  • I got this really cool little gadget delivered to me a few weeks ago and I've been testing it so here’s a quick review of the 3DConnexion SpaceMouse Wireless and how I use it within my 3D workflow.
As I mentioned in the video, one of the best things about this gadget is that it simplifies the navigation across multiple software making it very smooth and intuitive. Having lots of extra buttons (as the Pro version) is great for customise shortcuts, but you now have access to the custom radial menus (part of the software), so you can have endless shortcuts all within the two buttons that this little device has… and honestly is all you need!
If you want to check out the review of the SpaceMouse PRO version, here it is:

Wow the precision you get in zbrush is quite impressive!

I am using cable version quite a lot. Mainly in Zbrush, Painter and Houdini. In Houdini it is really great because i can change parametres with ordinary mouse and at the same time i can use SpaceMouse to move, zoom and so on. Nice video.

So in Houdini it's completely independent from mouse cursor?

      @KarelChytilArt 2 месяца назад

@@Al1987ac Yes, you can change parametres and at the same time just rotating, panning ... with SpaceMouse .. I also tested it in H 20.5. Sure if you have really huge asset and want to change parametres, there should be a little delay .. but it works perfect. I should check if Vulkan is enabled or how the new Houdini version works :) I am using it for my assets, just moving, rotating and changing number of planks or whatever and watching it.. It is independent. I dont remember the priority if you have more viewports at the same time and use SpaceMouse and ordinary mouse cursor for changing parametres .. but it works for one viewport (if you have 4 at the same time, one is changing):) I am testing it now in older Substance Painter (i have no updates for now) and you can also change parametres with mouse and moving and panning with SpaceMouse at the same time (little laggy, but...). I remember in Blender i had to have cursor in viewport , there was no possibility to change something in outliner or changing parametres because cursor had to be in viewport for Spacemouse working ... but for sculpting I think it is nice :) its maybe one year ago.. i dont know if it works different or not.:)

Appreciate the review Pablo. Quick question, is it possible to press both buttons on the spacemouse at the same time? Example if I map ctrl to 1 button, shift to another, can I press both and click a polygroup to do the typical isolate? Or is this a limitation of the device for some reason?

    •  Месяц назад +1

Yeah you can totally do that... i just tested it with Ctrl and with Shift at the same time and it works.

I hope you're planning to do other reviews like this, for example about your wacom gadgets.
It's really useful to have reviews from skilled 3D artist like you on this products, the majority on YT are from 2D artists.
Also would be really interesting see your work setup.

I do have a review of the wacom tablet in my channel if you want to check it out. ruclips.net/video/q6DLQaBatgQ/видео.html and a couple of cool tricks with the touch screen: ruclips.net/video/ficDk41l5D8/видео.html

this version seems actually better than the more expensive ones because it allows to be closer to the keyboard which you'd need for 3d anyway. As someone who uses both do you feel this can be the case?

    •  2 месяца назад +1

I think is just a matter of getting used to either or. With the pro I'm already used to the buttons but when I was trying the snall one it took me a couple of days to get used to the radial menus so i could use the same shortcuts... So, whichever one you go for, you'll get used to. Maybe the smaller one is better for the size and space that takes up

Woah, didn't know Painter had that "focus mode" feature! May I ask what the shortcut for that while using mouse/keyboard?

Yeah it is pretty handy. You can edither click on the visibility icon from the texture sets window or using the 'Alt + Q'

Could also be handy for simplyfied quadrocopter controls.
