the reflections on the Dreamcast are fantastic, on the PS2 there is no reflection on the rear window, I noticed that in the Dreancast version the car's movement is smoother and with more frames.
@acwbit2368 not really, while the ps2 has lots of hardware effects when it comes to raw power the ps2 is one of the worst in it's generation, even gamecube is actually stronger and it's the reason why nintendo keep using the same hardware for their wii just a little bit upgraded (And I said this as strictly ps2 kid) But ngl part what makes the ps2 sold way more is just the crazy amount of games it had and also the DVD feature which was big back then

Funny how colors are far better on Dreamcast... I wonder if it's because of the Kyro GPU... The only advantage of the PS2 version is drawn distance, but Dreamcast looks better in every other aspect, and has a far better frame rate as well.
The Dreamcast version ""looks"" more beautiful due to the color, but it has a lot of flaws. You only saw more vivid colors and the false reflection lighting in the car, but you didn't even see that on the PS2 we have a superior field of vision and dynamic lighting (pay attention when the car passes under the light and then in the dark area) What if If it weren't for the color of the car, you certainly wouldn't have the same opinion. Even though it ''"looks"" more beautiful on the Dreamcast, it still loses to the PS2 version, which is employing more techniques and dynamic details.
It's not a Kyro, Kyro is the PowerVR3, the DC has a PowerVR2. The PowerVR2 on the PC market was named Neon 250. It had poor drivers but with well optimized games like Quake 3 it competed with the Voodoo 3. Btw it shows that Sega probably made the right choice chosing Videologic's PowerVR2 instead of the 3Dfx's solution Sega America wanted. The american project was probably going to use the Voodoo Banshee, which is twice slower than a Voodoo 3.
It's also much better at gameplay side, yes, zero have few more rivals and few more useless cars but AI of rivals is total garbage in Zero, there is no challenge at all compare to 2 from dreamcast, AI almost full stop at every corner
I had both versions during their releases. I prefer the Dreamcast version, besides the visuals I liked the gameplay better as well. Not sure how many people noticed this, but there was car fatigue so to speak in the PS2 version, meaning after extensive period of driving the same car it would lose some power and acceleration would suffer. It was noticeable and annoying to me, having to going back to the garage or changing cars and starting over.
They actually made that into a proper feature with 3 as you probably know. Oil and water temperature reducing performance. It's ultimately realistic but fun is subjective here.
@@volkte37 I get that, but this being more of an arcade style gameplay, it wasn't fun running into a rare boss to race while not being at full strength. Even a realistic game like Gran Turismo from any era that I'm aware of didn't have such feature after 5 laps at Nurburgring which is a 13 mile track for example.
The feature was in SB2/TXR2 as well, that's when most of the new features got introduced and what we know TXR as of today, the B.A.Ds got introduced here amongst other core features of the franchise in general. The Sub-Leader system didn't come back with how you had to do multiple run throughs of TXR2/SB2 to get all the rivals and all that.
Yellow Ring=Music to cover silence or copyright claimed tracks. Metropolis Street Racer another Dreamcast game. 1. I'll take the TXR2 Dreamcast controller layout over the TXRZ on PS2's layout. I prefer the Right trigger and analog setup. Not to mention those early PS2 Dual Shock 2 controllers have the pressure sensitive face buttons. 2. No auto licenses but the cars match their real world counterparts. Mazda RX-7 and Toyota AE86. Reminds me of the awesome battle in the Initial D manga. 3. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 at least seems more exciting with more road traffic. Zero on the other hand felt boring with mainly empty roads.

