with the sale. We later learned that they were reduced to selling the goods at a flea market. 😆
They should have given her a free Tesla car as compensation.
They don’t want to get sued. Geez. 😂
Its called CYA PR when you have bad press.
Tesla claiming it was throwing a Black History event would’ve been the first red flag.
She's a business person, you need a deposit first before anything.

Two words: nonrefundable deposit. Require it from them every time from now on. If they bitch, remind them of how much grief they got with this.
Don’t know who is in charge of image/damage control at Tesla but they’re doing a lousy job! They could have still bought up all those pies and donated them to whatever charity and made themselves look great ! Instead look at all the Shi-y publicity they got
That’s why I say it’s classic manipulation of the masses. The media don’t like musk because he’s not beholden to they narrative. So they bash musk.
Solution : Request a deposit on orders over a certain threshold. If you need to specially purchase supplies to fulfil an order, you require the money for those supplies before you start cooking.
Whoever ordered that in Tesla needs to be let go. Too costly to keep someone like that.
Always get 1/2 deposits up front always
Don't let Elon help.
What most likely happened is one of the bosses ordered the staff to make this happen, and when they had a solution, someone countermanded it because they wanted to give the business to their cronies from somewhere else... and now the underlings who made the order and the bakery are stuck. I have been in enough corporate meetings and situations to know this is the most likely scenario. Now someones head is going to roll because they have to explain to the BIG BOSS why they changed their mind and caused this social media disaster. I am glad that this is going to work out for them at this bakery... People are good and I support this effort to make it right and help out. Shop local places when you can. Its good for your community and the economy.
Too late Elon. Oh sure now that the owners is doing so well. You just didn’t think it would be nationwide bad publicity. Don’t do anything with him. He doesn’t care. ❤❤
This shows that truly, most people are honest hardworking people, who understand that such
an “unjust action” by Tesla would cause this small family business a serious financial loss!! Bravo to all who responded & bought her pies!!
The irony is that it was supposed to be for a black history event. lol
This was a blessing. If you're a small business, chances are you need more capital to front the purchase of supplies for large-scale orders. In the future, the business owner will be assured of receiving 10 to 15% of the total cost upfront, which is non-refundable. Tesla certainly had the right to cancel, but the timing was poor. I'm glad to see the community center around this business, but there's a valuable business lesson to learn. The news should be telling this story rather than assailing Tesla.
A big corporation screwing over small business not surprised at all. And when small business goes public with the news of being screwed over the community will most likely come to the rescue to fix the amount of owed money.
That is why the shop owner needed to ask for the $ upfront
They cant even use a black company for black history month. There are like 100 black-owned pie companies.
