  • Tricare!| Everything You Need To Know As A Military Spouse| All your Tricare questions answered!
    If you know anything about joining the military or becoming apart of a military family then you've probably heard about Tricare. Tricare is the health insurance that is offered to military members and their families. There are several different forms of Tricare depending upon your military service background, status, and relationship to an active duty military member. When I first became a military spouse/navy wife, I was so confused about the Tricare insurance system. After talking to serval other military spouses/military wives and insurances representatives, I still could not get a clear answer on whether I should opt into Tricare Prime or Tricare Select. In this video I will be breaking down from my perspective:
    -What Tricare is?
    -The two types of Tricare insurance for military spouses (Tricare Prime and Tricare Select)
    -My experience with both.
    One of the many reasons I decided to start this because I wanted to help other people entering into this military family community. Prior to marrying my Navy sailor and becoming a military wife, I kept wishing I could talk to someone to help me navigate and understand the expectation of being military spouse. One of my goals with my channel is to be a resource and to help other military spouses/wives and partners navigate the transition of being a military wife/spouse.

    What has been your experience using Tricare Prime or Tricare Select?

      I was trying to be TRICARE PRIME but none of the doctors in my area take it so I had to change to TRICARE SELECT… sucks bc my husband’s pay is behind and I have to paid it with my savings

      Omg! I'm sorry to hear that. Tricare Prime can be tricky being that it seems like the pool of doctors off base that take it is hit or miss. Hopefully things get better soon and if not, open season is right around the corner, so if you need to, you can always switch back in the fall.

    We had the same experience. The doulas I reached out to were rude and this is my 1st child as well. The closest available was in Richmond and with no shame I def wanted a Black doula and midwife. They just aren't as available in the 757 through marketing. I'm working on becoming a midwife or doula now though and I hope I can get at least one mom friend to join me. I'm from the piney woods of E. Tx... 757 reminds me of home just more developed. The nurses at dam neck were non informational and combative. Luckily I labored at home and delivered locally. The staff even said had I gone to Portsmouth "it would've been a shit show" her exact words. I'd choose select any and every day for my say in quality of care. Thank you for sharing your experience. ❤❤❤

      You’re welcome 😊 so sorry you had a horrible experience, especially during your first pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my daughter I thought maybe it was me but it’s unfortunate to know that wasn’t the case smh Definitely wish you would have found this sooner because I would have recommended my doula, who’s a black woman based in Virginia Beach. She was amazing and I would recommend her to anyone.
      thank God you and your daughter are healthy and doing well

    Tricare prime dental and eyes are totally different than the general medical care. For general medical care you have to have referral , since prime is hmo style insurance . Tricare select basically is a ppo insurance.

    • @jaleesa.daniels_
      @jaleesa.daniels_  9 месяцев назад

      In my experience with Tricare Prime (again only speaking to my experience) I did have a separate dental plan but don't recall having a separate eye care insurance. Again, as I stated in my video, when I had Prime in the states I was only forced to go in and get a referral when I was pregnant, all my other medical I handled off base.

    I have a question. If I married a soldier in 1987 and divorced in 2004 while he was still a soldier, am I entitled to tricare?

    • @jaleesa.daniels_
      @jaleesa.daniels_  10 месяцев назад +1

      Oooo that I’m not sure about . I’ve heard similar situations where a military marriage ends and the non-military spouse can keep some their spouses benefits once they divorce but I’m not 100% if that’s the case or not.
      I would give Tricare a call and ask. The Tricare Information Number is 1-800-444-5445. The DoN Civilian Benefits Center Number is 1-888-320-2917.
      I hope this helps 😊

    Can I get Kaiser through Tricare?

    • @jaleesa.daniels_
      @jaleesa.daniels_  5 месяцев назад +1

      I want to preface my response by strongly recommending you speak with a Tricare representative as I am not a rep.
      From my knowledge Tricare is operated by Humana Healthcare. So regardless if you are Tricare Prime, select, reserve, etc. it’s all Humana healthcare. Now I have heard of spouses who have Tricare and pay for insurance through there job (so they are covered by two insurance companies), which in those cases they can opt to be covered by Kaiser, Bluecross, etc. through their job along with Tricare that they get through their spouse.
      Again, I would recommend calling Tricare for clarification

    It would be nice if we didn’t need to see a primary care doctor every time to refer us to a doctor 😒

    • @jaleesa.daniels_
      @jaleesa.daniels_  10 месяцев назад +3

      Yea i completely agree, it adds an extra layer of complexity to something that I think should be simple…. Allow everyone to see the doctors they need and feel comfortable getting care from

  • @karanjotgill886
    @karanjotgill886 Год назад +2

    Wrong! You can’t see specialists without referrals from your PCP in prime.

    • @jaleesa.daniels_
      @jaleesa.daniels_  Год назад +2

      From my experience (only speaking for myself) when I was still using Tricare Prime, I did not need a referral to see a doctor off base for the specialty that I needed.So as I stated, when I needed to go to the dentist or get my eyes checked I didn’t have to ask permission. I would imagine if you have to see a heart doctor the base would need to know but to get your teeth cleaned, my base clinic did not require me to ask for a referral.

      Since they are a health insurance provider, I'm sure they can assist you with finding a therapist or provider that treats depression. I have Tricare Select now and I have been seeing a therapist through my insurance for almost three years now.