Mad how well the DC version stacks up. I do feel this console has to be one of the most underrated consoles of any gen. I do wonder what would have happened if they had some if the 3rd party support the PS2 had. Definitely miss my DC tho
I think i finally can figure out what are the main differences between Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 after so many years. Dreamcast have a very good resolution, colour production and display output which made the visuals so clean and eye popping on it. The PlayStation 2 have more special effects and higher polygon count that can allow it to create more complex and intricate enviroments in its games.
Too few people understand the words we write and speak reveal more of ourselves instead of the people we are trying to bring into attention. The intent is very important and is often the first thing people throw away together with their own character when they try to interact with others. Just putting it here for people who always live life finding and fighting battle with all things in this world and cannot find peace and happiness in the end.
Dreamcast looks overall better with improved color saturation (PS2 looks very dull) AA, and cleaner ground textures. Now, the PS2 loading times is much better and I thought the FMV looked better on the PS2 as well, DC was abit grainy. The DC also sounds louder, not surprised as the Yamaha chip I think had additional 16 channels. Not sure what else advantage it had, but I've heard several DC games sound better than the PS2. Not much, but there's a difference. Besides the loading times, visually and from an audio perpective, I give it to the DC.
I just noticed the PS2 is also letterbox. Probably using one of it's odd resolutions like 512X384 or 640X448, 512X224 interlaced. Yeah, DC is the overall winner if you can put up with the loading times.
Youre very ignorant...the Ps2 was supposed to have hardware Antialiasing, but it is broken, its a design flaw of the hardware engineers, but in the original Docs the console had hardware AA

This game was an early release on PS2 so the hardware was hard to apprehend, it's still a very good effort, but Genki's later games absolutely blows this one out of the water.

DC for the win. The saturation and the specular lighting on the models look much better. It looms much sharper as well. PS2 less saturated, blurry and softer looking. I loved this game. I use to own TXR 1 on Dreamcast. Thought that was the most immersive racing game ever after NFS.
The overall image is sharper/cleaner with better colors on Dreamcast. The PS2 seems to have a bit more detailed and visible background and environments but the cars look softer and the colors and lighting are not nearly as nice to look at. The PS2 game has a much more "depressed" and "artificial" cg look to it with it's darker and more matte style coloring on the car. The Dreamcast has a nicer eye popping shiny reflectivity like you would expect from a clean car passing under highway street lights and the overall ambiance of it looks and feels closer to real night time city driving. Dreamcast game also has less "jaggies" aka better antialiasing along the edges of everything. The one lighting effect I find nicer on the PS2 release is the wispy trail tail light effect when the cars rear swerves around. However Dreamcast version has a similar effect but instead of from the car lights it's on all the street lights as they pass by overhead.
@@M1XART Does the Dreamcast game use mip mapping tough? The more pronounced jagginess on the Ps2 game is more likely due to the use of field rendering. I think the Ps2 game is rendering at 32 or 24 bit color depth as it is using field rendering that gives a lot more video memory to spare.
@@jsr734 If you see aliasing on texture surface (not just edges), then Mip-Mapping is not used. Not every Dreamcast game use Mip-Mapping. For example Shenmue 2 mostly does not utize it. On PS2, barely any game used Mip-Mapping. While everyone blaimed lack of Anti-Aliasing, on PS2 the lack of Mip-Mapping was even bigger issue. Even Tekken 5 does not use it, but console is somewhat cabable to do Mip-Mapping (as well as Anti-Aliasing). Not direct hardware support for those, though. (At least Rayman 3 on PS2 HAS Mip-Mapping and looks incredible).
@@M1XART Also the Jack and Dexter games and Rachet and Clank games used mip mapping. The game, Heaven Call from the King, X-Squad and some european racing game i don´t recall the name right now.
Dreamcast era a frente do seu tempo, pena não ter continuado, tinha muito ainda a oferecer, e quem sabe depois dele um Dreamcast 2 para ter concorrido com PS3 e Xbox 360. Att
This is an interesting comparison. This is one of the pairs of comparable games on DC and PS2 in which some would say that the DC's hardware has been pretty much peaked, while the developers started to dig deep into the PS2's hardware. Here, while we can see the Dreamcast's usual pros, like the reduced aliasing, generally better textures, and more vibrant imagery, we can also see the PlayStation 2's pros, like the higher fillrate/draw distance, more polygons, and better/more consistent lighting. Saying which looks better is about as subjective as it could possibly be. On the DC, I love the glossy look on the vehicles, the smoother texturing, and the addition of traffic for filling up the more vibrant scene. But, on the PS2, I love the enhanced draw distance and lighting, and more accurate reflection mapping, which can even be found on certain windows on buildings. I do think people need to chill out when agruing which of these two look better, though I can empathize on both sides. But either way, is it not a safe bet that TXR 0 is showing more graphical fidelity than TXR 2 overall? The increased draw distance is one thing, but the variety of lighting and reflections is very striking, though I don't really mess with the shading on the car when it's in a tunnel. Looks off. The lighting and reflections may be establishing the PS2's better memory capacity, like how there are no short pauses (as far as I know) to load each time you drive long enough, unlike in TXR 2, though at the same time, it is impressive how short the loading is.
The Dreamcast cars look glossy but better then that weird shim glam going on the ps2, tho the ps2 lighting is better when passing light to light. But the Dreamcast lamp lights with the tear drop look, look more real then the ps2 star looking lamp lights
@@tomianz-1242 I don't mind the texture on the ps2, but it's bad reflection just looks comical. They did update the ps2 game tho and added more buildings, something I bet could have easily been done on the dc if it had the extra time to cook.
@@Steven-ph6pp I don´t think they could add more stuff to the Dreamcast game, at least not if they wanted to keep the 60fps target. And, really? the ps2 reflections and shadows look more realistic. The Dreamcast game looks more cartoony in comparisson.
The PS2 is using interactive lighting for the most part, seen on the specular highlight on the car. However the car doesn't look as nice as the Dreamcast version with its fake specular lighting; The RX-7 looks like it has a high gloss finish on the DC, the PS2 version looks a bit muddy/ flatter. I don't know if it was the mode chosen for this play through, but the DC version had more traffic on road than the PS2. The PS2 version, being a sequel, goes and refines some of the track/road and background geometry. I had this on the Dreamcast and it was quick fix game, get in and play a session or two.
The person playing this decided to use Free Run mode on the PS2 for whatever reason… 3:38 That’s why there’s no cars on the road compared to the normal Quest mode!

