Hey guys! I just released an updated (and a little more advanced) video on how to make a stinger transition to take advantage of the new Track Matte feature in OBS: ruclips.net/video/wCovjpmRbTE/видео.html 👍
There is a bit of a problem with some of your steps. Your directions to add multiple colors causes the shapes to jitter between moving into the frame, pausing for a brief second and then moving back out. In between that pause moment you designated when I try to duplicate it by having the second color be slightly behind, it causes a bit of a jittery stop in between that pause section on the key frame. For some reason selectingboth key frame snad moving them slight behind each other causes a weird jitter. Not sure why it's causing it. The section of the tutorial i have issues with is from time stamp 12:40 to 13:45.
What a flawless tutorial. I'm fairly new to the streaming/ gaming community and I've been in awe over most popular streamers scene transitions. I honestly didnt think that sort of things would be in my cards since it looks insanely difficult. Almost to the point that I figured you'd have to hire an editor to accomplish these visuals. Your video just gave me so much confidence that I can achieve this. Thanks again for the flawless tutorial! I'm really looking forward to adding a stinger to my stream!
This is a fantastic tutorial! I just recently switched from streamlabs to stream elements OBS and having to make everything again and your tutorial really freed me from having to commission anyone else to do it! so flipping easy!
When I make a new composition, it's not transparent, mine is a solid color. What's weird is that yours says the BG is black but came up as transparent. EDIT: Fixed it! If you have this issue, go below the preview windows, you'll see a scroll bar that says (Full) by default, move over to the right and click the checkerboard box that says "Enable Transparent Grid". It's already transparent, it just doesn't show it as a transparent layer.
@@unsznd8943 this explaination is a little ambiguous and there is actually something called "preview window." He is actually referring to the actual area where you are working, the main visual representation of the project which is the "composition window." The checkered item is at the bottom of this, just above the timeline window. If you go to 'window' on the top of the the screen, choose 'composition ______,' which will be the name of your composition, the window will disappear, choose the same thing again and it will appear. It is THAT window.
I started here 10 months ago. I've built on my stinger transition since then, and now I've come back to grab this tutorial for a friend. Just wanted to say thank you for getting me started with all this!
This is a wonderful beginners after effects tutorial! I wish I had something like this when I was starting to make things in AE, since so many of the things discussed in this video can be applied to other things you wanna do, not just in streaming, like logos, animations, and other video graphics! Great tutorial!
I've been a designer for a long time but never fiddled with video software very much. As a new streamer, this was a super helpful, easy, and really informative way for me to get started. I already know my way around the Adobe Suite, but this just helps clinch it all together! Thanks so much man.

*Very nice!* As someone who's never used this program before it was a bit rough getting it going but after your video I've got an awesome stinger! :) I added an extra rectangle to give it a bit more color but I can't wait to use my new stinger on my streams! Thanks for the help my man! :)
Amazing tutorial, This video is perfect for the experienced as well as the first timers, if you already know how to do what he says, you just tap the arrow and boom onto the next part perfectly everytime. Well done!
Great video. Worked exactly as you explained it. Quick tip for any other newbies out there. If you try to play the Stinger in a regular video player, it's not going to look right. You HAVE to use your streaming program to get it to look right.
When I export the video the transparency is gone from the background and is replaced with a black box. I have the export to RGB + Alpha and it is transparent in the background. Any fixes?
I know this is a year later but in the video when exporting he uses the Format as WebM which will give you those options he has when rendering which is the one where it says “include alpha cahnnels” which will make the stinger transparent. I tried using another format to export like quicktime player since I am on Mac and it wouldn’t let me use RGB+Alpha to make it transparent unless I am making an animated face cam that I made in photoshop. Hope this helped you guys and the link to get the WebM format is in his description. Edit: Also if you render it straight from after effects instead of AME you should try changing your Output Module in the render cue to a format that will let you change your video output setting of channel from RGB to RGB+Alpha that way it comes out transparent after it renders
it's incredible how amazing your video's are. I feel incredible putting my own stinger together but imagine making an entire video about how to do it and you really thought about everything
Awesome tutorial! Really well put together, I have one question though I'm getting these white lined borders in AE and on my exported file and I'm not sure how to remove them. Any info would be greatly appreciated! :)
I'm very late to this, but remember when you change the fill color of the rectangle? Right next to that is another box labeled "Stroke" you should see a default settings of 2px right next to that box, change it to 0px and the white lines will be gone.
Awesome video. Quick note for anyone using Adobe CS6 this tutorial works up to the point when you try to render with webM for adobe CS6 I needed to run Adobe Media Encoder AS ADMINISTRATOR (32bit vs 64bit issues). Took me all afternoon to figure it out but this works.
Followed your guide halfway and then got a bit too confident, didn't use webm, and wound up with crackles in the audio when transitioning. Came back to the video, and did it as instructed using webm. Worked great. After a quick test recording hopping through my scenes with music on I realize how much crackles are in my lofi stream playlist lmao.
I got a fix for this, I exported as QuickTime with rgb + alpha and it works great - apparently if you use the webm codec then OBS has to decode which adds to CPU processing
