I wish they had his amputation in the movie. It makes more sense for him being slower and more vulnerable later, katniss’ felt need to protect him most, and the line “if you can stop looking at me like I’m wounded, I can stop acting like it.”
He did, but in the book he got a "prosthetic" that blended with his skin.. katniss said it looked almost human ... Similar to how she got her eardrum replaced .. they replaced his leg in the book therefore they did the same in the movie
I’m one that prefers when movies are more true to the book, so there’s that but also in the book (I haven’t watched the movie so I don’t know if this was included) he gets a bad infection in his leg that ends up really important to the overall story
Explanation: Peeta's leg wound from Cato was mostly healed from the miracle cream (edit: medicine administered via hypodermic needle) that Katniss risked her life to acquire from the cornucopia banquet. Then the mutts sliced his leg. Katniss tied a tourniquet to slow down blood flow. When applied, tourniquets should be taken off within 2 hours to minimize damage to limb. However, the gamemakers dragged out the game because they wanted Katniss to kill Cato. The mutts were just there to add horror and prolong the torture. Then of course, the gamemakers revoked the rule change because they wanted Peeta or Katniss to eliminate the other. Refusing to harm Katniss, Peeta takes off the tourniquet (which was applied for way longer than 2 hrs) so he would bleed out and make Katniss a victor. However, because of the nightlock berries, they both lived. So yes, Peeta lost his leg in the books, but he got to keep his life. Also, Katniss was deaf in one ear after she blew up the Career's supplies. The Capitol was able to fix her hearing, but not Peeta's destroyed leg.
I was forced to read the books for class before the movies came out in the 4th grade. I watched the movie and was wondering that the fuck happened to the leg scene.
@@oxnerd??? I was in the 4th grade when the first movie came out, and our Lit teacher made us read the first book in the same year. So I don't see why you'd think they're lying. 😂✋🏼 I'm 22, and was 11/12 then. The THG series is YA Fiction- it's believable enough for me since I went through the same thing lol

In the 74th hunger games, Peeta was cut by Cato I think and the cut was super deep and eventually got infected despite Katniss best efforts to stop it and when they won the games the doctors chopped the infected part of Peetas leg off leaving a metal prosthetic in its place.
for anyone who’s confused, as we all know in the movie Peeta got hurt on one of his legs but he does have both of his legs, but in the book, when he hurt his leg he ended up getting a prosthetic leg because in one of the scenes he got scratched or something like that. but yeah hopefully that cleared stuff up
If anyone who doesnt understand lemme explain: So in the first movie(the 76th annual hunger games) Peeta got stabbed/cut on his leg, it was very deep it had nearly touched the bone, it had eventually become infected after the games he had to cut it off. Once he had cut it, they (the doctors or whoever cut the leg)had put a metal leg there instead but it wasnt really shown in the films but in the books. Thats why in part 2 (the movie and films) whenever he ran, he fell bc he was still trynna get used to the metal leg. There you go. I was fine with the idea that his leg healed as opposed to needing a prosthetic. It saved the production/props team a lot of money that was put to more important aspects of the movie like the set design or good equipment
Peeta lost his leg from Cato and the Mutts' attack at the end of their first Hunger Games. Thats why Katniss emphasizes how slow Peeta is in the jungle from Catching Fire. I guess it was hard to fake in the movies.
Explanation: SO, in the hunger games books the boy named Peeta wins the hunger games but during the games he has an injury and Katniss (brunette girl/his ally/love interest) puts a tourniquet on his leg to stop the bleeding. Tourniquets can not be left on for more than 2 hours or else it will cause damage to the limb. His tourniquet was left on for well over two hours, damaging his leg severely. He had to get it amputated and Katniss didn't know until she saw his prosthetic during an interview with the Interview man Caesar Flickman. (mind you him and Katniss were 15-17 at the time of these events)
For anyone who doesn’t understand, in the movies when peeta’s leg was cut by Cato, katniss gets cream from the cornucopia at the feast and it is better,(when I watched it I was like what is that bs😂) cos in the books he looses his leg and gets a prosthetic made by the captiol
I think Peeta losing his leg is better left out because the wrap up & chaos of the win came off better on screen. The flow was better. He already was slower & louder etc than Katniss.
I definitely recommend the books if you haven’t! Details like this really add more, since peeta being an amputee really changes things and adds context to why he struggles with running away from the fog and things in catching fire