The PS2 version looks a little blurrier, and also has more discreet brightness, although a greater number of polygons is perceived. For its part, the Dreamcast has some unique characteristics, it looks sharper, the textures are more defined and the lighting is more spectacular, however, a smaller number of polygons are seen. Both are very good options for anyone who wants to play this saga... Excellent chapter of VCDecide, greetings and thank you! ❤
Eh. The PS2 has more technically demanding lighting that sacrifices style and aesthetic for a crude stab at actually placing the car in the environment. The Dreamcast version looks like it belongs in an ad, no matter what else is happening. The focused art direction helps the visuals age better, just like Outrun still looks better than Ridge Racer 64.
@@juststatedtheobvious9633 In any case, they are very similar games, whatever version it is, what is worth it is playing it and not so much focusing on minor details.
Many comments here claiming they see more polygons in the PS2 version are evidence of Sony's effective marketing. In practice, the two consoles are very similar. The better resolution of the DC just makes it easier to see polygon edges. Comparing the two frame by frame, there are no real differences in this respect. However, the differences in texture resolution are very clear. The PS2 version has significantly lower resolution textures due to the lack of hardware texture compression.
If you think the PS2 and Dreamcast are similiar hardware, then you understand neither. Sega Retro has sources for their belief that the PS2 out performed Dreamcast in terms of polygon count per second, regardless of multiplat limitations.
@@juststatedtheobvious9633 You perfectly demonstrate how such misconceptions arise and persist. You can't simply compare theoretical figures from completely different architectures and draw relevant conclusions from them. The theoretical number of polygons of the PS2 is higher, but due to the architecture, the VideoLogic graphics chip of the DC is more efficient in drawing polygons and prevents overdrawing. This means that the PS2 will draw polygons that are further away and then paint over them again with polygons that are further forward, thus wasting them. The result in real world games is that you will see a very similar number of polygons on the screen although the technical figures suggest otherwise to the non-technical reader. In addition, Sony's advertising focused heavily on the theoretical polygon performance because that was the only number that was supposedly much better than the DC. But in real games, there's not much difference. Exceptions would be games that only use wireframes, for example, and no shading, lighting or texturing. But how many games do that?
PS2 was pushing more polygons than Dreamcast out of the box. Take a look at the sports games like NFL 2k2 from Sega themselves. If they were so similar Sega wouldn't go the extra mile to tweak the geometry this time, something that wasn't the case in most DC to PS2 games. DC has way better image quality but i much rather have better geometry and lighting than the slightly blocky models and flat lighting that's characteristic from Dreamcast games.
@@yasminesteinbauer8565 Odd. I never referred to Sony's marketing. But thanks for proving you have zero interest in looking up real world triangle counts.
I played through Tokyo Xtreme zero for the first time 100% through about three months ago after literally never playing the series once in my life it was probably the best experience in a racing game that I’ve had , having to track down all the wanderers was a task all in itself the only thing I wish that the PlayStation 2 version had was that rolling car menu screen , I don’t mind the showroom style they did but definitely gives me need for speed underground one vibes and I could see where nfs got the the inspiration for it
The "rolling car" menu is cool. Other than the PS2 game is the better one! The Dreamcast game doesn’t even have japanese license plates. For game that is set in Japan, it’s a turn-off to be honest. 🙁
Dreamcast: - Brighter, more vivid colors - Surface reflections PS2: - Dynamic lighting - Better drawing distance Both have their own strenghts while lacking in aspects both systems are more than capable of performing. The more muted colors of the PS2 game are clearly an stylistic choice, and going by this and its later release date, it can be assumed that other changes were either also stylistic in nature, due to a lack of time to implement the reflections, sacrificing one feature for snother because of a lack of understanding/experience of the console's architecture, or a combination of all of these.
The only thing in the playstation I like better is the skybox, the buildings and the lighting (the reflection is better on Dramcast though) because it gives a better atmosphere of a city that is not dark and empty
Played both on real hardware yesterday so the timing of this video is great. They are both fantastic games, though the PS2 game is better overall due to better AI in races. DC has a nice bright palette, smooth image and its own cool touches, especially the amazing replays. Those car reflections are cool but don't match at all to the action. PS2 has a more muted look but amazing use of light and draw distance. Both are 60fps but Dreamcast slows down a lot, which is a shame. Neither game has anti aliasing. PS2 game is jaggy because of the early issues with field rendering which were fixed pretty quickly. AA didn't really happen back this gen, it was a flicker filter which softened the image. Both games are among my favourites. PS2 is the better overall package though and the best game in the entire series.

