Thanks MrJohn! Your advice still holds true even for a dryer I bought last year (2023). Had been twisting my brain for a week....opening the secret compartment was not so easy, eventually prised it open from the side with a screwdriver. Full of water and slime...mopped it all up and dried it with kitchen roll, just went through a full drying cycle, nae bother! 🎉❤ now I can cancel the call-out that was scheduled for Friday! Cheers 🕺👍🏼
After going absolutely nuts for days trying to figure out why my dryer would stop every 5 minutes, even though *everything* was cleaned and... Thank you for saving my sanity and the money for a new dryer by telling me this little secret compartment exists. I would have never thought!
OMG ...I made an appointment to have a dryer engineer to come out ..saw your video and it worked so cancelled the engineer ...Thankyou Thankyou THANKYOU you saved my life xxx
Oh youre a lifesaver! Ive had this issue on and off on a similar model and have cleaned every bit i could find with limited succes, but never noticed that compartment!
Thank you so much for putting this video on bought a dryer of someone and the light kept flickering after a minute or two and the secret compartment was full of crap would never of known and kicked off thinking I'd been scammed.
Amazing! I cleaned everything out first, dryer filter fluff, heat exchanger (not even seeing the secret compartment). Started the dryer and it worked well for 2 mins then same container lamp came on. Did a RUclips search and bingo, found your video. Back in again, secret compartment cleaned out, for the first time in getting on for ten years and hey, problem solved! Just what RUclips was created for! Thank you.
Cheers - many thanks. Easy way to get bottom access panel off is to use something like a credit card, drop it in the slot at the front tilt the card back and slide it a little under the access panel. Then pull the 2 clips back and the access panel will rise up
thank you Mr John. I just fixed my dorms dryer instead of having to wait weeks for maintenance to do it. i just cleaned it out with a rag, waiting to see if it goes well. Best.
You have no idea how happy and thankful i am for your video🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽!!! Ive been fighting and fighting with my bosch 4 serie and right after your vid my dryer is working PERFECT!! Once again thank you so so much❤❤❤!
Massive thanks!! Owned our dryer 15 years and never knew this even existed. Had to do a full strip down and take the pump and float switch apart (not massively difficult). Also cleaned out the fluff around and under EVERY orifice, panel, plate, etc. Seriously runs like a new dryer. Thanks again for the prompt!
FANTASTIC video! I dont have the same bosch mines the "series" edition but concept is the same. I just did this and hallelujah ot worked! Saved me time, money and headache in this freezing weather condition. Thank you ever so much
Thank you so much!!! My flatmates and I live in a rented student house and our landlord is not very helpful, our dryer has been having problems for ages and it kept getting worse even when we tried to clean out the more obvious compartments but now its like brand new!!! Never would have found that compartment and I'm pretty sure its never ever been cleaned, so will be doing that monthly now! Thank you again :)
My drier is a Hoover but after following your advice regards the Bosch, I simply carried out the same process. Only difference is I left the back cover plate in place as it seems to be secured by 2 screws which I think can only be accessed by a dumpy Philips screwdriver. There is a convenient opening though & through this I siphoned out the residue. It worked a treat.
Thank God for blokes with an unreasonable interest in the inside of their tumble dryer. What were you looking for in there, lost pirate treasure? We had exactly this problem today. I’ve be assiduously cleaning the lint trap and heat exchanger, and had no idea about that compartment. Cleaned it out, and the dryer has completed 2 cycles without happening again. Thank you, that video really helped!
Mate! You’re a legend. Thank you for this. Saved me from throwing it out the window after I’ve cleaned it everywhere. I couldn’t find this advice on Bosch’s site or manual 😅
Fantastic - thank you so much! I had cleaned everything and emptied everything but was still getting the container error. I had no idea about that little compartment - but it has fixed the problem and the tumbler is now running sweetly again.
Great video. I thought I would have to call out an engineer and had even priced up a new machine (£400). Saw your video and sorted the problem. Why isn't this info in the owners operation manual?. Thanks for saving me a lot of dosh. 😄
Hello thanks for this, not sure where to get parts from, I be honest though I'm not sure how important the flap/door is anyway... I think the dryer would still work with out it in place... it's not sealed therefore not air/ water tight.
At 3:02 you say "It then levers out'. This didn't prove so easy, but if you hold a short v sharp-ended nail with one of your hands while you're pressing the flap down, the nail can be inserted into the crack and help lever the plate out.
Thanks for the view and the comment. I hope the vid helped. Guess its the first time the hatch has been opened it might be tough. Might be worth using a small suction cup if it's a struggle.
i found that if you push it down in the middle - it bends alot but won't break - then get your finger under where it arches up at the sides. this didn't fix my dryer but i believe this compartment may be a flaw killing tumble dryers at a young age by damaging the pump.
I've given up trying to lever mine out. It's hard enough to get both arms in to pull on the levers while sprawled on the floor but need another hand to try and get the flap to move.
Good question. From what I can work out it's very fine fluff that gets through the condenser, this holds the water and tells a switch in the compartment (that's actually an overflow) that the container is full when it's not. The container at the top has no sensor when it's full it leaks in to the compartment. I hope that helps. I think normally (without the fluff) the water evaporates as part of the drying/heat..
You’re not going to fix the problem by just hoovering the sludge out, you need to take away the side panel and it will reveal the pump unit just to the side of the acces panel… In that pump unit is a sensor and that sensor is probably full of sludge also and you will not get to that with the hoover.. Best way is to take the side panel of and clean the pump unit and sensor and while you’re in there clean the rest that’s accessible…There is a video on youtube that does exactly that job..
Thanks for the comment. I accept your point, however not everyone can access the side pannel but the front will always be accessible. Thanks for the view and the feedback.
Oh wow. That's strange. Maybe try running it empty to get rid of the water.. on high temp too..double check that the trap door in closed properly too. I hope this helps. 🙏
Mine is doing the same, it helped the problem for a week or so now it turns off and says container full after just a few seconds. I can't find anywhere else it's blocked
Oh no, sorry it didn't work, was there lots or 'stuff' in there? It just might need cleaning more, when you have your hand in the compartment, on the left nearly in the corner, there is a floaty switch which needs to be really clean for it to work properly. That switch is the thing that tells the dryer to shut off even though the compartment is not full.
I think I found living piece of sludge in that secret department.Machine has been working for years and no one knew that exists.Thank you.
Ha not good is it! Glad it's sorted!
Absolute legend!! Didn’t know about that compartment and sorted ours right out. Thank you so much.
Thanks Mike glad it helped. Thanks for the support.

