Ah, a blast from the past (at least for me) as RUclips pushed this into my "Must watch" list. I have probably watched all of your amazing videos from the past 2 years, but hadn't gone this far back. Anyway, I love it... such an amazing build especially given the scale. And now I'm going to check out Airfix WWI planes in 1/72.. something I haven't done to date. Cheers!
You built an absolutely stunning model and the stop-motion is just delightful! Getting such a magnificent result out of this kit is no small feat. Bravo!
I don't build too many 1/72 aircraft, old eyes and arthritic fingers, but I am getting one of those! What a beautiful, jewel like model you turned out!
@@TomGrigat possibly I’m not so good on planes so yes probably. I think that was GREAT! Especially your animation I feel very inspired after finding your channel! Thank you very much.
Awesome stop motion format......very creative. Especially like the wired engine....wood grain propeller. ...and nicely painted air crew. Top notch work.Bill.
Superb. I am amazed that you have been able to apply rigging to that level of detail, including to the control surfaces - on a 1:72 scale model! I have struggled badly to make a simple Airfix Hannover CL3a, even the thought of rigging it is beyond me. Definitely subscribing to this channel, I need to try and learn more about how you achieve such wonderful results :-)
I think I am more impressed by your stop motion techniques than by the build. I do model build videos but not anywhere near this level. I salute you. Just out of curiosity, how long does it take to produce a video like this. I am guessing a week at least.
Thanks Tom for continuing to inspire us with your work. I love the BE 2c and this video is a favourite. A couple of questions... did you pre-shade the wings with brown pencil? And which white primer do you use? Cheers.
I'm glad you like my work - yes, I preshaded with a brown pencil. That day I tried a different way. My favorite primers are white, grey and black from alclad II. Their usage depends on the next steps. Here I used the white one.
I have never done modeling my whole life, but it appears to me that to get my hands on a model of the BE2 I'm afraid I'm going to have to model and paint it myself. Any tips for a beginner with this set? Where do you get all your details from?
Would it be possible for you too show how you paint the wooden interior? I know that the airfix kit doesn't mold grain into the fuselage, yet your's come out extremely nicely.
I'm glad you like it. I used wood grain decals from "Uschi van der Rosten" for the simulation - like I did it for my Gotha Projekt from Roden. Here you might get a better impression how I did it: ruclips.net/video/x_ZIQdA04-M/видео.html I normally take alu foil, press it with toothpicks at the different corners and edges to get the shape of the wood area I need. Thanks I take the foil as a shape guide and cut out the specific decals according to it. The background will be painted with wood colour first and accentuate with darker colour after. When dried the decals could be placed...
Very nice video here. It is interesting that it seems that you put the wing struts on the underside of the top wing first. I have a few questions if you don't mind please: First of all at around 0:27 in the video, what is that neat little grey device called that you are using to help fix the struts in place? Also regarding the rigging, how did you secure the rigging thread to this underside of the top wing, around the struts. Were they just superglued? What fabric do you use for the rigging also please? Thank you very much.
Thank you for your request. The little "helper", I used for the struts, is part of the airfix kit and is the best tool I've every been supported with! My order of assembling is exactly how the plan shows: first fixing the struts on the top wing, placing the rigging ... I drilled 0.3 mm holes in the wings, placed the rigging material and glued it with cyanoacrylate. The rigging material I used is "Rig that thing" from "Uschi van der Rosten". It's some kind of very tiny flexible rubber material which holds it's tension during the assembling process and after. I use it for every rigging purposes in 3 different sizes. Here you can see how I used it for a 1:32 model: ruclips.net/video/pRh3P-QOLT0/видео.html And this may be a useful tutorial for rigging such a plane: ruclips.net/video/bUgLd0gU_rg/видео.html But have in mind turnbuckles and eyelets I used are too big for 1:72 scale; best 1:48 and higher. I hope I've answered your questions ;-)
Thank you. It's good that this little prop comes with the Airfix kit. I thought I did not see eyelets and turnbuckles on this model also, thank you. Regarding the 0.3mm holes that you drilled, did you drill part of the way through the wing, or all the way through to the other side? Thank you.
Best is you drill only little holes - not through the wing. Fill the hole with a tiny drop of superglue (use an applicator, f.e. sewing needle with opened eyelet) and place the tip of the thread in the hole. Other way: you drill the holes through the wings, drag the threads through the holes, fix it and cover it with putty at last. After sanding it in the needed shape you're ready to paint... But this is not the best way for a beautiful model ;-)
Those were wood grain decals especially for scale 1 /72 from "Uschi van der Rosten". They come in sheets and you can cut them to pieces in shapes you need. Very needful product.
Thanks. I used some sort of a blending trick: two photos of a part with and without color were taken at the same position and masked out in a composing program. During the turntable recordings I did the same with appr 25 pictures per each transition...
Hi Tom, just now seeing this video and it's great. I have recently bought this Airfix kit and will be building it up soon. I am curious about the woodgrain floor details applied at :17 s, as these are apparently not part of the kit. Thanks!
Thanks for the information. I can assure you that all your videos are a great inspiration to someone like me, returning to model building after an absence of a few decades!
Hello, I am an old model maker, I do not practice for a long time. I do not remember the much improved model. Is there in the video shown, some added options ? ( all is perfect exept music, i don't like this loud piano...😱)
+Marco Pusch Danke sehr...
achieving this kind of details on a 72 scale is mindblowing
+Andrea Roll Thank you ;-)
Have been stumbling to find your wood painting process in order to do my SG-38, finally found it, thanks for the guildlines👍

