    She lost to IGA six times before winning in the Olympic, on clay! It is a journey. Sabalenka is 26. Queen Wen is only 21. Sabalenka has finally found her winning form in the last couple years.
    BTW, if you didn't watch the entire interview, you might have missed the part about her fighting to get practice court time. Late match caused sub part practice plus not being a star so not getting practice time plus all the traveling between Paris, China, Cincinnati now New York. She is not properly prepared for the US Open. Yes, it sounds like excuses but she didn't say that is why she lost.
    She kept saying she should have done better. I love this girl!

      I don't get the sense that she seems devastated. She just took a bad loss where very few things went her way. Sabelenka is a very powerful player and playing her is like swimming against the tide. If Qin Wen had played her best, she would have a chance of winning . But this was not her day, and once the momentum mounts against her, it was pretty much impossible to turn the tide and come back, as she had done against some other opponents. She seemed to accept the loss pretty philosophically. As she said, she needs to work on some things and play the big points better. She's only 21. I understand Qinwen's disappointment, but I hope she'll look back on her run and realize how far she's come, and that she is absolutely at the level to go all the way at slams. She had one bad game with terrible conditions coming from her last match which was the latest WTA match at the US Open which meant her opponent got 2 more days to rest and practice than she did. She should not let this impact her confidence on what she can do: all the remaining favorites in the quarterfinals/semifinals are players she has recently defeated -- Muchova, Swiatek, Navarro, and in her US Open run, she took down Anisimova and Vekic, the two players who took down Sabalenka on hard courts this summer.
    There's much to work on: being able to refine her skillset (more consistent first serve, a stronger second serve, better return game), deploying more tactics against opponents (she's already quite smart out there but seemed to go into this match trying to out Sabalenka at her own game which was a mistake), these things can help her take the lead in games early, make her tough to catch, and avoid those three set comebacks.
    I can't wait to see what she does in the Asian swing. And the positive of this is that her hunger for that slam will only grow and turn her into a beast.

Zheng has played a lot more sets because she cannot dispose of her opponents easily. The end result was that it was just too much for her to overcome. You cannot try to over power sabalenka, use placement to move her around, use slice shots to keep the ball low. This sabalenka like power, hit the ball hard back at her only play into her strength.

  • @Phoenix-m6i
    @Phoenix-m6i 3 месяца назад +1

    She tried her best tbh. The only ways to best Sabalenka is to 1. Either outhit her in teams of power and rush her eg: Vekic, Anisimova
    2. Or be highly precise in your shots and rarely make errors Eg: Swiatek. In any other scenario Sabalenka will easily take control.
    Zheng had neither of those today. Hopefully she'll not take this loss too hard and will come back stronger 🍀

    The peak ages of the most world's top 20 female players in the recent history are before 24 year old. In other words, Zheng is 21 year old and her performance/skill is still improving rapidly. Therefore, she may need 1-2 more years to prove that she can beat anyone. Sab is five years older than her. And she has much more experience in Grand Slams. Besides, Sab looks like she is in her another peak year. I don't know who can beat Sab right now. Maybe only Iga has a chance.

Some do not want to go on a smaller court. They cannot satisfy all the requests and make everyone happy. It is too bad. Deal with what you get and just make the best of it. Excuses means you lost and do not want to except the fact that she did not rise to the occasion like a true fighter.
