I’ve followed Studio One from the beginning when they explained how they’d assembled various DAW designers to come up with a completely new DAW that was more simple without being considered CHEAP! I love the drag-n-drop features and the ease of navigation overall! I’d strongly suggest upgrading to Studio One 5!! I did so just before the holidays! It’s as PROFESSIONAL as Pro-Tools and Logic in my opinion. Damn excellent work on that beat also!!!!!!
Studio One technically has been around since 2004 when it was called *Kristal Audio Engine* hense the Studio One Logo is acutally the original Kristal Audio logo. I used a demo version of Kristal Audio Engine way back in 2007 when I was still on Cakewalk Sonar. Presonus purchased Kristal Audio assets and changed the name of Kristal Audio Engine to Studio One as farther development. The original developers were former Steinberg Developers hense why studio one looks a whole lot like Cubase.
Glad you tried it out bro. a few tips: option +shift+ R is your friend when you want to do high hat and snare rolls on the fly...you can stack drum samples in sample one too. instead of auditioning samples in the browser, you can also browse the samples within the entire folder the sample came from with the left and right arrows at the top of sample one once you drag the sample in. you can do "tab to transient" like in pro tools when you want to move forward based on transients or next midi note. chord track is amazing. you can chop samples on the fly and throw them in impact xt. extract notes or chords from audio by dragging and dropping the audio to a midi file, it automatically converts it. so many workflow hacks in this daw. you could have also changed the piano roll to drum mode and did note repeats in there and change the probability rates and everything..Keep making heat in there and you might leave logic lol..i love both DAWS because they make workflow so fast.
Just started into music production. I play guitar, piano, bass, drums, and sing. My wife bought me some studio equipment for an early Christmas present because I just lost use of my left arm temporarily from a car wreck and I can’t really play guitar right now. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to use daws and plug ins and midis. Your personality and the fact that you just did all that like you’ve been using this for years has earned you a new sub. Thank you for sharing. And that beat was dope.
you just changed the game for me lol. i been frustrated tryna figure this out cuz im broke and tired of buying beats an studio time. this simple video helped me figure out what frustrates me the most. workin hard on learning how to mix now, but once im tight im pumpin beats out. really appreciate this
I think you might be into something sir. I have many videos using studio one. I enjoyed how you were able to poke around and come up with something quickly. Was really shocked to see you make a video using something I mainly use for beat making, mixing, mastering, sample pack design, and just everything. If you doing tv cues, it’s a gem.
Referencing this two weeks later because I saw you draw with option + draw a line and hadn't seen anyone else do it. Such a good video that it teaches me things two weeks after I've watched it! Makes scales so easy!
Studio One is a beast. I am still using version 4. I've been using this for many years already, Teddy Riley really got me interested in it, and the rest is history. Actually my guy from Sweetwater, but between the both of them, it was a wrap.
I was scrolling through utube looking for beginners guide to using studio one, your video appeared. I didnt realise it does so much, I have around 12 songs i have written myself, the aim is to make my own music😂 im laughing out loud, it sounds so strange, just turned 49 ready for new chapter. Thankyou for your content, your beat was sweet, you are appricated🙏🏽
Studio One has 1 MAIN ADVANTAGE no other DAWs have -> you can set ONE playback buffer size (latency) for all the playback tracks, and ANOTHER „recording“ buffer size for near realtime vst playing or recording audio tracks. So within bigger projects you dont have to struggle with high buffer sizes for clickfree playback while recording with too much latency! S1 is a BEAST 🔥
use your audio interfaces built in mixers to monitor in low latency ..with uad i would mute protools channel to hear the real time vocals from the interface..
You should use Impact XT for your drums especially if you’re a MPC user. You didn’t need to open all those sample one’s. Just open impact and drag the sounds you want onto the 16 pads and make your whole drum kit. You can name your kits and save them as well. Impact has all the same controls as sample one. Each pad can also be routed to the mixer as its own channels for mixing.