Extremely well done lad! Very much appreciate the walkthrough and the way you’ve done the time lapse is amazing! A very well done to you
Thank you
@@TomGrigat np it’s honestly my opinion. Was it your channel where you made the amazing Revell Lancaster?
I've never built a Lancaster yet. Do you mean my B-17G?
@@TomGrigat possibly I’m not so good on planes so yes probably. I think that was GREAT! Especially your animation I feel very inspired after finding your channel! Thank you very much.
You're welcome 😊
This got me back in to modelling nearly 3 years ago.
Your build is outstanding sir.
Thanks for your kind words 😊
The two thumbs down must be from people jealous of your amazing skills!
Any thumbs down for any of Tom’s videos is a reflection of the person giving those criticisms and not the video.
I have the unmade kit sitting here in front of me, loads of inspiration there. If mine is half that good I'll be delighted with myself! Lovely work!
What an excellent piece of modelling in such a small scale!
Thank you 😊
Fokker Spin and Szarits No. 2 would be a good duo
Mindblowing yet again! The figure painting, the engine detailing and rigging and the wooden finish on the prop! Top class as always!

Beautiful video
Thank you 😊
Wow! Great video! If I could build one this fast, I would have a squadron of Airfix BE2c’s!!
I can't wait until this is released, it looks amazing!
+FineKits it is released by January, I think. You may take a look at the airfix-homepage ;-)
+Tom Grigat right, it's just that I'm in the U.S.
+FineKits oh, I see...
I really, really enjoy your videos, THANK YOU for these!

Beautiful! Bravo
+mikeyman466 thanks...
Really amazing build and video. Bravo.
It took some brass cajones to fly in one of those bas boys, let alone dog fight!
Yes, definitely. But the be2 was less of a fighter more a trainer, reconnaissance plane or attacking zeppelins.
PERFECT,JUST PURFECT!
Your work is most inspiring!🤗
I'm very pleased to hear 😊
Now that all looked pretty easy! How hard can it be? 😳
Brilliant Work!!! xx SF

what is that plastic thing you used to hold the wing struts strait with? 0:27 ish of the vid?
It's a very useful jig delivered with the kit. Airfix designed it very intelligent...

No problems ;-) The drill is from the DIY superstore, stainless steel, 10 drills for appr. 7 Euros. I use a brace for it.

Does he actually rig the models so that the flaps an all that bajazz will move?
Very nice. I hate to think about how long it took to do.

Don’t you mean Royal Air Force not royal aircraft factory
It's correct - the "Royal Airforce" was founded after the WWI (1918).
