MCMV are roman numerals for 1905. Makes you wonder about little John being buried under a yew tree. Yew trees themselves have an amazing mythology story about them and very often found in grave yards, the roots are said to grow down into the eye sockets of the dead and holds them down to stop them rising up again. Maybe you can find the yew tree as they can live up to 3,000 years and don't forget it was the Yew tree that long bows were made from. Great interesting video.
Thanks Jez…. Hey i like the info in this comment…. Brilliant…. I like stuff like that…. I think i will be giving you a mention in future vlog…. Very interesting 👍…. Thanks so much for watching and most of all commenting 👍👍👍
The building looked so much older than 1905 ...but maybe that is due to the setting and how much nature had started to reclaim it.... Thanks for commenting and I’m glad you enjoyed my vlog 👍👍👍
I remember my dad taking me to see this when i was around 6 years old, almost 40 year ago now. Thanx for the flashbaks i could almost smell the outdoors watching this so vivid. Cheers 👍
Have you tried metal detecting the surrounding farmland ? Or the wood ? I've had some great finds from old Woodlands , I recently found a silver coin of Roman emperor Vespasian* ( 1st century) which was just a few inches away from a copper/alloy thimble from the Tudor era, 15th century (a beehive thimble )
It is highly possible the lintel dated 1905 (MCMV) was part of some restoration work at that period, as the main stonework and the rotted-away flooring points to a building much older than 1905.

Hi Robert. That Insta that I unboxed wasn't mine it belonged to a friend. It's a good job really as I just wasn't impressed by it at all. The points about the grave of Little John are very uplifting. It dispels completely any idea of Robin Hood being a source of fiction. The Grave of ROBIN HOOD Fact and fiction, legend and truth are bound to have become entwined since the days of Robin Hood and I have my own thoughts regarding the burial place. It is entirely plausible that Robin would say in a delirious state of mind “bury me John where the arrow falls”, and I can see Little John helping Robin stand at the window, who, being near to death was unable to complete his last wishes (this is such an emotional image). I think it likely then that Little John would have fired the arrow but would have given Robin the credit for doing so, and Robin may well have been buried where the arrow fell but the spot left unmarked as a safeguard against grave robbers and trophy hunters. The current location would have been created as a place for people to come and pay their respects.
There was a character called little John back in the 12th century, he appears in court records of Middlesbrough. Robin Hood the name was often used as a pseudonym from as early as the tenth century in several parts of England from the Midlands to the North West.
Robert this was fantastic, I had goosebumps... I was waiting for someone to jump out. Walked to the Snow stone weekend, just finishing a video of my walk... Not as good as yours.

I was on the edge of my seat for a while. Nice video feel. Are those forest shots slowed down or did you just move slowly? That stonework on the building certainly makes me feel it’s older than 1905. Great vlog. Robin Hood will always be Richard Greene for me.
Hey thanks Jef..... I was going for the spooky edge of seat thing ...... And yes super slow mo with the Forrest shots...... my Lumix g9 has an amazing super slow mo mode it’s a great feature....... Thanks for commenting Jeff and for watching 👍👍👍
It is strange that the grave of the most popular outlaw in history is in that condition. Robin Hood is a mystery and is his grave. Little John's grave in Hathersage is not the only story about his end. The older story states that he fled to Dublin and from there to Scotland, where he died. This is not the only connection with Scotland and legend about RH. One version of the story says that Robin Hood actualy got sick because one hundred of his men fled to Scotland. After that he was in depression, ill, and went to Kirklees where he was betrayed by his relative.
i understand why people call that forest haunted. even if you dont believe in ghosts or the paranormal, theres no doubt that forest has a weird vibe to it.
I live in huddersfield and have been to that place many a time. I believe the grave has been moved three times as far as i know due to vandals over the years
Fantastic, really enjoyed this!!! Yes I agree Danny, MCMV means 1905 in Roman numerals. The woods looked really dense, and healthy. Great camera work, I would like to take a walk around there some day. Can't wait to tune in next time. Cheers Rob!!
Hi Robert, I think the suggestion was that the arrow flew 600m? I have spoken to a guy who is a long bowman and a sherwood forester and he said that an arrow back in Robins day wouldnt have flown that far? I am only quoting what he said. I would love to go and film where Robin is buried, I have been to Hathersage to film Little Jonhs Grave (my first or second video) shot on an old Samsung 8 phone, and last year went to Edwinstow to film at St Marys church where it is thought Robin and Marion married. I will subscribe to your channel. Thanks for a great video.
The legendary character is supposed to be created out of several different people from different times, compiled together forming folk(out)lore. So going by legends and conglomerate tales cant really get us to one place of one person no matter how and where the name is derived.
The problem with a lot of movies and tv series is that they portray an unreal fantasy existence of Robin and his men, all having a jolly good time enjoying life in Sherwood Forest. These can be very light-heartedly entertaining but realistically life for Robin and his men would have been very hard. The only series I have ever found to convincingly show Robin and his followers in a historically accurate setting is THE LEGEND OF ROBIN HOOD, tv series 1975, starring Martin Potter as Robin. It presents a sad but more plausible ending regarding Robin’s last arrow!
Since England do not honor what they call criminals who are dead and buried That we people honor as Heroes the Heritage Community will not rebuild the site IT would be left up to your commoner people to start up a fund to rebuild the site.
Thanks. I enjoyed going back to one of my favourite places from my Uni days - many a days we would ride out along the canals and stop at the grave for a smoke.
