This does not work well as volume control knob, as it only twists a few millimeters with high sensitivity, and its drive / software isn't meant to be used for volume control. But, there are large control knobs with usb or bluetooth designed to twist/turn infinitely to control volume or some other single parameter. The Griffin Powermate and Microsoft Surface Dial are the most well known, plus many other generic off brands. Of course they can't control 3D objects but if you want a big volume knob that feels like it belongs to a giant stereo HiFi system then you could pick up one of those, or you can find a lot of instructions on how to build your own.
@@cate01a that’s why you combine it with a track ball mouse. Is just so much more effective, especially been able to assign all your short cuts to all the individual buttons as well as creating your own combinations with it. When it comes to speed, this little thing can’t really match it. I know because I have them both but no longer use this gadget

I recently got a space navigator mouse. I am having trouble setting it up so that when you twist the 3D mouse it rotates the object. Right not when you twist the knob, the object circles around the current view I am in. Can you share the settings you are using to make this work?
What program are you using it on? If you're using blender I know it does this and needs a bit of work to set up. If you got the latest drivers installed it should work right out the box at least for me it did anyway.
From what I know there is support for Sketchup but I don't know about the browser version, if you look on the 3D Connexion website they have a list of supported software, if anything you might be able to map the controls but that would have to be something to look into because I don't really know about that.

Nice but a bit gimmiky when you put it next to a track ball mouse where you can do all that with just your thumb
cant go up/down or rotate it. a ball mouse is 2 axis, this product is 3 axis + 1 axis rotation

Please note that there are 2 rotation centers - one is somewhere in the center of the round knob and the other is at the lowest point of the knob.
