How to Record MIDI Music

- In this video, I show you how to start recording your own music in Windows 10, setting up the Alesis VMini USB-MIDI controller and Presonus Studio One 4 Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Starting with the physical setup of the VMini with Windows, and after defining the VMini in Studio One, I record a few chords in four measures of a 5/4 composition. To demonstrate the assignment of a VMini knob, I use the MIDI Learn function of Studio one to map it to the filter cutoff of a synthesizer patch, then show you how to control the sound using the VMini.

Are you using Presonus Studio One 4 "Professional" or "Artist"? Really great info in your video. Thank you!
You're welcome, and thank you. That's a good question - for the video, I was using the demo that Presonus allows you to download, but I believe it has the feature set of the Pro version (for example, I could load the Ueberschall Impact Drums, which is one of the differences between Pro and Artist).

can i play without audio interface? thx
You won't be able to hear any sound from the VMini since it doesn't generate any audio by itself. However, there are other keyboards out there that do have speakers and/or audio out (along with MIDI).

@@propro693 I see. Yes, Studio One (or any DAW/sequencer) will be able to output to the regular sound output of a laptop, so all your instruments in the DAW can play back through your headphones.
