I can't thank you enough. I'm relatively new to Studio One and for a second there I thought my new keyboard was gonna be useless lol. Thanks for such a concise, helpful video!
This was SO helpful. I've been avoiding how to figure this out for 15 years, and your tutorial made it so easy to get value out of old hardware that I had.
I know this vid is old. To top it off, I'm using S1 V2! But I just found this today, and it was a godsend. I got ahold of a neat little 25-yet Synido, and you totally helped me get it going with S1. So Thanks!
This procedure not necessarily work for every controllers. Some controllers use a separate protocol named Mackie for the transport keys (stop, play, record, etc), so in order to use those specific keys you need to create an additional external device using that protocol. Also depending of the OS of your PC ( Windows or MAC) the options you will see could be different.
You my good sir, are a god damn legend. This video was already wonderful and finally got my keyboard keys working properly. And this comment was the cherry on top of the cake. Finally my controller is at 100% working capacity! Thank you!
Thats what i am struggling with right now: Novation LaunchKey 49 (Mackie) and StudioOne 6 Artist. I can record using what i have in software, but not all physical parts are connected, channels overlap,..and so far i can't find any help (maybe blablabla "no problem" and nada). Even with stand-alone plugins (Analogue Lab, Native, Kontakt) the sound just on and off (the connection, buffering or whatever it is). Mapping on Novation site is confusing or "unable" or making everything worse. Of course, i am very new to this (MIDI), ignorant and unexperienced, but there should be some technical support, 'not everyone is born with midi knowledge' ;)
Thanks so much mate!! My nektar impact keyboard was really starting to do my head in after updating studio one and purchasing a new laptop, let the music begin!!
This video helped me out a great deal..I've just started implementing Templates into my work flow to speed things up and realized that I haven't taking full advantage of the faders, knobs, and buttons on my M-Audio Oxygen..this will definitely improve my work flow...Thanks!!!
Great F'n job saved me a huge amount of time. Instead of me having to explain to one of my DAW build clients I simply sent him your video. Big thanks BenoniStudio !
Just what I needed. Had the AKAI MPK249 for a few months. Just added Studio One 5 demo to my HP 2in1 i7. All I need to do is find some time to do the work. Thank you.
Thank you for the video!! You definitely helped me out on certain details and will get back if I'm stuck! I still have and love working working with my my M Audio Axiom
That video was right on time! Been looking for videos to help me set up my controller, but a lot of them didn't really break it down, and explain it, while really demonstrating it the way you did. Too Cool. Appreciate it. 😎🎵🎼🎵🎸🎹🎶🎤🎧🎷🎸🎺
This is the most useful video I've seen this year!! This is better and with more details that that actually using a keyboard profile from Presonus. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Benoni
Excellent video - i am really thankfull to you for uploading this video as i have just purchased launchkey 49 and was searching how to setup midi controls on studio one since last 4-5 days but your video was final for me. thanks a lot its super simple after watching your video . - thanks thanks thanks now i can use all controls in my MIDI launch key 49 ******** i am so happy
Thank you, thank you, thank you so, so much. I have been bashing my head against a brick wall for days now after getting an MPK Mini 3 as now I know that the Presonus Studio One 5 has only the information for the original MPK Mini and with the Mini 3 you must have to 'MIDI learn' it.
Thanks. Solid video that's really helped me in my move from Pro Tools. It'd be nice if Presonus allowed us to edit controller names after they've been entered, to move the buttons to visually match the keyboard's layout, and to have standard Transport icons on the buttons assigned to Transport ... but there's no such thing as perfection :)
Thank you so much for the video. I just installed studio one and was wondering why the heck my controller wasnt responding. Although this is a good way to set things up, it would be much easier if the software recognized things itself, just like others DAWs do.... this seems a little complicated and I don't see the point to it.
I use the same Arturia, did you figure it out? I was able to assign the buttons and Studio One is recognizing them, but if i turn the knobs on the Arturia, it doesn't change the value, just jumping back and forwards a bit :(
This tutorial is Amazing! finally and easy way to understand this midi keyboard thing, evertyhing, went easy, i have that same Axiom 61 Model, the only thing that is still not working for me is the pitch bend wheel, and the mod wheel, maybe someone from here can help me out, am struggling with that. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Awesome Video!!! Subscribed. Can't wait to check out your other videos! This is probably one of the best instructional videos I've seen. Thanks much!!!
Before all, thank you for your clear helpful explanation. I have a few problems with my midi keyboard. First, I can't activate my modulation whell. Second, I don't know how to activate the aftertouch in my novation impulse 61.
Thank you for this very informative video! I am just wondering, will I specifically need a midi keyboard to make this work? I am trying to use my nord keyboard and it doesn't seem to be working. I can assign the different knobs but when I try to manipulate them from my keyboard the assigned action doesn't take effect.
I still hear my keyboard's default sound along with whatever midi is selected. It's also on a lag so it makes it very difficult to record! How do I shut off my midi's native sound?? Even if I mute all the tracks (including the master) I'm still hearing it!
Thaks a lot! I watched it 4 times and finally understood what to do!!! What a fight. for my brains. Just f....up with a Korg Nanokontrol Studio controller, that does not come easy to do the thing!
I wonder if this will work with my old Casio XWP1? I've had it since new and it does have a ton of features, plus it may save me some cash in the long run. My Studio Monitors will arrive tomorrow so it should be awhile before I get everything set up.
Thank you for this tutorial! It was helpful when I started to use Studio one a couple of years ago. Now I have a problem what I can't solve myself. After a reinstallation of Studio one I nedded to remap all midi Knobs and faders again, of course. The problem is when I close an actual session even when I saved it all midi mapping information are lost after reload the saved session. So I am forced to remap all knobs again. How can I fix that?
I have a Roland RD 2000: When I try to learn MOD 1, studio one places 4 knobs instead of a MOD wheel. When I try to learn MOD 2, Studio One doesn't do anything. When I try to learn Pitch/Bend, Studio One places 4 knobs. Also, when I right mouse click on Master Volume (or anything) in Studio One, I do not have a assign option, just Automate.
I can't thank you enough. I'm relatively new to Studio One and for a second there I thought my new keyboard was gonna be useless lol. Thanks for such a concise, helpful video!

Best video ever. THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A TUTORIAL PEOPLE!
The best and easy to digest tutorial ever. Damn these controllers are so complicated but you did everything right in this video. Good Job.
After all these years I finally found someone to explain how to assign midi! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Sure. Enjoy 👍
Bravo! Still works in 2024 for MPC Key 37 and Studio One 7. I just can't use the MPCs knobs but it works for transport buttons Rec, Stop, and Play
Finally a straight forward complete setup tutorial…Alesis QX49 is locked and loaded!!!👍🥂😁

Same here lol. Updates often ruining everything and make certain hardware not work correctly anymore!
thank you! one year after i bought a Alesis V49, now i know how to intigrate these knobs and buttons :D
S1 is really straight forward. But this, I'd never have figured out without your video!
This video helped me out a great deal..I've just started implementing Templates into my work flow to speed things up and realized that I haven't taking full advantage of the faders, knobs, and buttons on my M-Audio Oxygen..this will definitely improve my work flow...Thanks!!!
You don't know how great that this is & please continue to be great !!

Hi! Are you able to use "Pot Pickup or "MIDI Takeover" feature on StudioOne with this way of MIDI controller setup? Because, I cannot.
Thank you very much.
I wonder if this will work with my old Casio XWP1? I've had it since new and it does have a ton of features, plus it may save me some cash in the long run. My Studio Monitors will arrive tomorrow so it should be awhile before I get everything set up.
