In this video we are showing you how to remove and replace the Headlights on a Ford Escape First Generation. It will be the same procedure for the Left Passenger Side Headlight and the Right Driver Side Headlight.
Unfortunately you will not be able to remove the headlight without removing the bumper because there are 2 hidden bolts. One bolt is on the bottom side of the headlight and 1 is on the side close to the fender. You will not need any special tools Just pliers, screwdriver to pry the clips open and a 10mm socket or wrench. If the plastic clips on the bumper cover break you can get replacements on eBay. We have purchased 20 clips for less than $5.
IF YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT BULBS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE HEADLIGHT. We have that video on our channel as well.
This procedure might work for Mercury Mariner first generation since they share the same platform.

I only undone the screws up top and the plastic Clips on the one side and you can pull the side you need to do down

Thanks for the video, very helpful. However I took a headlight out without taking the entire bumper cover. You can take the clips off on one side and pull the BC down to access the screw in the bottom of the headlight.
I would do the same
Its actually easier to do this then to pull the wheel well wall down and reach in to change the blinker... waaay easier to pull the bumper off and just yank the whole light assembly out. Thank you very much. Was literally on day two of , "how the fudge?!" To change the blinker
This was for my 2001 ford escape. Had minor front end damage as well as the bumper lights. I don't know if it was because the wiring harness is moved/ in a different position but there is no room to squeeze your hand up in there from the wheel well to get the blinker out. Had to remove the whole lense
This was very useful when I replaced my 2005 Escape Limited headlight assemblies. Some minor differences in location of bolts and fender clips.

2002 Escapes have a completely different headlight assembly. They changed the design to the one depicted in this video in 2003. It is much easier to remove/replace headlight bulbs on a 2002 Escape. You can reach the bulbs from inside the engine compartment.
Norman Lauver can't replace the blinker in the engine bay
This isn't about the blinkers. It's About the headlight bulbs. Those you can replace from the engine compartment on a 2002 Escape.
Norman Lauver I'm aware, I've changed them a few times and finally to LED. just saying you have to remove the whole light assembly to change the blinker

in Australia 01 ford escape doesn't look like this..the front bar has a square fog lights and the headlight is an old school lights..i wonder if that projector can fit it?
How about a 2017 for escape??? Planning to replace headlight projector bulb to an HID.was looking at the manual and said only 2 screws. But doesn't move a bit.i think the manual is wrong??

2001-2004 Ford Escapes have a completely different headlight assembly. This design applie to 2005-2007.
Where did you get those headlights? And would they fit a 2002 ford escape?

lifehack: NOT use right bottom screw. In the future, it will not be necessary to remove the bumper.

In order to replace the indicator bulbs, you have to completely remove the fender liner. It takes 45 minutes to do that. You cannot change the indicator bulbs from under the hood.
and THIS is why I will NEVER buy a Ford again. Morons design these trucks.
