When he pulled out the bleep I was instantly mentally transported into a 2014 black ops two lobby where everyone’s screaming into their 20$ Walmart headsets and I quite like it
This is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. Been thinking about how I'm going to do my vocals for my weird genre defying music. The voco Loco definitely on my list now.
Might be a dumb question but do people use these for recording or mainly live performances? I'm a rapper and I really dig that canyon pedal but is it worth it if I'm mainly just recording? I imagine I could add effects to get my vocals to sound like that but would the pedal be better or like more organic? Also, I dig the TMNT collection 👍🏻
You can def use these for recording! You can find plug-ins on your computer that sound similar to some pedals but it's always going to be a little different. Ultimately, it depends on the specific effect you are looking for. There are just some things that the pedals can do that you'll never get a plug-in to replicate perfectly but on the flip, there are things that computers can do wayyyy better than pedals. I usually end up using both pedal and computer effects most of the time tbh. For rhythmic effects things that I want locked perfectly into the tempo I'll usually lean toward the computer based stuff but for other things that can be looser and a little more experimental I always lean towards the pedals. Overall, I think it never hurts to have access to as many tools as possible in the studio!
I imagine that you can. BUT would be necessary an AB switch to 'un-split' the different signals AND a stereo pedal to duplicate the signal at the end of the chain, sending to a guitar amp and/or andio interface for the vocals, dor exemple
Thanks to you i will buy the prophet! and yes, i have more than one delay and reverb pedals on my set, but hey, delay and reverb never ever can be too much!
I wish I’d find a video presentation of useable classic effects pedals for vocals. These are just a lot of overpriced gadget boutique pedals and many of them just won’t help making any lyrics audible. But alright, good to know they exist.
hello, I'm looking for a pedal for the voice, in priority I would like a very good reverb, a very good distortion and a looper, what would you advise me? Thank you in advance for your answer👍
Recording vocals is pretty straight forward. It's exactly the same as how I recorded the audio for this video to be honest. I'll just run the XLR output from the Voco-Loco into my audio interface and it's good to go! The Voco-Loco is a functioning preamp and even has phantom power so you can run pretty much any mic through it. When playing live it's the same exact thing. The soundtech will just run a line from the Voco-Loco's XLR output into whatever mixer they're using and that's it!
whats the simplest way to get the mic signal into the pedalboard? I've used a xlr to 1/4 adapter and it seems to work well but I didn't expect it to? any thoughts? I was running it into a sanamp then to a chorus after. Sounded surprisingly nice.
I been watching The Weeknd and all these artist perform live with vocal effects and I always wondered how they get these vocal effects for live events and now I know 😎🔥 the part that sucks is now I gotta invest in live gear 😭
Actually this setup is NOT the way it's done. The performers usually don't control any of the stuff this guy is. This is a sound techs nightmare! He at least knows how to set it up well but this is VERY unusual. The sound guy running the main sound system is usually adding all the effects.
Pretty cool pedal effects. These are all sweet for live shows. I need a lot of help. I'm a newbie. I need a couple of pedals for vocals and guitar. I'm all about compression, delays, and reverbs. 😁
So the board has changed quite a bit since I filmed this video. I filmed an update but for whatever reason, this video is getting more attention recently. RUclips is weird as hell lol ANYWAYS I'm not sure my specific signal chain would help you out very much unless you had my exact board. Every setup requires different chains of command I've found from past experience. If you let me know what effects you're hoping to achieve though I'd be happy to give you some tips for how to pull it off.
Hey don’t use the DS1 hot. The volume works almost like an over drive. Keep the distortion and the tone REALLY LOW. Like 2. And then turn volume up to taste. Trust me… try it
Awesome setup. Do you keep this at your feet when performing live, or up on a table? The Voco-Loco & two little black amps really give you total control, very smart.
Hello bro...i would like to know about vocal preamp that you used.its is similar brand can u advice me?because its hard to find same model u used.kndly reply me...thanks
I just did a quick search on Google for the Radial Voco Loco that I use and it seems like a lot of places are still selling it. However, I'm not sure where you are located so maybe it could be harder to find if you are not in America. There really isn't another pedal that I am aware of that is similar to the Voco Loco besides the JHS Colour Box. It is more expensive than the Voco Loco and doesn't have the send/return features but it could be used in a similar set up to mine. You'd probably want to add a DI BOX to the end of the signal chain though so you can still have an XLR out.
@@briansikeshowe thanks man i would like to check out di box..maybe it can help.because i from malaysia.so sometimes its hard to get it some rare stuff.thanks anyway brother..because of your video, now i order mono synth lol.
@@briansikeshowe Hey great video! I’m trying to decide between the vocoloco and JHS colour box v2. Does the lack of send/return features hurt the set up?
im tryna get that rock style and i been researchin a lot, ngl im kinda broke and i been savin a lot of money, well a lot to me. what are some good pedals that will give me that style ?
The sad thing is that we've been in a dang pandemic ever since I finally completed this board so the only video that I have is a "quarantine" live video that we recorded. Better than nothing I guess! Feel free to check it out and my band here: ruclips.net/video/SULHuTwHWHA/видео.html Also, thanks for watching! :-)
It let's you run all the pedals through it. You start your daisy chain off the vocoloco and end there too. Then you can also plug an XLR in for the mic and go out XLR (balanced) to the board or recording interface. It also let's you control the EQ of the signal. It is basically designed for exactly what he is demoing. It's a fancy preamp that helps group the pedals signal to remain consistent.
@@truthwinseverytime8805 what makes you say that he is ending with it also? i don’t see anything that looks like he’s running through it twice, just at the start.
Great video! I would like to ask you something. I am building a vocal pedalboard of my own, but I am having problems with my boss ds-1 and feedback in the rehearsal room (I imagine the problem will be the same when I bring it on stage). How do you do to avoid it? I like the pedal and, anyways I imagine the problem will persist if I just switch it for another overdrive or distortion. Any tips? Thanks! :)
I don't know if this is the same for vocals, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong. But I would imagine adding a noise gate/noise suppressor to your pedal chain would help. Boss makes a noise suppressor, there is also the Decimators which are some of the best. This guy actually covered the MXR one on his chain in the video as well.
Hi @@diamondssd1 , thanks for your answer. I bought the tc electronic's Sentry noise gate. I tried a few of them and this one is the one I found to be better. The feedback problem persisted (I have to add that it is a really small room and we use quite noisy vintage amps for the guitars, so the dbs are allways high). The solution was to mic everything and put in ear monitors for the whole band. The overall sound quality improved by huge steps and the feedback problem was (obviously) gone. On the other hand, I've been having no issues live.
Hello! You could try any pedal you'd like but some pedals may not work as well as others depending on the desired effect. The only pedals I would 100% steer clear of are pedals built specifically for bass and lower frequencies.
I was hoping you'd open with singing with fx so i would know if i want what your teaching. But no, so I jumped ahead to each sampling you give, andcit sounds like fun for Halloween but i didnt hear any singing. Sigh, wasted 5 minutes. Back to searching...
lol this is such a rude comment. This fool went out of his way to break all this shit down and offer experience and advice on a pretty niche topic. And you’re saying you skipped over all of it because he didn’t sing enough and you didn’t like his voice? Think about the words you choose to put out there. That’s fucking rude no way around it. And for the record this video is GREAT. If. You know all this stuff and you’re a vocal pedal board expert, then why are you watching this anyway? I got a lot out of this video, just saying.

Any videos on how to build a pedal board for vocals?
Is voco loco directly going to the board and rest of the pedals as send /receive?? Thanks
