  • In this video I show you how to repair the cup holder on your E90 or E92 BMW.
I show you how to open up your cup holder and most importantly not break it while doing so.
The spring inside these cup holders break away from the plastic housing and you will not be able to open the cup holder.
With a couple quick modifications inside you can avoid replacing the cup holder and you can save yourself around $50 USD.
If this is the first video you're catching of mine consider subscribing, I upload regularly.

Thats the most over engineered cup holder in the history of cup holders. But on rare occasions when it does work its a thing of beauty.

I have an 06 Saab 9-3 and that cup holder function is way cooler than this one. Selling Saab bought 330i.

@@bdyt Used to have an 08 9-3 and yes, that cupholder is somehow both over engineered and totally flimsy. But it does look cool...

My E93 is 10 years old next month and they're working like new. Spring action, slide, perfect. But I'm probably over careful with them. ie. I don't bang them, I don't push them in fast or to hard and when they're get wet I don't close them for a few hours.

  • @7digis

I had my left cup holder break. My spring was messed up and I tried unsuccessfully bending it into the correct position too many times and there was not enough spring left. Now it's a manual swap. Nice video!

Nice, thanks. Everything seems to be designed by clockmakers. Mine are still functional on my 2006 E90 but when they go I will be back.

Buy one on Amazon. Step 1. take apart the new one or just remove gear two small clips that slows down the spring. 2. Take out the gear from the old one. Install it onto the new one just the back part. after market parts change size.

Instead of a simple hole in a center console, BMW decides to create a VCR as a cupholder. Over engineering isn't even the right word it's just plain stupid

Saves space in the center console.

You are so correct. Both of my cupholders are not working and after watching this video I will have to leave it to my mechanic to fix, Definite overengineering but they are so cool when working.

I keep a voided plastic cash card on my console to release the cup holder by sliding under the holder to release it.. Almost never use it except for a water bottle occasionally.

@@marcoc4513 I had to make some small cuts on the edges and have an inlay. I got the vivid brand one, make sure to clean the front and back of the trim with 70% isopropyl alcohol so the adhesive sticks. The back is really important so it doesn't peel too!

I had the exact opposite happen in my E93. The left cupholder jammed open somehow after I hit it with some parcel and then would not budge. I figured I broke something and looked to see what. Couldn't figure it out.
Then my girlfriend borrowed the car for a week and she fixed it 🤷‍♂️😃
