He knows the basics but he’s not the best go to guy for S1. Don’t use those ProTools commands they’re longer and more complicated. Like adding a Track shift command N... why!!!! Studio One command is one key “T” for track and the box pops up. Simple you can’t forget T for track. And he never talked about the input control for the beat track to gain stage without moving the fader.
On turning the beat down (or any sounds input level): You turned it down by lowering the Post-Fader, so the input level stays the same before any effects, compressors, EQ's, etc. If you click the wrench and check the "Input Controls" option a knob appears at the top of the tracks. It lowers the volume pre-amp before being sent to any effects. It doesn't matter if you don't intend to place any inserts on the track, but I thought it'd still be good information for people. Love the channel man!
Yeah, it’s Gain Staging 101, using the trim pots!! also right click on the fader just to the right of the values and select “pre fader metering” this can stay on along with your regular scale choice {peak, peak/rms} [[[protools offers many more}]]] so you can see both when monitoring or just see pre fader when muted for visual gain staging, You can also choose to leave on peak hold and choose a display duration if you are as anal as me, lol

Wayne, you can also press the „Z“ on the master bus, to track vocals, it makes more less delay while recording. And you can comping the vocals every time you record on the same channel too! 🙏🏽 for the people who use a universal audio: take out the delay on your interface settings while recording too! Cheers 🙌🏽

Hey man! thanks a lot for making this video! I been watching so many videos on youtube on this topic and they have been so dry & boring! You made it somewhat interesting and fun to watch. Keep it up man! Learnt alot at the same time! Stay safe man!
Instead of pulling the fader down on the beat track S1 has an input control that can be turned on every track that allows you to leave the fader at 0 and gain stage the input of the track signal pre fader. You used to need to use mix tool now it’s built in at the top of each channel you just need to go to the wrench icon in the mixer and turn it on. This is the better way of gain staging because now you don’t touch the fader and later if you need to pull it back more the lower you get on the fader the bigger the drops in dB.
I just purchased a Presonus and a quality XLR microphone for recording audio for videos on my channel and I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to record just vocal audio tracks with this software. My guess is it's designed for creating music and songs and not for video audio. If you can record just audio tracks and export them for adding to videos (in my video editing software) I would love to see a tutorial video on that. But I have learned a ton, about recording audio, from watching your video so thank you.
Thanks man!! I will be returning back to your channel, I'm completely new with studio one. This last week trying to get familiar with it I've been lost with when I hit record nothing starts recording or when I go to play it back nothing is there or ever was recorded, I even made sure my lil recording button was lit in red. I have so much to learn ahhh
Only thing wack about studio one is that when you hit spacebar u can't pick back up where you left off. If I start at a certain point & press stop. I automatically wanna be right back where I had the marker at like Pro Tools.
no problem. yep. learned that by watching joe gilder and jonhny geib from home studio corner and home studio trainer. as well as learning those shortcuts in the file menu and the studio one shortcuts html file that's located in the studio one folder in my documents. yep!
Shortcut ninja baby! Man this was a great tutorial. I really appreciate your clarity, explanations, and overall your positive attitude. Subscribed as hoping for more like this. [I just downloaded this program today, time to jam] Peace my friend.
This was great. It really cleared up how to set the levels for both imported audio tracks and vocal tracks. One question...what dB level should the MAIN fader be set at?
Banger of a video, informative and still charismatic/enjoyable to listen too just got into mixing so I very much appreciate you going over the prerequisite stuff as well because its suprisingly hard to find a comprehensive beginner guide that isn't dry as dust, earned my sub and thankye kindy
I never comment on shit, really appreciate how much work was put into the video. Really liked how you showed what the latency would sound like around 3 mins in
Great instructional video. Love it. I dig your sense of humor. I really liked how you explained the Buffer, Samples, Bits and everything else. That was my favorite part of the video because I have never had that explained before. I just bought a Presonus interface with Studio One software and I really appreciate your video. I have been a Protools guy for years and I am excited that Studio One seems as intuitive as Protools. And I need to learn how to import my Protools settings into Studio One.
Do you have a video on how much gain to use for vocals recording? What's a good amount? And what plug ins can we use to substitute for gain? Dope dope videos bro

I bought a presonus audio interface. got studio one with it. First time handling a production program this was super helpful, thank you brother, much love !!
Skims over the key signature setting for the template, probably the best feature of the whole daw to be able to auto melodyne any sample into a sessions key by itself. Would definitely recommend you look at that setting in more detail. Its very powerful. Literally would not work as well in any other DAW, if they even had it, which they dont.
Suscribed bro!!! Im just a regular rapper that buys beats and creates songs. I always thought i had the talent to make a song I just didn't know how to start because i have FL Studio but they say is better for making beats!! People told me Studio one is way better for recording voice and i thought it would be better using it. Thanks to you i feel now super accesible to making music!! Thank you so much man
Awesome stuff, however as someone who studied pro tools and started using studio one recently, if you don't have shortcuts memorised I think the studio one shortcuts are a bit more intuitive. Most recording shortcuts live in the numpad which makes it very easy for solo instrumentalists to record themselves
I'm not doing the recording but am being recorded with this software and now, for sure, I have more knowledge of how this stuff operates. Very informative and well conveyed tutorial from you Wavy.
