Thank you for the easy fix, and I appreciate the explanation behind the change. PS gets so frusterating when they move/change things for no apparent reasons...
Brent thank you a lot. I've been away from photoshop for 3 years and jaysus have I got some catching up to do. Thanks for this one, it was a quick and easy win win.
Thanks so much... I was so crazy not being able to use the save as with JPEGs.... don't know what was in the mind of the developers to remove that from save as by default...
Thank you for very much the easy fix of jpeg as i have just purchased PS2022 ,unfortunately i can not find how to use colorize as it says it is not available ,or use the tilt shift blur tool, am i doing something wrong as i am a beginner. Please help me if you can . Thank-You
Looks like they don't want you to use lossy JPEG as the primary save format. Lots of applications have Save (native project) vs Export/Copy (other formats). What does Apple have to do with PS on Microsoft Windows?
That's all well and good, but how do I set JPEG as my default save setting. I Hate it that I constantly have to open that menu and it can't be set as default.Dunno why adobe has removed this option as I was using it for pretty much all my photos
I don't have the option to "enable legacy save as" under file handling? No where to be found? Wondering if it's something they took away with the most recent update?
jpegs are smaller file size and quicker to upload to ebay and etsy so i save as a png then open it later in paint3d and save as a jpeg, etsy has a max 5mb upload so i need the smaller jpegs for posters etc
Thanks for the awesome tip, @Brent Hall! Have you also noticed that since the update to 2022, the files saved are substantially larger. For example, if saving a mere three sentence (text only) file it ends up being a whopping 80+ MB... This, too, is a real hassle for me...being I'm storing to USB Flash a lot for school. Any idea how to stop this madness and be able to go back?
Thank you from an old luddite who hates any kind of change. It was great that you could explain why it was changed. So often I rant at companies for doing things I dont like without giving any consideration that the change may have not been entirely down to them. Now I can rant at those bastards at Apple instead 😁😁
Has anyone ever told you you look like Elon musk? I’m sure you herd that before, and thank you for this video the non jpeg thing was really driving me craaazy!
Maybe, but in their defense, they certainly didn't want to make that change. They were forced to do it when Apple made changes to their public api, which sucks.
Thank you! This is really helpful.

Amazing, thank you so much for this. Very helpful.
Thank you but, it worked one time and then reverted back to the 5 or 6 choices. my screen looks just like your screen.
That's all well and good, but how do I set JPEG as my default save setting. I Hate it that I constantly have to open that menu and it can't be set as default.Dunno why adobe has removed this option as I was using it for pretty much all my photos
You need to enable the legacy save options.
Hi, I am running into the problem where I can’t even find preferences under the edit option. I have the Adobe Photoshop # 2025 version.
Thanks for sharing this PSA Brent, much appreciated. Hello from Canada :)
I don't have the option to "enable legacy save as" under file handling? No where to be found? Wondering if it's something they took away with the most recent update?

I can export as a JPEG all day and every day. But I don't use Photoshop. Instead, I use Nikon Capture NX-D and Affinity Photo.
thank you bro..
You think they would have just had the legacy setting as ticked by default rather than confusing people who have been saving as > jpeg for years
Life saver
I'm glad it helped!

Adobe might actually be the most obnoxious company lol
Maybe, but in their defense, they certainly didn't want to make that change. They were forced to do it when Apple made changes to their public api, which sucks.
