Nice comparison Alex. thanks for posting that.
...btw, how long is the extender above your ride?

      Thank you!
Do you mean the microphone stand above the ride? It's usually about 4 feet from the center of my snare drum to the capsule of the microphone, so probably about 2.5-3 feet above the ride.

    Both 3 sound great.
I personally have a 22" KC dark and a 23" K sweet. For me 22" KCD has a nice crash, but if I had to think of a con, it would be the bell (just for rock). It's not that it doesn't sound nice, but sometimes it can get a bit lost in the mix, depending on how loud and distorted the other guys are playing. It is dryer than the Sweets, too. Not as much as the KC Special Dry, wich I would describe as "dead", but definitely dryer than those. So if you play in a situation where you need a bit more "tamed" ride than those, it would be a great option too. Nevertheless it's a great ride overall, including rock.
The K sweet is for me an all-terrain ride that can deliver in any (or almost) situation. Maybe you'd prefer something brighter if you'd play some kind of brutal metal or so, but other than that, whatever you play, that thing delivers. It's very crashable but still has a nice stick definition and a full bell.
I prefer the 23" over the 21", though. It has a slighty lower pitch, wich I like, but also the bigger size adds some more mass that compensate some possible lack of volume perception when compared to brighter cymbals, especially if you use them for rock (as I do). In fact I tend to consider the 21" as a nice crash or a light ride... 😋 But if you are mostly crashing your ride, then the 21" may be the right choice since the 23" could be a bit overwhelming.
The A sweets I never tried, but if I considered to add any A ride to my collection, it would most likely be an A sweet, and probably a 23". I like to crash my rides as well, maybe not as much as you but for some accents mostly, and the taper of both sweets (As and Ks), makes them very versatiles for all purposes, with thin-crashable edges, medium bows/centers that achieve nice stick definition and clear cutting bells.

Well said! I've come to the same conclusions as well, I really liked the 22" K Custom Dark Ride, but needed a more cutting bell for what I was going for with my next ride. I've seen quite a few drummers use a 23" Sweet Ride and then have the 21" version of the crash, so they pair well together!

Overhead mic swap too huh? Sounds great bro. Glad to see you making videos again.

Thank you! Yeah, I was using my usual overhead mics on another session at the time, so went with the Rodes on this one.

I have the 23in A sweet ride? And I’m not feeling it🤷‍♂️ I would like to get the 20in Zildjian crash of doom as a “main ride”? And a crash/china/thrashy sound❤
