    Day 16 here after YEARS of massive coffee drinking. I was drinking over a pot a day every day for 25-30 years...just got sick of being a slave to it and always overdoing it like everything else I do. Was super exhausted last week and yes the hunger got out of control too...feel like I am JUST starting to get my energy back...B vitamins seem to help plus drinking a ton of water. 1 year off is amazing! Congrats!

    Personally struggled with caffeine for many years, peaking at 7-8 double espressos a day (coming down off that took months).
    I've settled at 1 per day max, anything more than that and my tolerance quickly snowballs. I drink it as soon as I wake so it doesn't disrupt my sleep that night.
    Even then I've recently started having no caffeine days, trying at least once a week, to make the days I do take caffeine hit harder. I exercise in the mornings so that single shot espresso really helps get a good session in.
    I've spent extended periods (multiple months) on no coffee, but always felt I was never quite my best self. In controlled moderation I definitely find it a benefit to my life, but one I have to handle with care.
    Side note, many running gels and snacks have caffeine in them. So if you are limiting caffeine you should be careful with what you pick out on runs.

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  2 года назад

      Hi Adam! That was some serious caffeine intake. I’d be off my head after 7 double espressos. It shows though how much you ended up needing to have to get that caffeine buzz.
      I get that some people need that little bit to feel themselves so I don’t blame you for having one per day if you’re in control of it and it doesn’t trigger the bad symptoms off. Thanks for the heads up on the running products! I read the back to make sure and I’ve settled with high5 banana gels and the SiS berry electrolytes which are caffeine free and taste good. I’m glad you’ve found the balance though and feel better for it! Keep going

    You actually inspired me to give this a go to see if I can improve the quality of my sleep! I’ve been off caffeine for maybe 6 weeks now. I wasn’t crazy loaded with caffeine (one strong coffee and two teas a day) but it has made a difference. I did get an awful headache 2/3 days in but otherwise didn’t suffer.
    Just like you I’m dreaming (well, remembering or having lucid dreams) for the first time in years and my Garmin reckons I’ve almost doubled my REM sleep time, it’s really obvious in my sleep stats. I am however having decaf coffee and tea now, I didn’t feel I had something to substitute them with. Decaf is better than I remember it being.

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  2 года назад +2

      Hey that’s good to hear Dom. Getting better sleep makes a huge difference and my Garmin is saying all good things, like yours is. I do have a decaf tea occasionally but haven’t had decaf coffee yet, do you feel anything from the coffee? I’ve been tempted a few times and looked for the coffee with the least amount of caffeine which is called Swiss water decaf process but I’m yet to try it. I might now I’ve made it to a year. Nice one mate, I’m glad its made a difference.

    • @dom_leary

      @@StevoRuns I don't feel any buzz from the coffee and it's not as good as the real thing but it scratches that itch in the morning and is pretty good. The one I use (the only whole beans one I could find) is swiss water process allegedly though they don't make that obvious. I don't miss the caffeine in tea at all though. Well done on being caffeine free for a year mate.

    Congrats mate and thanks for sharing. I'm in the process of quitting coffee but my process is a bit unique. I was a 3 cups a day coffee drinker, sometimes I would sub energy drinks for coffee but basically I was doing 3 "doses" of caffeine per day for many years. I decided to quit after I realized this wasn't good for me but I had no major health issues so instead of cold turkey, I decided to do the long game weening off process. The first month I did 2 cups instead of 3, the odd day I would do 3 cups but kept it to 2 for about 27 out of the 31 days that month. I didn't notice any withdrawls or side effects the first month. The second month I took the next step of doing 1 cup per day with the occasional 2 cup day. I felt some mild symptoms of what you were experiencing, headaches, fatigue, etc but no drastic changes. I've just started month 3, this month I'm doing 1 cup per week!, basically a cheat day but roughly 26 out of the next 30 days will be completely coffee free! I then plan on Month 4 being 100% Caffeine Free!

      Hey Sudriyanto! I’ve not looked into the alcohol consumption and how much is tolerable as I’m scared I’ll have to make myself stop drinking 😂 and we need some vices in our lives don’t we?! I’d say, if you ain’t waking up too rough to get your morning run in then that’s fine. I always go out even if I feel a hangover and it sometimes help clear it anyway. I try and keep it to weekends only too and everyone should try to be conscious of their alcohol intake for general health reasons. Cheers 👍🏼

    3 days off now, and the dreams are insanely vivid, and not all in a good way lol. The headaches are mild though, but i feel a bit anxious. does anyone have more anxiety from quitting caffeine? cuz i know quitting is supposed to do the opposite

    • @StevoRuns

      The dreams are mad ain’t they! I think the anxiety is part of the process buddy and it will wear off as your body gets used to going without caffeine… hopefully anyway.

    How should I quit from here ?

      Hey Jamie, thank you very much I’m glad you enjoyed the vid. It doesn’t sound like you are too far away from quitting with your intake now. To be honest, I love the taste too and have recently started having some decaf. I know there is a bit of caffeine in decaf but I have a little enough amount that it doesn’t trigger any symptoms or disrupt my sleep so I’m happy doing it. Could this work for you? If not, I would dwindle the small amount you do have out by having it every other day, then every 3 days etc down to just once a week and then just stop. See how that goes. Tapering down seems the best way to go without shocking your body and brain and just getting used to less until it’s gone for good. Best of luck to you, it will be totally worth it!

      Sorry for the late reply! I’ve not gone back fully but I must admit I do have some decaf but not enough to make me feel anything from it. That’s mainly because of the shit drinks I get to choose from now just ain’t good enough 😂 if it makes me feel like I used do I’ll happily stop the decaf too now.

    Coffee, in MODERATE amounts, (2-3 cups/day), is actually GOOD for you. (the LIVER) :-)

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  2 года назад +6

      Maybe so, but it does have downsides too. If it makes you sleep badly and gives you headaches then you’re better off without. Your liver functions great anyway with just water. Pros and cons I guess. If you feel good drinking coffee then I’d say go for it.

      @@brianmcnary3960On the contrary. I have listened to the researchers, the doctors on their podcasts who clearly stated that coffee, in moderate amounts, is actually good for you. I'm obviously talking about those studies NOT sponsored by coffee companies.