Não é normal o PlayStation 2 era um console fraco o mais fraco d averbação mais o marketings da Sony enganou todo mundo. Você perguntava sobre gráficos eles falavam a mas roda filme em dvd
Ok this game looks excellent on both machines for different reasons. Dreamcast is 60fps and the refresh rate on the light reflections is the sam which makes it very impressive. The overall lighting is brighter and doesnt effect the car so the game just feels like a beautiful Arcade game which has its own charm and achieves the mantra of the Dreamcast PS2 has a more cinematic look which is helped by the steady 30fps. The lighting is darker but reacts to the car. The lights reflected on the car are less but more realistic, even displaying perspective as you pass them. That small detail alone gives a huge level of realism
I don't know whats going on with these people. I like both versions and I know Dreamcast ver. has sharper, less jaggy, vivid colors, but in terms of graphical lighting effects the PS2 is far superior and more realistic. The car is dark when in dark spots, and is bright only when passes under lights, it also reflects those lights when passing thought them. On dreamcast the car looks the same all the time with random white dots on it.

Aliasing on actual textures is due lack of Mip-Mapping on PS2. Also color dept was almost every time superior on Dreamcast games.
Y agregaría que al poder usar el vga en dreamcast tiene mejor calidad de imagen, mientras que en ps2 nO se puede

I'm glad u made this so people cab see what a real console look like

txr and txr 2 where my life for months on the Dreamcast, i love that machine so much : D
@@juststatedtheobvious9633 poly per sec mean nothing if they are rendered in an interlaced mess