@@BoloDaProducer you can put what ever you want in impact. One shots, full melody samples and it gets sliced and spread across all the pads. You open like 7 sample ones to make a drum kit when you can open one impact and load 16 loops or one shots to 5 different banks and trigger the pads like you would with an mpc. It really doesnt get closer to drum machines than the impact.
I recently made the switch to Studio One and im in the same boat as you, learning this daw. Thanks for sharing your struggles. It has given me inspiration.....Salute!
Finally Bolo with Studio One!! I've been wanting this for a while! I think you will like it. And I do have the 5 Pro version.Which has a few upgrades, well worth it(imho) Salute my friend. You killed it!
Yes. You should upgrade. It has some great feature. Very intuitive once you figure your way around the UI. When you create a pattern, you have the option to create additional ones. You'll find the menu within that piano roll menu upper left.. look for the drum 🥁 and piano 🎹 icon.
For drums I really like starting out with an impact Kit, and then using the option to break it out to parts. That way I can get my basic beat idea down quick, and then do the finer edits

The metronome off/on is small triangle like a mouse point on the bottom of the transport bar and the round one is pre-roll count all the recording staft is right there. Thanks
The windows shortcut to select all notes in that pitch is Ctrl + Left Click on that note for the selected midi pattern. Ctrl + Alt + Left Click selects all notes in all patterns on that track.
Bishop bolo! I this is an old video but in studio one you can customize your own shortcuts. I do it all the time. That’s if you didn’t know by now. You can even reassign some shortcuts that already have shortcuts.
I like how you moved through the DAW. I'm a Reason User but downloaded Studio One 5 free version last night just to check it out. It's so different than what I'm used to. But once you get it down it may have a faster work flow.
Mini Grand is one of my favorite VSTs, and is probably my favorite AIR VST. Velvet 2 is also a good shout. I actually used Mini Grand on my last record!
One feature you might like: you can change the piano-roll interface at the bottom (Edit pane) to drum kit interface. There are two small buttons, left of the timeline in the Edit pane they toggle between piano mode and drum mode.
Studio One is DOPE! They continuously make improvements to the program. If you're a Logic user and if I'm not mistaken you can set the keyboard shortcuts to Logic mode...

I’ve been using S1 for like a year and I never knew you could do that Option + click for the hihats, that’s a game changer lmao. Try going inti the MIDI settings to try to set up your MPC. If Studio One doesn’t have it listed you can manually map the controls, which is a pain but you only need to do it once and it will always work.
You can also run the MPC inside Studio One, and route each track out individually to the mixer, so you're basically using the MPC as a standalone, inside Studio One
Bolo I don't know what you're talking about this beat is FIREEEEE! I love S1-4.6. upgrade bro! Also it can help you get a tempo to a loop if you don't know the tempo. If Studio One doesn’t have it listed you can manually map the controls, which is a pain but you only need to do it once and it will always work.
I didn't know that either.
You can also run the MPC inside Studio One, and route each track out individually to the mixer, so you're basically using the MPC as a standalone, inside Studio One
@@davislewislove1314 BINGO! This is the BEST way of doing it... because you still get the workflow of the MPC experience!
Bolo can you do a video using a splice sample and splicing it in studio one 5? Thanks
What up B u on point with that equipment and the track is knockin....peace fam
beat fire bro thank you for the Tutorial on Studio One i know this was two years ago but very helpful Blessings General
Got it. Love it. And that's coming from a die-hard Roland/Sony Sonar CakeWalk 8.5 Producer Man
I use maschine and drag and drop it into studio one! It works for me.
Bolo you can use the impact xt instrument in studio one as well to make your own drumkits. It makes doing rapid repeats on drums and snares easier
Thanks 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Didn’t know that
Best DAW hands down. Been using it since V3
🔥🔥🔥
Yea I love Studio One my homey Jon-John put me on to this DAW, switched from Ableton and never went back...
Bolo I don't know what you're talking about this beat is FIREEEEE! I love S1-4.6. upgrade bro! Also it can help you get a tempo to a loop if you don't know the tempo. Also if you have chords from anywhere, it can find the chords once you extract, this program is better than Protools, I will never use PT in my home studio again. Plus it has the best headroom than any DAW.