I also found it easier to get hidden compartment out if you put dryer on it's back. Actually very light.
great idea, i have to admit its better to have it raised, ours is on the washer.
I'm John as well I never knew about the bottom compartment. Thanks.
No problem John. I hope it helped.
Superb video and guide. Completely watched, very helpful, thank you

Hey John thanks for the comment it's nice to know I have helped 😊 .
Thanks, fixed, who would ever have found that compartment?, mine was full of crud.
Lol don't ask how I found it! Glad it worked for you!!
Cheers fella, saved me a call out charge.
Also take the top off and flush through the black rubber pipe with water it goes into that bottom bit and u can grab more gunk out. 👍
Interesting thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks for this, my flap has a missing hook/clip on it. Any idea what the part is called so I can look into buying a new one? Thanks
Hello thanks for this, not sure where to get parts from, I be honest though I'm not sure how important the flap/door is anyway... I think the dryer would still work with out it in place... it's not sealed therefore not air/ water tight.

Thanks. I wonder how the machine detects the issue. There must be a sensor somewhere?
@simonforbes2453 yes there is, it's in the compartment it needs too be free on 'gunk' and water.
HUGE thanks for this! 👍
You are very welcome, thanks for the comment 😀
Helpful thanks
Welcome, glad it worked.
thanks a ton, all sorted, you are a star
Perfect glad I could help. Thanks for the comment and view!

Ha thanks for the view. Sorry I do tend to rabbit on!! Hope you found it useful!
How do you stop water from entering that secret compartment
Not sure I think it's all part of the condenser, I think it's supposed to be wet?