PS2 has a more cinematic look which is helped by the steady 30fps. The lighting is darker but reacts to the car. The lights reflected on the car are less but more realistic, even displaying perspective as you pass them. That small detail alone gives a huge level of realism
Both look great. One looks obviously better though. We all know which one it is.
Yes the Dreamcast
indeed. The Ps2 Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero.
The Dreamcast game doesn’t even have japanese license plates.
For game that is set in Japan, it’s a turn-off to be honest. 🙁
ALGUÉM SABE O NOME DESSA MÚSICA POR FAVOR, DESDE JÁ AGRADEÇO 7:20
I don't know whats going on with these people. I like both versions and I know Dreamcast ver. has sharper, less jaggy, vivid colors, but in terms of graphical lighting effects the PS2 is far superior and more realistic. The car is dark when in dark spots, and is bright only when passes under lights, it also reflects those lights when passing thought them. On dreamcast the car looks the same all the time with random white dots on it.
I agree!
There is traffic but it’s on the normal Quest mode!
The person playing this decided to play in Free Run mode (3:38) for whatever reason which doesn’t have cars on the road…

I always thought it was an odd decision in Zero to apply the exaggerated trailing to your rear lights but _not_ the street lamps. 🤔
I think it still has the trailing effect on the street lamps, but only during the replays, if i remember correctly.
6:00 PlayStation 2 era potente, mas não nesse caso, versão do Dreamcast é muito superior, inclusive a resolução!
Other than reflection on player car, PS2 graphics looks much better... It seems have better draw distance and more object in the distance.
True!

Dreamcast
I'm bias
PS2 is better system overall.
And it could play ps1 and ps2 games
And also it could play dvd videos

there is no traffic on ps2 ?
Not traffic but lots of fanboys 😂

Prestei a atenção nas luzes dos postes, do Ps2 parece ter uma iluminação mais fiel, mas a do Dc fica como um rastro de luz quando passa por eles, parece que da um aspecto de mais velocidade
😍The PS2 version features several graphical improvements, such as dynamic brightness, an improved soundtrack and more realistic colors that perfectly simulate driving on the roads in the land of the rising sun, without a doubt it was a true revolution for its time. 💯

@@Kev27RS Interesting observation... I also agree with you, I think that at some point car licenses became very important because they give more realism to car games.
@@Crystallums I meant license plates (number plates), not car licenses. 😉
Regarding licensed car brands, I agree though.
It gives more a sense of realism in a game generally speaking.
In this game (Tokyo Xtreme Racer) on the PS2, you can change the name of the car you buy. So if you buy the car that represents a Skyline GT-R R34, you can name it like that.
@@Kev27RS That's right... without a doubt both are great games, somewhat simple for driving but ultimately masterpieces. 😁👍
@@Crystallums True! 👍
The first Shutoku Battle/Tokyo Xtreme Racer played in my life. Many memories
Those Dreamcast version's load times are ridiculous.
Tho PS2 version didn't load any trafic
@@tomianz-1242 Given the load times, the Dreamcast version would have been wise to do the same.
Big ups to the music in the video , house music goes so well with Driving / Fighting games.
дримкаст как сериес Х а пс2 как сериес С. Если вы понимаете о чем я.И еще в версии дримки гораздо больше трафик на дороге а на соньке безлюдно и пусто
Ha ha 👍
The PS2 version is just like Wangan Midnight R since both games are made in the same engine
Why is there a music from MSR in this video? 🙂
It is because the music from MSR is actually the music from this game. It was only by accident it endet up in MSR.
What nice game, great sound track, smooth gameplay... It brings me good feelings
We knew Deamcast was gonna win against drystation 2 😂

The one thing the Dreamcast has always had over the other consoles in this generation was the crisper image quality. You can definitely see the lighting difference between the PS2 and Dreamcast but outside of that the Dreamcast looks better even if the reflections and lighting are fake.
Lighting is more realistic on ps2. The dc has reflections of non existent lights.

PS2 Better lighting and Further draw distances most likely due to the higher polygon count, dreamcast higher resolution, less jaggies better reflections maybe even slightly better textures. Seems to be playing at the strengths of both systems.
Dreamcast Wins!!! Flawless Victory!!! and Fatality
Are you kidding? In the time it takes the race to load for the Dreamcast, you could be on the PS3 realizing there are way better racing games for the system and swapping out the disc to play one of those instead.
