I am now single and childless. Having my own kids wasn’t in God’s plans for me, BUT he blessed me to be a fabulous aunt! My core group of girlfriends have kids which makes me an aunt to their kids. And my married brother is a father of three and I absolutely love his little stinkers. Both he and my sissy-in-law are great parents. One thing my sister-in-law has been blessed with is having a close group of girlfriends in the state that they moved to not long ago. This allows her many opportunities for dinner dates with the girls, spa dates, and quick trips out of town to visit other friends. She makes time to go out and get her nails done or go read a book at their local Starbucks while my brother tends to the kids. She makes time for herself. My brother on the other hand never makes time for himself. Yes, she is a great Mom, but I also think my brother is Super Dad. Just recently I had a conversation with him and told him he needs to make time for himself. Take a boys trip. Go visit a friend for a weekend. Every parent needs time to decompress. I think it helps you to continue to be a great parent as well as a great spouse. Time away from the kids and your spouse is healthy. And when you get back home, hopefully, your patience clock will have reset and you’re feeling refreshed. We live about three hours from each other now. And I take every opportunity that I can to go and visit and love on them and my nephews and niece. And I’ve told them from the time they had their first child that when I come to visit to take that time for a much needed date night. I don’t mind. As much as I love those kids, some visits I am ready to go! Ok! They can be a lot and they are good kids. So I know being a full-time parent, especially now that everyone is home for the summer, can be more than a handful. And for my core group of girlfriends, I have always offered to babysit. They need date nights too with their hubbies. Aunt Ken to the rescue! Or even dinner dates with the girls, I’m there. Like you said, you were a woman, a friend, and someone trying to figure this thing called life out before you became a Mom. Make sure you nurture her and make sure she’s good so that she can in turn help make you a better Mom. I might not be a Mom, but I’ve been a GREAT friend and sister for over 30 years! And any person who judges you for speaking your truth, venting, or for acting like motherhood ain’t always roses and Cinnabons ain’t a good friend! My wish for you is that you’ll be able to find your own mom circle and some good girlfriends/aunties who can help lessen your load even if just a little. And regardless of everything I just said, I’m sure you are doing your best! Keep pushing forward! Just my thoughts!
